As you can see, I took down Sasha's hairstyle then put it up again but her hair is so frizzy!! I also just found out my phone takes larger images than my sisters phone, and the quality is a little better. It's not amazing but its something! Also my phone is really old so there is no flash and I have to use my own lighting, and I am crap at that. But soon I am getting a professional camera!!!! (so excited!!) But until then I will be posting these kinds of pictures <3

As Jake Raines and Mac McCloud transport the Pharaoh's sarcophagus, an ancient menace reawakens ...

I went out to the Haw River this morning with the intention of photographing birds, but I was greeted by a foggy river. I saw a heron in the fog, so I became more stubborn than usual and kept my telephoto lens on my camera. This made me miss some good photo ops of a foggy river, and by the time I came to my senses and changed to a wide angle lens, the fog was mostly gone. Luckily I still go this shot as the sun was coming to tree top levels to my left, and the fog was lifting away.

And a couple of minutes after this shot I put my telephoto lens back on, and I got a really out of focus picture of what I believe to be a juvenile bald eagle carrying away a fish. I kept trying to get closer to the eagle, but he kept a very safe distance from me, and eventually went to the other side of the river. Oh well. Maybe next time..........

As praias desertas continuam

Esperando por nós dois

A este encontro eu não devo faltar

O mar que brinca na areia

Está sempre a chamar

Agora eu sei que não posso faltar

O vento que venta lá fora

O mato onde não vai ninguém

Tudo me diz

Não podes mais fingir

Porque tudo na vida há de ser sempre assim

Se eu gosto de você

E você gosta de mim

For a fun interlude, this is a 2nd-take image based off of one of my popular pics posted here on flickr in the last few years. This particular image was done with the help of the FaceApp application, where I took a photo of the original "2019-02-20 video-snap14" pic I've posted here, then just applied a very modest filter. This was done to help for example with the poor lighting or graininess in the original, or to enhance the makeup just a tad -- and of course to have some fun. What do you think? How do I look? :-)

Tão cúmplices, as palavras.

As much as I love shooting film, I suppose one of the frustrations is waiting for film to come back from the developers. After a couple fubars with local stores developing my color work, I have been using Photoworks SF. Prior to that I had been using Bay Photo's excellent services but their film developing went the way of the dodo earlier this year.

So, while I wait for the 5 or so rolls of film I have coming, it's archive digging time :) That and I really need to find the charger for my Canon which has been misplaced since we moved house 2 months ago!

As I saw Mervin do a double take , looked back over my shoulder hed stopped , I smiled , oh yes of all the boys who teased me at school he was the worst , but I sensed it was just bravado , in front of his mates . I’ll never forget the day we both missed the bus , “Let’s walk” he said , so we did he was so nice , I felt a vibe and a tingle just looking him in the eyes , he went all coy , when we reached my house we chatted , we never really spoken before , we stared into each others eyes , I so wanted a kiss , for one surreal moment , I feel sure , he wanted a kiss but we were both too shy ! But then he blushed and said it was late and I stood and watched him walk away , I had such a crush on him , now he’s turned around , he’s smiling , heading back to me ! This is my moment ,I won’t be too shy this time ! I’ll get so much more than a kiss !

All over the capital, the Arirang adverts (« Grand mass gymnastic and artistic performance », « Welcome to Pyongyang » and so on) warn the profane…Between August and October, takes place one of the biggest and most impressive performances in the world. The tone is set : even the Beijing Olympics ceremony can’t compete with the mass games organized by the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK). The show is held several times a week and welcomes tourists from all over the World, including the US, in one of the most isolated and despised country on earth. The well-called « mass games » are designed to emphasize group dynamics rather than individual performances as the supreme emblem of communism. Prepared by hundred of thousands performers all along the year, after their classes for the youngest of them, they are entirely dedicated to the NK’s leader Kim Jong Il and his deceased father Kim Il Sung, considered as the « Eternal president » and « sun of the 21st century »…

In the surroundings of Pyongyang's May Day giant Stadium, two girls are running to perform for the Arirang show. They are already dressed in their gymnastic outfits, as well as some 100,000 others who participate to the performance. They all come to honour their self-proclaimed « dear leader » Kim Jong Il, after a very hard and gruelling training, since their earliest age. Yet, it has been many years that Kim Jong Il has not shown up, formally for business reasons. But officials now admit the western medias’ assertions of illness. Anyways, Kim Jong Il or not, the mass games are held every year in Pyongyang, as a means for the regime to show to the entire world the country’s strength and good shape. To reach this sole purpose, not less than 100,000 people are involved in a choreographed show of simultaneous dancing and gymnastics. Many symbols are displayed by thousands of trained athlets, whether they are adults or even children. Hand over their heart, the young pupils sing in chorus "We are the happiest children in the world", one of the famous propaganda songs in North Korea. Many dancers make movements either with ribbons or colourful flowers named « kimjonglias » after the leader Kim Jong Il. All along the show, a live band plays a ceremonious music.

On the background, some 20,000 young koreans sit on the terraces, facing the spectators. They flip coloured cards at a high speed to form a fresco of animated and detailed images, changing from one to another. Each time they turn the page to create a new giant picture, they cry out. It creates a awe-inspiring atmosphere, as the shout is mixed with the noise of thousands of pages turned at the same moment. The figures are stunning : to compose these images, 2000 children are needed to make only one soldier, 20,000 for a north korean flag. Hiding a much more grim reality, the panels represent Pyongyang enlightened by night, wheat fields ready for harvest, scientists at work, atoms as symbols of the nuclear bomb and others for the reunification of two Koreas. One of the North Korea’s myths (history according to them) is recounted by the means of a huge image made by thousands of children. It represents the two pistols reportedly used by Kim Il Sung, when he founded the Anti-Japanese People’s Guerrilla Army in 1932. When the pistols appear, the audience applauses loudly. Among them, many soldiers attend the show as the ultimate award after years of good and faithful service. The thousands and thousands of boys and girls involved create a giant mass movement in the stadium which leaves the public stunned. These talented performers are used to that kind of performance: in North Korea they have to dance, sing, jump and spin around as many times as there are celebrations, always in praise of their leaders. There are mainly two sorts of shows. The first one is the classical artistic show, named "Arirang" after the famous korean folk song (whose story sometimes changes, but most often recounts the legend of a disappointed woman who hopes that her lover will return to her –metaphor of the break-up with South Korea). The second one is a more political show, which was untitled in 2008 "Prosper our country" and intended to show the country’s greatest achievements and its struggle against the foreign oppressors.

The show continues in the same way for one hour. Thereafter, the thousands of people present vanish in the dark and silent streets of Pyongyang, which contrast with the flood of lights and music in the stadium. Within the space of a few hours, it gives us a a strange feeling, between the real and unreal, of another universe both terrifying and fantastic.

Is feudalism, marketing itself as democracy, the underlying operating system for modern civilization’s social, economic and political systems? This is the hypothesis of those who describe current systems of governance, militarism and global economics as a mutated form of feudalism.

If such assumption were true, it would help to explain why, for over 2,000 years, Western civilizations have perpetuated certain distinct characteristics — such as class systems, extreme wealth inequality, power elites, racism, militarism, prison systems and human trafficking.

It would help to explain why the guiding social systems and cultural programing of modern civilizations appear to be rooted in feudalism — focused on the concentration of power and wealth — and appear not to have changed significantly over time. Feudalism has been continuously “repackaged” and “updated” over time, transforming itself into imperialism, colonialism, industrialism and, most recently, into corporate capitalism and globalization.

Over the past few thousand years, human history has been one long story of empire building, predatory colonialism and military conquest. Even now, the majority of people on our planet are either extremely poor or in debt, while the wealthiest few have absolute control over the way those people live.

Our educational systems use standardized tests to sort, rank and classify children, while indoctrinating them with an incomplete understanding of history and manufacturing obedience. Test scores determine society’s winners and losers, and a child’s future social status will depend on their willingness to follow orders and do as instructed.

Our political systems are set up by those with the greatest wealth, allowing powerful individuals and corporations to make laws and wage wars, occupying offices far away from most “common people”, and ruling over the rest of us.

Our modern military campaigns sent young men off like pawns on chess boards to kill people in faraway countries that have resources our corporations want to control. Expensive weapons systems cost trillions of dollars, while back home there is little money left for the education or health care of our “peasant” classes.

Our prison systems are set up so as to see that poor people who violate laws are locked up in cages. In the United States, more African Americans are currently incarcerated than were forced into slavery 200 years ago.

All around us, we can see the old feudal systems transformed into modern versions of the same archaic patterns, resulting in the same social problems and dysfunctions.

It’s a system kept in place by propaganda that is fed to the masses by the media and schools, telling us that our world is based on “progress,” that we are more advanced and “developed” than primitive tribal cultures of the past. When in truth the feudal paradigm of civilization — focused on the social dominance of others and the acquisition of wealth by a small power elite — is in many ways barbaric, authoritarian and unsustainable.

Crime, war, racism, slavery, addiction, human trafficking, environmental destruction and extreme poverty are all symptoms of an underlying systemic imbalance, of a world where predatory and feudalist systems of social organization still dominate our lives.

Such criticism and understanding is not new. Jesus saw the evils of this system, and spoke out against it. Buddha refused to participate in his father’s kingdom, walking off and choosing to live in poverty instead. From Lao Tsu to Gandhi to Martin Luther King, there have been a chorus of voices that have spoken out across the ages. Albert Einstein wrote about this problem over 60 years ago, describing how modern political, economic and media systems were perpetuating oligarchy and manipulating democratic systems.

As we moved into the modern industrial age, large peaceful social movements have risen up to challenge the system – from the abolitionists and women suffragettes to the civil rights movement, anti-war protests, ecology movement and Occupy Wall Street. The old feudal ways of doing things has created endless misery, destroying Nature’s fragile ecosystems and leading the human race to ruin.

The time has come for our species to grow wiser, evolve our thinking and change the way we live upon this planet.

I've been engaging in some short, private crossdressing opportunities at home recently, after acquiring and trying out some new clothes, shoes, and accessories. This is the 296th pic posted from this recent CD activity, and taken just in January.

As usual, I really enjoy color-coordinating attractive/sexy/cute outfits, and this one features: an Anermy rose gold metallic see-through-knit midi dress (from China via Amazon) over a Red Hot by Spanx pink lacy full-slip (from Kohl's); a Steve Madden rose gold waist belt (from Macy's); Liliana rose gold ultra-high-heel strappy sandals (from Nordstrom Rack); gold metallic fishnet stockings; a Jennifer Lopez rose gold metallic mini crossbody handbag (from Kohl's); a couple rose gold necklaces (including an elegant chandelier-style choker from Aldo); and rose gold earrings, bracelets, and rings.

More about this and other new 2017 pics was written up recently in a descriptive Update provided in my profile or "About" page here on Flickr. It details some choices made for these 2017 pics.

Let me know your thoughts... :-)

P.S. As far as the picture setting here, this is on the deck of our home. I'm using the glass patio door as a mirror (fuzziness related to glass not cleaned in some time), aided with a black sheet hung right inside the door, although some of the wrinkles in the sheet may be detected in the image here.

It was close to midday, as I wandered around Clarks Village in Street, Somerset. I was looking for a stranger to photograph. I’d found a spot to make portraits; there was a bench under a tree; a nice shaded spot. Unfortunately hardly anyone chose to walk that way. For this reason I chose to find someone, thinking that I might bring them to the spot.

As I walked around, I spotted a young woman with a skeleton top and yellow tights. She was in deep conversation with a young man. I did not want to interrupt. He was closer to the shop and she was facing toward him, so I could not see her face as I walked by a couple times.

I decided to walk on and wait a few shops away. If she was to come my way, then I would take the opportunity and ask if she would be in my project. The pair continued to talk, so I walked around a bit more. The next time I looked they had gone :-(

To my delight, a few minutes later, I spotted the young lady again, in the distance. She was headed out of the outlet shopping centre. I was able to see which direction she took and followed, slowly gaining on her. As she headed out of town, I wondered whether to continue; feeling a little stalkery. I had still not seen her face but figured that she would be interesting, just from the style of her outfit.

I caught up with Kelly outside of Clarks HQ. “Excuse me..” I said, as I drew beside her. I don’t think she heard me at first. She removed her earphones, I repeated “Excuse me... would it be OK to take your photo”. She agreed straight away, even apologising for not noticing me at first. “I was listening to music” she said and she pointed to her phone.

I explained that I was doing a project to photograph strangers and said “you have to be at least 18 years old”. She confirmed that she met my criteria, telling me her age. I offered my hand, introducing myself. Next, I checked her name and asked if it would be alright to take the photo on the small green opposite.

We sat down on some grass, under a tree. I asked what had brought Kelly to Street today. She works for Greggs and had been meeting with her boss to talk about things in the shop, where she works as assistant manager. Kelly is responsible for staff in the Wells branch, of the bakery chain store.

I asked Kelly what she did when she was not working in Greggs. She told me that she liked gore and cosplay. She makes her own outfits from scratch and updates those that she buys. Kelly pointed to her face and said that there might be some dye there, from fake blood, that was hard to remove.

Kelly will be going to Comic Con at Olympia in London, next month. She often dresses as Harley Quinn and has a huge hammer.. When she has it at conventions, people ask to be hit with it. Even though the head is made from polystyrene, it is still pretty heavy and Kelly would not be surprised if it hurt. If you are interested in Kelly’s Cosplay then you can follow her instagram at gothams_littlepsycho_x

We talked a bit about TV series and film. Aside from textiles, Kelly also does some 2D art, she studied art at college and university.

When we had finished with the portraits, we exchanged words of thanks. Kelly told me that I had provided a welcome break from thinking about sales targets and stocking levels. She had enjoyed the diversion.

Thank you Kelly for being part of my project. It was great to meet you. Best wishes for your work and outside activities.
