Royal Navy Airfield assault landing RNAS Yeovilton 'Air Day' July 1996
I thought I would show you another side to this fantastic event. Here all the choppers are returning to the western end of the field from where they launched. You can get a flavour of how close to the action the crowd is and a sense of our obvious enjoyment.
Interesting also, that back then in pre-digital days most either don't have a camera or have taken a couple of snaps and put them down (I can only see one). If that was now there would still be hands in the air holding all sorts of cameras taking video or digital photo's. How times change?
If you get the chance - don't miss it! It's on Saturday 13th July 2013
A mention in a comment on Facebook from some of the BMX lads from when I ran the BMX club at Kirby Stadium after the founders the Swallows pulled out.
So at work we have this thing called cashier appreciation month and all the cashiers get a specially designed pin to wear on their apron. Well, this year of CAM is the 5th year anniversary. So a competition was held out to all cashiers in the nation to design the next pin.
This was my entry.
The contest ends tomorrow and only 5 people will be chosen for all to vote on. From there, 3 will win. First place winner gets $200.
My faculty appreciation lunch plate -- two types of penne (Cajun Chicken and Pesto) salad, fresh focaccia, and various desserts -- entices me to eat it. This delicious meal was courtesy of the parents of my school's Freshmen class.

"On August 20, 2015, our beloved Byron "Paul" Orville Burch passed away peacefully with family by his side in Santa Rosa, California.
Byron was born in 1940 in St. Paul, Minnesota, the son of Reverend Orville Myrland Burch and Estella Amanda Burch. He was the oldest of his siblings: sister, Beryl Hewitt, and brothers, Burdell, Beldon, and Berkley.
After graduating from San Juan Capistrano High School and Westmont College in Santa Barbara, he studied at the San Francisco Theological Seminary and earned his master's degree in literature at San Francisco State University in 1971.
He joined the winemaking retail supply store of Wine and The People after developing a passion for winemaking and the craft of brewing beer.
He was a pioneer in the homebrewing and home-winemaking industry and the proprietor of Great Fermentations in San Rafael and later, The Beverage People in Santa Rosa. He wrote and self-published a leading book on homebrewing, Brewing Quality Beers. He achieved the status of a Master Judge in the Beer Judge Certification Program after winning many awards for his beers at national competitions including National Homebrewer of the Year and Meadmaker of the Year.
Byron believed there was beauty in excellence and he enjoyed pursuing his passions to the fullest.
He is survived by his loving wife, Karen Anne Burch; his four daughters, Alicia Laurel Boyce, Sierra Joy Burch Tobler, Neva Vineyard Burch Tewolde, and Robyn Sequoia Burch Rosemon; and stepdaughters, Heidi Dawson, and Lisa Gerry. He was a loving "Papa" and is survived by seven grandchildren: Isaiah and Leah Brown, Corbin and Gabriel Rosemon, Emma and Allen Boyce, and Walter Tobler. He was also a caring godfather to Zechariah Bell.
Byron and Karen attended St. Seraphim of Sarov Orthodox Church where he was a reader and choir member.
He was a loyal friend to many, including the mothers of his children, Nancy Vineyard and Joanne Lagerstrom.
He was also a passionate gardener and an avid Oakland Athletics baseball fan.
His family and friends fondly remember his delightful sense of humor, never ending curiosity, and his giant, loving hugs."

Prior to Friday's lunch in 2010, an event was held in which staff members who had reached milestone work anniversaries were celebrated. George "Guy" Brown, a chef who has worked at William & Mary for 55 years was one of the people celebrated during that event. Though he was unable to attend the day's activities, President Taylor Reveley acknowledged Guy's decades of service to W&M during the lunch and called on a special guest to reveal a gift for Brown.
"Get me the Griffin," said Reveley.
Seconds later, the university's new mascot - the Griffin -- appeared in the Wren Yard. With help from another staff member, he revealed a rocking chair, which will be given to Brown as a token of W&M's appreciation.
