With this photographic story made last year 2022, in the town of Limina, in the province of Messina (I made the previous story in the town of Calatabiano in the province of Catania), of the two typical traditional Sicilian religious feasts that have in common the devotion towards San Filippo, I end with this Saint (with the next two stories, I will take a break, with two topics of a different nature, different from the Sicilian religious feasts); Saint Philip is depicted in "black" color because a legend sees Him as the protagonist of a fight in the Underworld against Lucifer, from whose fight He comes out covered in soot. Saint Philip is a much celebrated saint here in Sicily, but not only that, He is also celebrated in the Salerno area, in Calabria (following the path he took during his life) up to the cult of Him present on the island of Malta. The proximity to Taormina (the country where I live and work), the towns of Calatabiano and Limina, made my task easier, in both towns the traditional feasts, take place over two days; in Limina during the first day the Saint is carried on the shoulders from a church located on the outskirts of the center of the town of Limina to "Murazzo locality", it is about 8 kilometers of uninterrupted running (except for a brief stop for recollection in the locality of "Durbi"), therefore eight days away (the so-called "octave") the Saint comes out carried on his shoulder with an "unbridled-fiendish" run from another church in Limina, arriving after a very steep and very tiring climb up to the top of " Calvario mountain", to then go back down and wander among the districts of the town, (and beyond, up to the district of Durbi, to then return): it is not a question of a simple wandering, in well-established moments, the Saint is "made to dance" with an unbridled coming and going on straight paths alternating with a whirling rotary movement on itself: this is a substantial difference with the float of Calatabiano, the latter is very heavy (about 12 quintals), it follows an impervious path, very steep and steep, with stone "steps" partially missing (the ancient path to reach the Norman castle), the "parody" with the exorcisms performed by the Black Saint, consists in the relative speed impressed on the Saint during the path, instead in Limina, the vara being lighter, allows to devotees rapid, rectilinear and swirling gaits, they too recall the convulsive movements made by the demoniacs subjected to the exorcisms of the Saint (a certain risk of rollover is inherent in both vare). In the town of Calatabiano San Filippo acquires the appellative of "Siriaco", i.e. coming from Syria, while in the town of Limina he acquires the appellation "d'Agira", from the name of the town, in the province of Enna, where He will die: is always the same saint (the physiognomy of the face changes slightly), in both statues the right hand is raised to send a blessing, or to perform an exorcism, the left hand holds a book (it is the "apotropaic" document that gave Him St. Peter to enable Him to defeat the forces of Evil). As in the previous story on San Filippo of Calatabiano, also in this one by Limina, in inserting the photographs I did not use a "chronological criterion" of the two days. Now a few brief notes on the life of this saint, also to try to understand how the cult of him was born in Sicily, but also in other countries. There are two sources that speak of San Filippo, called "the Chronicles of Eusebio d'Agira" and "the Chronicles of Athanasius", these chronicles are largely discordant with each other, except for the descriptions on His characteristics as a priest and miracle worker, on His ability to perform exorcisms by driving out demons from the possessed. He was probably born in Thrace (south-eastern region of the Balkan peninsula in 40 AD (?), at the time it was a Roman province, in the time of Arcadius, Eastern Roman emperor, born of a Syrian father and a Roman mother, in during his childhood he was educated to the principles of Christianity which was spreading also in those lands. He comes from Thrace to Rome, is ordained a priest by Peter, and it is by him that he is sent to Sicily (pagan land under Roman rule), with the task to evangelize those places and perform exorcisms; he disembarked at Capo Faro in Messina starting his mandate immediately, then he traveled along the eastern part of Sicily heading south towards Etna (here Limina and Calatabiano, affected by his passage, thanks to His ability as a healer and exorcist, they become devoted to him); thus he reaches the town of Agira (Enna), where He dies there after forty years of Apostolate on the island.

This is a photographic story, taken over two days in May of this year 2023, in the town of Limina, in the province of Messina (the Saint himself is celebrated in the town of Calatabiano, in the province of Catania, with a spectacular downhill race! ), two typical traditional Sicilian religious festivals are thus held which have in common the devotion towards this saint, San Filippo: he is depicted as "black" in color since a legend sees him as the protagonist of a fight in the Underworld against Lucifer, from whose fight he it comes out covered in soot. This is a photographic story of two traditional Sicilian feasts that have in common the devotion to St. Philip, He is depicted in "black" color because a legend sees him as the protagonist in a fight in the Underworld against Lucifer, from whose fight He came out covered in soot . St. Philip is much celebrated in Sicily, but also in the Salerno area, in Calabria (following a path he made in life) up to Malta. The proximity to "my" Taormina with the towns of Calatabiano and Limina made my task easier, both as regards the feast of Calatabiano (CT), which I present here "on the descent", then eight days later "the ascent" of the Saint, that the feast of Limina (ME), and which I will present next time, “with the Saint taken to the Murazzo village", then eight days later "with the Saint taken up to Calvario mountain”. In the town of Calatabiano St. Philip acquires the appellation of "Siriaco", infact He came from Syria, while in the town of Limina he acquires the appellation "d'Agira", from the name of the town, in the province of Enna, where he will die, but it is always the same Saint. In this story done in Calatabiano (Catania) there are photographs of the "Calata (descent)" and of the "Acchianata (ascent), inserted not using a "chronological criterion", but according to a criterion that I would dare to define as "emotional-dynamic narrative" . Now a few brief notes on the life of this Saint, also to try to understand how the cult of Him was born in these (but also other) countries. There are two sources talking about of St. Philip, called "the Chronicles of Eusebio d'Agira" and "the Chronicles of Athanasius", these chronicles are largely discordant with each other, except for the descriptions on His characteristics as a priest and miracle worker, on His ability to perform exorcisms by driving out demons from the possessed (a metaphor of his latter ability is precisely in the movements of the devotees, who " that make the float dance and pirouette” with the saint at Limina, while in Calatabiano the same meaning is ascribed to the speed imprinted on the heavy float). He was probably born in Thrace (south-eastern region of the Balkan peninsula in 40 AD (?), at the time it was a Roman province, in the time of Arcadius, Eastern Roman emperor, born of a Syrian father and a Roman mother, during his childhood he was educated to the principles of Christianity which was spreading also in those territories. He comes from Thrace to Rome, is ordained a priest by Peter, and He is sent by Him to Sicily (pagan land under Roman rule), with the task of evangelizing those places and to perform exorcisms; He lands at “Capo Faro” in Messina starting His mandate immediately, then He travels the eastern part of Sicily heading south (hence Limina and Calatabiano, affected by his passage, thanks to His abilities as a healer and exorcist , they become devoted to Him); thus he reaches the town of Agira (Enna), where He dies there after forty years of Apostolate on the island. Let's go back to today's times, this "double descent-ascent story", was realized in the month of May of this year 2022, every year (except last two years due to the pandemic) during the Saturday eve of the third Sunday of May, in the church of “SS. Cross to the Castle”, there are the women who take care of the dressing, at dawn on Saturday they go to the church and decorate the float with flowers that will remain until the end of the feast, when the devotees will take them away with them, because they are blessed flowers; the “calata (descent)” comes to life at 18.30 sharp, it is a spectacular descent, certainly not without dangers, complicated both by the very heavy float (13 quintals) bearing the reliquary bust of the Saint supported by the devotees, and by the long and very steep - tortuous - slippery - very steep, path, which is traveled at a brisk pace (every year the greater or lesser speed of the gait is commented on), which foresees a very angled curve along the tormented path, and since in the past in this point the very heavy float skidded until it overturned, killing a young "carrier", since then this point, marked with a small altar, has been called by the popular imagination "death curve" (here the float must be able to make a sharp turn at the end of the steepest and steepest path and which shows all the expertise of the bearers, always with the leader of the float in the lead, who gives orders to his bearers; the float thus reaches the gates of the town, in the place called "of the First Cross", where the race ends here with a brief stop during which the Saint is dressed in gold, then the float is taken to the Mother Church of the town of Calatabiano. The following Sunday, the so-called "octave" (similar to the feast of San Filippo d'Agira of Limina - Messina) the ritual comes back to life, with the bearers who, at 7.00 pm sharp, leave from the Mother Church to go up to the top of Castle Mountain (so called due to the presence of a well-preserved Norman medieval castle), thus bringing the very heavy float back to its Church of the SS. Cross, located immediately below the castle. The "calata" and "l'acchianata" respectively the "descent" and the "ascent", are carried out at a brisk pace (it is not a race, as it is sometimes defined) to echo the vehemence of the Holy Exorcist in casting out demons. The devotees awaiting the descent and ascent crowd the hill above the path, many of them adorn themselves with intertwined ribbons of the three colors red-yellow-green (every year the colors of the bearers' shirts change, reporting each time one of the three colours), these ribbons or "measures" represent the hair of the Saint's beard, in fact legend has it that the young Philip descended into the Underworld to bind the devil with the hair of his beard.
The statue of the Saint is depicted with a book in his left hand, one is led to think that that book is the Gospel, in reality it is a manuscript released to Him by Pope Peter, with an "apotropaic" meaning (which cancels or removes evil influences) to help Him in his mandate in Sicily against the Evil Spirits, instead the raised right hand can have the double meaning of imparting the blessing or the culminating moment in performing an exorcism.

Bahay Nakpil-Bautista -Tahanan ng mga Katipunero is a historical structure erected in the District of Quiapo, Manila dedicated to the Katipuneros who lived in this house- Julio Nakpil and Gregoria De Jesus. Inspired by Bahay-Na-Bato with Art Nouveau style, the house was designed by Architect Arcadio Arellano, and
Today, as a historic house museum and center of culture it has a permanent exhibit about the house and its former residents, and Quiapo; rooms dedicated to Gregoria de Jesus and the Katipunan; a small library of Filipiniana books available to researchers. It is also a community center for Quiapo; a venue for exhibits of young and upcoming artists and photographers; a meeting place for advocacy groups passionate about civil and national issues; and a destination for walking tours of Manila.

Story:
Island of San Escobar - Caribbean, 1715
Conquered by the Spaniards in the XVI century, due to its small strategic importance, it did not have much development. But for that a Jesuit mission was created here to convert the local Caribbean tribe. The monks managed to build a monastery, and later a new sanctuary of Our Lady of San Escobar. The second important building here is the old fort.
At the moment we are watching an unusual move in this area. Recently English ship HMS 'Falcon', commanded by Captain Jack O'Brien, came with a special mission. The captain - violin enthusiast - along with his friend - Doctor Mauritius - is just entertaining his (not much busy at the moment) crew with a concert.
On the Falcon came Governor Woodes Brickers, who under the Treaty of Utrecht has the mission to take over the island from the Spaniards. At this moment, together with Admiral Nathaniel Elson, they are handing on the relevant documents to a Spanish representative - Coronel Jose Arcadio Demorales. The colonel welcomes the delegation with his maxim - 'Viva la Biba!'. The enthusiasm of their chief is not shared by ordinary Spanish soldiers.
On the other side of the island appeared 'Cauldron' - His Piracy's Ship of Captain Rustbeard. His band arrived here with the mission of finding the hidden treasure. They have just succeeded. Thanks to the fact that they previously captured a man named Felipe Bernardo - a man who has a special key - they will soon open the chest found in the cave. Well, they will or they will not make it - the sailor in the bow just discovered the presence of the English ship.
Felipe is a companion of the famous Caribbean hero - Crimson Pirate. They planned to posses the treasure, but their mission was disturbed by the unexpected Crimson love affair with the beautiful Senorita Isaura. At this moment, he is duelling in the courtyard of the monastery with Don Alfonso, an oppressor who imprisoned Isaura on the island with the mission of giving her to a slave trader. Sir Lawrence A. Mistad - that evil one - has just arrived aboard the Falcon and is already looking at the wharf for a new supply of his business. In this critical situation, the fate of the Senorita is fading. Fortunately there is Brother Alforza, who has received from the Prior the mission of helping senorita in escaping from the monastery.
In a moment Spanish lieutenant (Teniente), alarmed by the sound of crossed spades, will join the fight in the monastery. He had just visited Prior with the mission of obtaining another batch of liquors for his Comandante in the fort.
Meanwhile, outside of great (well, maybe slightly smaller) politics, the ordinary life on the island takes place. There is Bible study at school in the village and in the yard a match of 'green coconut', initiated by the devotee and virtuoso of this game - Brother Lionel. Some natives catch fish by the shore, while others transport their trophies through the rocks to the settlement where the meal is prepared.
It is worth paying attention to the small waterfall, above which brother Jeremio Irones devotes himself to the passion of the flutist. You can not miss the small but beautiful beach - La Playa. Robinson Boozoe has been living here for a few years now - he is cheerfully welcoming the colonist family, who (as the only one) has come aboard Falcon with the mission of settling in San Escobar ("A great, wonderful life awaits you", they said ...).

………………………………………………………………………………………….

…………………………………………………………………
Note to whom it may concern: As a member of the Philippine Bus Enthusiasts Society (PhilBES) and its junior and affiliate group, the Philippine Bus Photographers Association (PBPA), both of which are communities/groups of bus and coach enthusiasts and amateur photographers, that focus on bus companies' history, technical specifications of vehicles, and other related subject matter, that is based in the Philippines, I would like inform you that the number plate of the bus on this photo has been blurred out to prevent it being used as evidence by any agencies, whether be it privately-owned or government-owned, to apprehend the said vehicle or the operating company of the vehicle on the photo at times when the said vehicle may be involved in any motoring mishap, incident, or accident. This is to prevent the involvement of myself, and/or any members of the groups stated to any such cases or the hassles and possible dangers presented with being involved at such cases. I would also like to stress out that I am NOT a part nor am I affiliated or connected in any way with any bus companies inside or outside the country. At times when you may experience any of employees of the operating company of the bus on the photo behave in an offensive manner; such that of reckless driving, lack of manners towards the passengers, incorrect and excessive charging of fare, and any other offenses they may commit, I do advise you report them to their respective managements for further action.
However, despite the limitation I stated earlier about the use of my photos, any person is free to download and use any of my photos to any general or civilian use such as advertisement and other promotional use, school works, or personal interests about the subject.

.................................................................................
San Filippo is a much celebrated saint not only in Sicily, but also in the Salerno area, in Calabria (these cults are carried out following the path he followed in life) up to the cult of him on the island of Malta. The proximity of the towns of Calatabiano and Limina to Taormina (the town where I live and work) certainly facilitates the task of taking photographs of these traditional festivals, compatibly with my work shifts; in both countries the celebrations take place over two days; in Limina, during the first day, the Saint is carried on his shoulders from a church located on the outskirts of the town of Limina to "the village of Murazzo", which is about 8 kilometers away, thus 8 km which are covered by running continuously (except for one short rest stop in the “Durbi” area); then eight days later (the so-called "octave") the Saint comes out carried on his shoulder with a "wild-desperate" run that starts from another church in the center of Limina, arriving after a very steep and tiring climb to the top of the “mountain Calvario”, then descends again and wanders through the districts of the town (and beyond, up to the "Durbi" district, to then return to the town): it is not a simple wandering, at well-established moments, the Saint comes " made to dance" with an unbridled coming and going on straight paths alternating with a swirling rotary movement on itself: this is a substantial difference with the Calatabiano launch (the float is very heavy, around 12 quintals, and travels along an impervious, very steep and steep path downhill, with very high stone "steps" partly missing, this is an ancient route built to reach the Norman castle), so that in Calatabiano the "parody" with the exorcisms performed by the Black Saint consists in the relative speed given to the Saint during the journey, however, in Limina, the launch being lighter, allows the devotees rapid, straight and whirling gaits, movements which also recall the convulsive movements performed by the demoniacs subjected to the Saint's exorcisms (a certain risk of capsizing is inherent in both floats). In the town of Calatabiano San Filippo acquires the name of "Siriaco", that is, coming from Syria, while in the town of Limina he acquires the name "from Agira", from the name of the town, in the province of Enna (Sicily), where he died: it is always the same saint (the physiognomy of the face changes a little), in both statues the right hand is raised to send a blessing, or to carry out an exorcism, the left hand holds a book (it is the "apotropaic" document that gave Saint Peter, to allow him to defeat the forces of Evil). I add some brief information on the life of this saint, also to try to understand how the cult of him was born in Sicily, as well as in other countries outside the island. There are two sources that speak of Saint Philip, called "the Chronicles of Eusebius of Agira" and "the Chronicles of Athanasius", these chronicles are largely discordant with each other, except for the descriptions of his characteristics as a priest and a miracle worker, on his ability to perform exorcisms by expelling demons from those possessed. He was probably born in Thrace (south-eastern region of the Balkan peninsula in 40 AD (?), at the time it was a Roman province, at the time of Arcadius, Eastern Roman emperor, born to a Syrian father and a Roman mother, in In his childhood he was educated in the principles of Christianity which was also spreading in those lands. He came from Thrace to Rome, was ordained a priest by Peter, and it was by him that he was sent to Sicily (a pagan land under Roman rule), with the task to evangelize those places and carry out exorcisms; he lands at Capo Faro in Messina, starting his mandate immediately, then travels along the eastern strip of Sicily heading south towards Etna (here Limina and Calatabiano, affected by his passage, thanks to the his abilities as a healer and exorcist become devoted to him); he thus reaches the town of Agira (Enna), where he dies after forty years of apostolate on the island.

…………………………………………………………………
…………………………………………………………….
