This photo used (without permission, but oh hell whatever) on Gizmodo: How Data Can Improve Your Life, a post on 30 April 2010.

For the record, I am not now, now have I ever been "the face of Gizmodo".

But if I do now need a Gizmodonom-de-plume, I'm going with Felonious Monk.

This is a QR Code (trademark Denso) of an ASCII image of the Japanese kanji 色々,meaning "various." Decoded, the results should be some text with proper spacing that look something similar to the Japanese text mentioned above.

Since the early 90s, the Internet has been my playground, school, and secret lover. Once upon a time, this was my .sig.

Sometimes I really miss those days.

An earlier example of ASCII art style letters

With only three lines of text and a limited character set this was the best I could manage. I did get the beard, my nose and the bags under my eyes, though - all my best features :-)

Les enfants du paradis

Sont les enfants sur terre

Alignés comme radis

Contre leur mère

Les enfants du paradis

Sont les enfants sur terre

Aux paupières arrondies

A l'iris délétère

Matrice tu m'as fait

Dans son lit défait

Matrice tu m'as fait

Mal... le mal est fait

Matrice

Matrice tu m'as fait

Dans un moule parfait

Matrice tu m'as fait

Mal... le mal est fait

Matrice

Matrice tout compte fait

Tu sais le monde est tout fait

Plus tu vas vers l'infini

Plus tu sais que c'est fini

Matrice tu m'as fait

Mal... le mal est fait

Plus tu vas vers l'infini

Plus tu sais que c'est fini

Matrice...

Matrice...

Matrice...

Matrice tu m'as...

The original ASCII Big Brother version is here

It was a bright cold day in April, and the clocks were striking thirteen. Winston Smith, his chin nuzzled into his breast in an effort to escape the vile wind, slipped quickly through the glass doors of Victory Mansions, though not quickly enough to prevent a swirl of gritty dust from entering along with him.

An ad with "ASCII art style" big letters in what might be the earliest version of the form thus far!
