My husband and I spent two hours setting up our dolls for this photo. Some how a few dolls escaped, they’re on my work bench being painted, or hanging out on my desk where they keep me company while I work. Yet here is my collection, the physical representation of all the hard work I put into this hobby in the last seven years. I am proud of every single one of them. They have inspired me in so many ways, from photography, painting, sewing, and set building, to going out and making new friends. What is two hours to set up my dolls in the face of the months and sometimes years it takes artists to design and build a doll?
It only takes those who choose to buy recast dolls a few seconds to undermine everything BJDs are about. Seconds to tear away months and years of artists’ work after they’ve poured their heart and soul into a doll. Seconds to break the hearts of countless collectors who feel helpless when faced with such blatant and remorseless plagiarism.
Lately it has felt really lonely in this hobby. We cling breathlessly to the few people we know we can trust while the seedy and dark underbelly swirls around us. Lately I’ve seen previously intimate friendships turn dark when once trusted friends began undermining the people who speak up for what is right, because for reasons I cannot begin to fathom, people feel the need to defend recasting and people who steal.
Going to meetups has never been more difficult, when where we used to open up our homes and our hearts to new people with open arms, we now exercise caution. We remain guarded lest we open our hearts to someone who would steal from our beloved artists, or attempt to soil our names in their efforts to defend those that do steal. It has been devastating and heartbreaking. Anonymous hate has only massaged more discord and distrust into the hobby. Yet, against all odds I’ve seen artists and collectors prevail. I’ve seen them stand up against this biting wind and hold fast for authenticity. Thank you, thank you artists and artist supporters, thank you for not giving up.
What is this new normal? When did the assumptions and standards change? When did people become afraid to speak up and stand behind what they have to say with their names? When doll owners started tagging their BJDs as legit because recast owners have shit over every corner of the internet. I never imagined a time when every doll and owner is questioned for legitimacy because all trust is gone thanks to those who buy recasts, yet here we are. I refuse to allow it. Together we can refuse to allow it. Today we’ve proven that there are more of us than it seems, and that we can stand up together as one voice and speak out against recasting.
Today I invite everyone that owns recasts to put them down and join us for what is right. You may claim that they are a part of you, but they symbolize everything that is wrong in this hobby and they must be destroyed. Sometimes you need to let go of the bad things in your past to move forward and grow. We’ve all done things in the past we’ve regretted, there is nothing wrong with separating yourselves from those things and growing. I have read every reason and excuse in the book for buying recasts, but always it boils down to selfishness and entitlement. Anybody that can afford to purchase a recast can afford legit. Own up to what is right. Admitting mistakes and moving on shows growth and maturity, and is the first step to re-earning trust and respect. The harm that has been done cannot be undone, but you can help slow the trend. Quit fostering this environment of open theft and spewing hate.
Recast owners, I offer you a thread of amnesty. Destroy your recasts so they cannot reenter circulation, post the evidence, buy legit, and stand with us for the artists. To anybody that has been considering buying recast, I implore you to reconsider.
Artist : Julius Klinger (1876 – 1942) was an Austrian Painter, draftsman, illustrator, commercial graphic artist, typographer and writer. Klinger studied at the Technologisches Gewerbemuseum.In 1897 he relocated to Berlin, where he worked extensively as a commercial graphic artist until 1915. Being of Jewish descent, he suffered from national socialist harassment. According to Viennese police records, he was registered as moved to Minsk in June 2, 1942, i.e. deported. Presumably, he was killed the same year.

There was an art exhibition/market today in Maidenhead ...a really good crowd of people and a lovely creative buzz (perfect weather too for once!).
This was just a candid portrait of one of the exhibitors, I thought there was something interesting about her.
Coin art meets $2 bill art. During the Blue Water Festival, found another $2 bill lover who agreed to a two-dollar bill portrait. She had to pull out her other saved $2 bills to show me. Yes, in her other hand is the tool -ma saw - she uses to carve coins to your order

The European Space Agency (ESA) is building Spacelab, a habitable laboratory that will be carried in the Space Shuttle orbiter for earth-orbital periods up to 30 days. Spacelab will be used to conduct experiments in the physical sciences, health sciences, and manufacturing processes.

'Tom Poes en De Reuzenvogel' (Tom Puss and the Giant Bird) (in book editions shortened to 'The Giant Bird') is a story from the Bommelsaga, written and drawn by Marten Toonder. The story first appeared on 20 November 1941 in De Telegraaf and ran until 21 December of that year. The theme of the story is food robbery. Although Toonder was not allowed to deal with topical issues, in the period 1941-1944 he continued to walk along the edge of a ban.
In 1931, Marten Toonder (1912-2005) went to Buenos Aires with his father, after his final exams. There he got acquainted with the work of the well-known Argentine artist and editor Dante Quinterno, who ran a studio producing comics. Quinterno's creations impressed him to such a degree that he decided to become an artist himself. In 1938 a comic of his first appeared in a Swedish newspaper. His most famous comic series was the Tom Puss (Tom Poes in Dutch) and Oliver B. Bumble (Olivier B. Bommel in Dutch) series that appeared in De Telegraaf, a Dutch newspaper, from 1941–1986. The comic series has a very characteristic format. Every day there were three drawings and an accompanying text (about a book-page long). 177 Bommel stories have been published as a comic book novel, of which selections were later re-released in book form several times. They are usually referred to by the term "Bommelsaga" or "daily newspaper strips". It started out as a children's cartoon, but gradually became more relevant to adults. Nowadays his texts are considered literature by some critics, and Toonder received several literary prizes for them. He invented many new words and expressions and some of those are now widely used in the Dutch language.
In 1942, Marten Toonder founded a film studio together with film producer Joop Geesink. Toonder was mainly concerned with cartoons and Geesink was more into puppet films. In 1943, Toonder founded Toonder Studio's, a company that was an offshoot of Toonder-Geesink production. The company initially focused on the release of comics, but later moved into advertising and animation films as well. A number of the Tom Poes and Olivier B. Bommel stories have been released in the cinema as animation films, but these were not very successful. The first one was the Dutch-German production, Tom Puss. Das Geheimnis der Grotte/Tom Poes en het geheim van de grot (Maarten Toonder, 1942-1944). The animation films did have the fun but lacked the subtler humour that the stories convey. An exception may be the animated feature Als je begrijpt wat ik bedoel/If you understand what I mean (Harrie Geelen, Bjørn Frank Jensen, Bert Kroon, 1983) after the collection of stories of the same name. This one received a compliment from Walt Disney and Warner Bros. However, Toonder himself was not entirely happy with the film.

This is a life size bronze statue that I photographed in Smithfield, VA. It is Jesus the master artist and creator. I look at nature as a painting of His works. The many values, hues, and composition that He so graciously put together for are viewing pleasure and for the vast resources He provided for our well being. I am a steward of His creation.

Posting of a detail fragment of a work of art will take place sometime after 8:00 PM EST, five days a week (Sunday; Monday; Tuesday; Wednesday; Thursday. There are no IDs on Friday or Saturday)
Correct answers are allotted points in the following manner:
First correct respondent receives 6 points
Second: 5 points
third: 4 points
fourth: 3 points
fifth: 2 points
Each respondent after that receives 1 point, whether the artist named is correct or not.. 2 points will be awarded if there were not 5 awards.
Incorrect responses will be awarded at least one point (there is no penalty for guessing...actually encouraged).
The opportunity to accrue points can only happen within a maximum of 24 hours. Once the full photograph of the work of Art is elevated and the artist identified, no additional scoring (for that work can occur). (In other words, regardless of pleas, points will not be awarded for a comment/ID made days after the posting) ( Also, 15 guesses does not generate 15 points...only 1 point )
A summary of scores for the top five positions will be published each Sunday, at the beginning of each set of five photographs.
Caveats / Understanding:
Postings may be held up due to circumstances beyond my control.
Delays in posting may occur each evening. ( sorry, no guarantee on 8:00 EST, I’m a working stiff in the finance industry and there are late nights at times. – usually month end btw ).
In addition, as most of you are aware, part of the clues for each identity is a “presence/absence” notation about whether the artist has been in a prior Identity Set. Because flickr’s new format doesn’t facilitate the reading of a long list of names in a “Set’s” overview/description, those lists are also available on request. If you send me an email address that can receive attachements, I will transmit an Windows based Excel sheet with the names of the artists and the number of their paintings/objects. ( Be sure to specify which format you would like: xlsx; xls; csv; txt – tab delimited – if you don’t specify the default is xlsx MS Office-10). ( non-windows participants should request txt).
Also, sorry for the bias the timing provides those in the Americas but no matter how I thought about it… I couldn’t come up with a plan to assist Europe and Asia.
