Evidently the most famous bridge in the Lake District, the Ashness Bridge was one I came upon completely by accident. It proved great for getting a few nice shots, though! Keswick does not disappoint.

Ashness Bridge is a very small "packhorse bridge" (my tiny car could barely fit between the stone sides of the bridge). Its on the single lane paved road half way between B5289 at Derwent Water and the tiny hamlet of Watendlath in the mountains. In the background you can see Skiddaw Fell and parts of Keswick and Derwent Water.
I couldn't get the shot I, (and 25 other people), wanted due to the thick-skinned couple that had plonked themselves down and were having a picnic. I was in the middle of the stream when I took this when I really wanted to be in the, (occupied), spot that would let me shoot through the middle of the bridge head on.

When you arrive at the Shady Grove Transfer Station and Processing Facility, place your ash into the specially-designated drums for disposal.

Ash was on his way.. somewhere at the end of the day. Cans on and shades on I thought that I would be told without even having a chance to explain myself.
But one headphone came off. I explained that I wanted someone to seem oblivious to the street traffic at knock-off time. "Yeah, sure". Ash helped me out for a good four pedestrian signal cycles. Cheers, Ash.

The Most Rev. Joseph R. Cistone, Bishop of Saginaw, celebrated Ash Wednesday Mass at the Cathedral of Mary of the Assumption in Saginaw on Feb. 18. To mark the beginning of the penitential season of Lent, Catholics receive ashes on their foreheads as a sign of repentance and mortality. The ashes come from blessed palms that were distributed last year on Palm Sunday and later burned.
The Church emphasizes the penitential nature of Lent and Catholics who are between the ages of 18 and 59 are called to fast on Ash Wednesday and Good Friday, meaning they should eat only one full meal and two smaller meals without eating between meals. Also, all who are 14 and older are called to abstain from eating beef, pork, poultry and food made from animal fat on those days and all Fridays during Lent.

This was a really fun shoot. On Maddy's suggestion we tried to work a bit of a story line into the gallery, which led to all sorts of interesting shots. Looking at the final gallery I wish we had built out the story a little more, but for a first attempt at the concept I'm really happy with it.
(Note: the last 5 photos of the set are just good shots that didn't really fit into the story progression).
This was also the first set of images I've edited on my new monitor. For the last year or so I've been editing on very low quality displays, which is a bit like trying to paint while wearing sunglasses. Though, now that I'm editing on an accurate display with great contrast, I need to preview my photos on crappy displays to make sure the photos still look good to the average viewer XD
