As the Yaberoo Budjara Heritage Trail enters the Yanchep National Park bicycle riders have one more walker-friendly barrier to negotiate. Oh down the track is another access option but you have to negotiate a gate to come that way.

From here into the park’s recreation area is all good riding which is nice.

Built in the middle of the 4th Century AD as a hunting lodge by a Roman patrician (it is not known for sure who the owner was) the Villa is home to some of the best preserved and extensive examples of Roman mosaics spread over around 3500m2.

These extraordinarily vivid mosaics, probably produced by North African artisans, deal with numerous subjects, ranging from Homeric escapades and mythological scenes to portrayals of daily life, including the famous tableau of girls exercising in their “bikinis”.

Had a little chat with my co worker last Friday she asked if I had spoken to Jess the girl who came out the other day. I said I had and that she was doing OK. we carried on chatting and my co worker said she can't understand why people don't just let us live life how we want to. I explained a few reasons and got on to how much it changes us as people. I said to her that she might have noticed how I have changed since being more comfortable being me. she responded in a totally unexpected way by saying. I don't see you has M anymore I see you as Helen.

Well I could have just hugged her there and then. I did tell her that not like we don't hug in our office because we do ut we normally have reason like her being upset or such like. It was so nice for her to say that and she isn't the first to do so.

Things are changing in my world once again.

As each new family party arrived they were greeted by loud joyful whooping from previous arrivals -it almost seemed like they were being questioned about the latest news from Iceland!

Framed by a friend.

Continuing my theme of posting my early cross-dressing efforts between the period of November 2000 and December 2003 I am posting another picture from my first few efforts at learning how to cross-dress as a woman.

Unlike in my younger years by the time I emerged from the closet and finally gave in to my desire to dress as a woman the Internet had arrived. I naturally began to use it for research about my transvestism as I still had big issues with my wanting to dress as a female back then.

In the course of my research I came across pictures of transvestites that made my jaw drop and I recall being awestruck. How could they have cleavage? How could they have a flat genital area? How could they have such female looking eyebrows? I was amazed by a great many of the transformations I saw. Then, something I was disturbed by, I knew these women were really men but I found them attractive! I eventually came to realise this was testament to their skills in creating a female appearance. Despite knowing they were men they did such a fantastic job of looking female I could only see them as women. As much as it was disturbing for me as an heterosexual male it was also incredibly inspiring. My ambitions to emulate their achievements gathered momentum.

I soon learned on the Internet the techniques for the cleavage and flat genitals and realised if one wanted a female eyebrow shape then the reality was you had to commit yourself to actually plucking them into a thinner more shaped brow. This is something one cannot hide so initially I was nervous and only did token amounts of plucking and shaping. These days I prefer a more defined shaped eyebrow and now have enough confidence to keep my eyebrows regularly plucked.

When I discovered that if one shaved their chest and used adhesive tape and shades of blusher they could create cleavage I was so excited I just gad to try it for myself. I did find it very uncomfortable and over a period of time it was physically painful but the illusion of having cleavage made me giddy with excitement. Once I wore a bra, fitted my breast forms and combined that with the taped up chest and make-up shading I was totally thrilled with the result.

This photo, in fact it is actually a still frame from a DV video camera taken in December 2000 as I did not have a stills camera back then and digital cameras were very new to the market in that period. I would video myself and capture a still frame on my computer using a computer card I had bought precisely for this purpose. The images are very low resolution as a result but at the time it gave me the privacy I needed to get stills of myself cross-dressed. I needed to chart my progress and see how I was doing with my explorations into transvestism.

I can see I was very inexperienced as the cleavage is a not too subtly shaded in the picture and I find my choice of wig back then well…interesting…but this was quite a powerful moment for me on an emotional level. I admit I was terrified and elated at the same time but after two decades of suppression dressing up and taking this picture was quite a moment!

I think it fair to say I was thrilled with how I felt that evening, never as a man had imagined I would actually wear make-up, put on lots of mascara and lipstick, a wig, have cleavage, the sensation of breasts, a flat female looking genital area, shaved chest and legs, wear a skirt and high heels and generally lose myself in feeling girlie…it was wonderful, absolutely an amazing moment in my life to do this. Why oh why had I suppressed it for so long? All those wasted years!

I have decided to produce a video documentary this year about my being a transvestite, the time has arrived where I need to move my cross-dressing to a new level and have new experiences. For fifteen years I have had little confidence or belief in my abilities to look like a woman. Posting on Flickr and reading the comments has had an effect upon me plus the personal support and encouragement from certain wonderful ladies. I now owe the current Helene to these ladies and to all of you who have written such kind and complimentary words about my efforts to look like a woman.

I genuinely felt I failed in my efforts and looked hopeless but I am now having pause for thought about this. So many kind people tell me I can look like a woman that I realise the thing that is holding me back is me, I am my own stumbling block.

Something is changing within me and it fills me with great excitement for the future. I feel I now need to actually set free Helene and when I dress as her I need to be her. Part of me desires to be a woman, I am a transvestite but I do have an element of the transsexual that adds to my desire to pass as a female. I think rather than blanking things I should utilise them to enable me to more complete as a person. This means freeing Helene now and again but making the experience more fulfilling rather than being frightened in private yet emotionally delighted I have become a (temporary) woman. The time to step onto a new path is here.

Making a video documentary is something I have wanted to do for several years now but of course just sitting in a room or shooting pointless shots, like my driving video, is all a bit dull and aimless. I have a story of my own and how it has influenced and shaped my adult life and I know how elated I feel as Helene. There are issues that troubled me I have got over and others that still persist. I now want to open up about this and make a record of it. Making the video will be a rewarding experience for me though I suspect I am being highly self indulgent and it is probably a vanity project.

It would be fantastic to meet up with other transvestites on the video and hear their own experiences and motivations, we are after all quite a diverse social group and yet most of us have to keep our gentle desire a secret in our lives. At times I could weep.

Thank you to you all you have changed my self perception, my belief and encouraged new ambitions for my female alter-ego. I feel enthused and more convinced about my appearance. You are all lovely people.

Helene x

Why do I love becoming a woman? A question I often ask myself as well as hearing from others who know of my liking to take ion a female persona. Do I regret being a man that desires to dress as a woman? Where is it all going to end up?

Questions, questions…

I accept we all have our own motivations and aspirations for expressing our desire to dress as women and which can also be a desire to inhabit a female persona. I have my personal feelings, emotional needs and ambitions for my female alter-ego which are not necessarily a reflection of how others feel about their own situation. For me, I have a need to actually pass as a woman and be perceived as being female when I cross-dress. I will admit to frustration over the years through a combination of my lack of skills in the art of male to female transformation, limits imposed by my physicality (being male) and I’m sure well meant advice telling me to forget passing and just enjoy it. To forget passing undermines everything that motivates my female side. When I become Helene I want to be a woman not simply a man dressed up. I dream of having a feminine appearance and emotionally being female rather than male. If this all sounds like serious transexual characteristics and an urgent need to start transition then let me say with utter certainty that is not what I want.

I don’t buy into the simplistic view that if you have a powerful desire to be a woman then the only answer is to transition. Nothing is that straightforward that you can boil it down to a one or the other answer. There exists a huge area of crossover. I genuinely like my male life and like being me. The idea of killing off my male self and only existing as a woman is not something I want. If I were to indulge in being simplistic, I could say I want it all, to be both a man and a woman. However, I know, especially now I am sixty years of age, how my feelings operate in terms of my transgender feelings. I can see now I have real intense moments of wanting to be female and this are all consuming when they occur. I do understand though, that these intense desires being too diminish and I am happy to return to being a man again. I would say that is reasonably creative cut as to why transitioning would not be a happy course of action for me.

I doubt I am alone in having these intense moments of wanting to be female forever but knowing they will at some point ease off. I will admit that it is these feelings that drive me to want to actually look convincingly female and to behave as a female both physically and emotionally when I transform myself from a man into a woman. It’s a fundamental part of my being and needs to be set free now and again.

In recent months my focus and aspirations for my female self has shifted towards passing myself off in a believable way as being a real woman. I find myself observing real women more and more and noting their choices in clothing, footwear and make-up. I also observe what men find attractive in women they encounter My goal is to be accomplished enough to be perceived as being a female and I too want to behave and respond as a female with any social interactions be that shopping, a polite hell, having a coffee in a cafe, visiting a gallery, having a meal and even creating some intrigue and desire with men. In short my aim for the few hours I take on my female persona I want o be able to cease being a man in every way and exist as a female.

Having outlined my feelings and aspirations does that answer any of the questions I began this narrative with? I think it partly addresses them. I do have many regrets about being a man that dresses as a woman. I kind of regret I never accepted this part of myself throughout my life. It caused me a lot of angst and made me a shy not very sociable person. I think I was far more transexual as a teenager and young man than I am now. Once I settled into a career I liked and a relationship that means more to me than my own inner desires and then had a family, everything took on a different level of contentment and also responsibility. My wife and family far outweigh my lifelong desire to become female, I would hate to cause any disruption to that. I do regret my cowardice as a young person not to act on my inner feelings in regard to desiring to be female. I chose the easy option of denial and suppression. Inevitably, I failed in that attempt at self control and had to come out as being transgender at the age of forty one. I do have regrets that certain people I came out to have used it against me, I misjudged their trust. I have regrets I don’t have breasts, a female body and look female, I dream of being feminine. Im not feminine though so this does distress me somewhat and I regret the lack of femininity.

Despite the regrets, they are not enough to crush me as I do enjoy my life, it’s an aspect I can handle, I know it is down to my own inaction that these regrets exist. I try to not let them intrude as I do enjoy my rare moments as a woman and find each opportunity incredibly rewarding and fulfilling.

Recently I was asked by a female friend where all of this was going to end up? It really made me think and I wanted to answer as honestly as I could. At the moment I think in the next few years I will start to spend time out and about as a woman not a man. This is a reflection of where I am going emotionally and also I do have personal ambitions in regard to the challenge of existing as a (part-time) woman. I want to do it well and never be considered as a man when I head out as a woman. I therefore see an increase in this kind of activity and a change in my wardrobe, hair and make-up to reflect this. I did consider what would occur if I were single. I don’t want to be single but it was a hypothetical scenario I felt I should muse over. I believe I would likely spend a lot more time as my female self if I were single but I’m pretty certain I would not transition. I still like my male self so I see such a scenario as being a less inhibited opportunity to fully express myself more freely.

It has taken me pretty much fifty years to accept myself and I don’t feel I’m still quite there yet, there is a lot more self acceptance I need to embrace. I think it’s my fear of damaging my relationship with my wife and family, who all know I have a female alter-ego, that prevents me from pushing things further. Al I can say is I do feel a lot more at ease with my inner female self than I did in past decades.

as i looked at this pic, it appeared as if there was a light in the base of the lily and it just reminded me that outer beauty is nice but it is what is inside that counts!!

at the farmers markets. Happy Fence Friday

Tomorrow is national get outside day guys! Lets celebrate with a sunrise or a hike, spending some time out in nature. You could give me all the money in the world and my favourite thing would still be just being out in nature watching the sun rise.

Here's a shot from this morning at Corfe Castle. Seeing some epic shots in the mist during the week, I just had to get myself over there. No mist sadly, but still some lovely cloud and interesting light. I had to desaturate this one as it just didn't look right on the screen! A fantastic morning at my favourite castle ruins.

Happy Sunday!

As we left Fagaras Fortress, we caught up with this groom and bride party. Their pictures were taken inside the castle and they were probably on their way to the reception.

"Built in 1310 on the site of a former 12th century wooden fortress (burned by the Tartars in 1241), Fagaras was enlarged between the 15th and 17th centuries and was considered one of the strongest fortifications in Transylvania. The fortress was surrounded by a deep moat which, in times of war or social unrest, could easily be filled with water from a nearby mountain brook. A bridge over the moat provided the only access point. The fortress boasts three floors and five towers." (www.romaniatourism.com/castles-fortresses.html#fagaras)

During the 1950s it was a prison for opponents and dissidents. After the fall of the Communist State in 1989, the castle has been restored and is currently used as a museum, the Fagaras County Museum, displaying Roman artifacts, a collection of medieval weapons and traditional folk crafts. The museum also hosts a beautiful collection of icons painted on glass.

As seen at the travelling fair near Alexandra Palace, north London.

As seen in Queens Gardens in Hull City Centre,

When a white painted bike appears somewhere, it was put there as a memento to an accident in which a cyclist was killed. It makes me very sad every time I pass by such a place.

I must say however that if we really want to reduce the number of deadly accidents with cyclists, then it is not helpful to point fingers only at car and lorry drivers while ignoring the cavalier attitude many cyclists display concerning safety. Bike lanes should be used, helmets should be worn, lights should be used at the front and the rear, bicycles should be maintained, easily visible clothing should be worn rather than black spandex, and there should be general understanding that traffic rules are there for a reason.

Every victim of a traffic accident is one too many, and things must change. We can't just go on with the old mindset and hope that somehow things will get better even if we don't, because that is not going to happen.
