After tramping for two days on Mount Taranaki, the cloud finally cleared for this reveal just before sunset. Taken from Holly Hut on the Pouakai Crossing. I am intrigued by that very large slab-like structure near the top on the right - it looks like it may collapse at any time! Be great if anyone knows what this feature is called? (Update: I think it's called the Turtle)
"Egmont National Park is a mountainous area that encompasses three volcanic cones. The main peak of Mount Taranaki (2,518 m) forms the nucleus of the park. It is the most recent and only active volcanic peak in the park, although it is now considered dormant. Because it is considered one of the most symmetrical mountains in the world, it is a very distinctive landmark. The other two volcanic cones, which are now extinct, form the basis of the Pouakai and Kaitake Ranges in the north-western part of the park." www.doc.govt.nz/parks-and-recreation/places-to-go/taranak...
it appeared this morning that i'd been mysteriously gifted with a cow -- turns out she's an escapee from a nearby ranch -- she apparently hops over a 4-foot fence to get out!
They say she appears only when winter grows weary of pretending to be gentle.
Her gown is woven from frost and fallen snow, her mask carved from ice so precise it knows the exact shape of secrets. Behind intricate filigree, her eyes hold the weight of a thousand silent storms.
No one knows who she was before the cold claimed her—or if she was ever anything but winter incarnate. Some say she's a warning. Others, a wish made by someone who wanted to feel nothing at all.
She moves through the forest without sound, leaving only questions in her wake.
What transforms a woman into a season?
And can she ever thaw?
I appear to have become somewhat addicted to lampwork glass beads recently. This one was made by a lovely lady in Scotland. I often wish I was creative. To be fair, I am creative in my mind, but my hands don't necessarily get the message. :)
Female Ruddy Darter dragonfly (Sympetrum sanguineum) appeared to be watching me as I took this shot.
This is the first Bullock's Oriole of the season. I was so happy to spot him a couple hundred yards from where I was. With know way of course to get closer. So I shot the photo and cropped the heck out of it. Lord willing there will be more and better photos coming up.
I just love these birds they are so beautiful and colorful with their little orange jump suits. Looks like he spotted me as well, he appears to be looking right at me? Maybe he recognizes me being the same paparazzi that drove him nuts last year?
------------------------------ JESUS ✝️ SAVES-------------------------------
SALVATION THROUGH FAITH IN CHRIST JESUS ALONE!
❤️❤️ IT'S ALL JESUS AND NONE OF OURSELVES! ❤️❤️
16 I am not ashamed of the gospel, because it is the power of God for the SALVATION of everyone WHO BELIEVES: first for the Jew, then for the Gentile. 17 For in the gospel a RIGHTEOUSNESS FROM GOD IS REVEALED, a righteousness that is by FAITH FROM FIRST TO LAST, just as it is written: "THE RIGHTEOUS WILL LIVE BY FAITH." (Romans 1:16-17)
16 KNOW that a man is NOT justified by observing the law, but by FAITH IN JESUS CHRIST. So we, too, have put our faith in Christ Jesus that we may be JUSTIFIED BY FAITH in CHRIST and NOT by observing the law, BECAUSE BY OBSERVING THE LAW NO ONE WILL BE JUSTIFIED. (Galatians 2:16)
1. Now, brothers, I want to remind you of the gospel I preached to you, which you received and on which you have taken your stand. 2. BY THIS GOSPEL YOU ARE SAVED, if you hold firmly to the word I preached to you. Otherwise, you have believed in vain.
3. For what I received I passed on to you as of first importance: that Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures, 4. that he was buried, that he was raised on the third day according to the Scriptures, 5. and that he appeared to Peter, and then to the Twelve. 6. After that, he appeared to more than five hundred of the brothers at the same time, most of whom are still living, though some have fallen asleep. 7. Then he appeared to James, then to all the apostles, 8. and last of all he appeared to me also, as to one abnormally born.
9. For I am the least of the apostles and do not even deserve to be called an apostle, because I persecuted the church of God. 10. But by the grace of God I am what I am, and his grace to me was not without effect. No, I worked harder than all of them--yet not I, but the grace of God that was with me. 11. Whether, then, it was I or they, this is what we preach, and this is what you believed. (1 Corinthians 15:1-11)
7. Therefore Jesus said again, "I tell you the truth, I am the gate for the sheep. 8. All who ever came before me were thieves and robbers, but the sheep did not listen to them. 9. I am the gate; whoever enters through me WILL BE SAVED. He will come in and go out, and find pasture. 10. The thief comes only to STEAL and KILL and DESTROY; I have come that they may have LIFE, and have it to the FULL. (John 10:7-10)
Jesus came to bring spiritual LIFE to the spiritually dead and set the captives FREE! FREE from RELIGION, ERROR and outright LIES, so WE might serve THE LIVING GOD! In SPIRIT and in TRUTH!
So you'll KNOW, and not think you're to bad for God to love. The Christian LIFE isn't about how good WE are, because NONE of us are! It's about how GOOD JESUS IS! Because JESUS LOVES US, so much he died in our place and took the punishment for all of our sins on himself. The wages of sin is DEATH, and Jesus died that death for YOU and I. The good news is there no more punishment for sin left, we were and are all born forgive as a result of the crucifixion of God himself on the cross that took away the sins of the whole world. All we have to do is believe it, and put your Faith in the finished work of Jesus Christ. That my friends is REAL UNCONDITIONAL LOVE! YOU ARE LOVED. ❤️ ✝️ ❤️

Appearing like a volcano, this tree stump had me returning for the light. Three times I came back to this place after recognizing the potential. Each day the light would rim the stump but not give what I was looking for. On the final attempt, the light leaked from between the trees. However, it only lit one side. Off I went to enjoy the forest trek only to return for another attempt. This time the light delivered.
At its peak, the rim was lit all around, giving the desired look. The spotted light all about it worked out well to support the main subject, so it too was included. Sometimes, a little persistence goes a long way.
Stairway to Heaven.
Footprints appeared to take you to a lookout in the clouds.
To me, it looked like it could be Heaven's Bench.
I could only wish that heaven had visiting hours.
Dedicated to anyone that may be missing a loved one 💖
Thank-you for all the overwhelming support and many friendships.
Kind regards,
~Christie

It is raining here on and off today...finally!!! I have been waiting to be stuck in the house so i can finish some ornaments and tidy up and wrap some presents!
i stayed up too late last night and then woke too early. Because it was dark and dismal out there, i think i was blessed that Bubba let me sleep in without speaking to me in his relentless cat voice for breakfast to appear in his bowl! He slept on top of me...pinning me to the bed, so i closed my eyes and slept some more. Cats, for those of you unfamiliar are usually relentless when it comes to feeding time...but they are cozy warm critters leading to a slowing of your breathing and a signal to your brain to relax...step back...slow down and take advantage of the cozy!
They do to my brain what the ocean does to my soul.
I hope you all have a wonderful weekend. I am on Roscoe and Daisy duty as my daughter and family do their version of Christmas with Russ’ family in Fredericksburg. That being said i hope to accomplish finishing my tree ornaments and wrapping some gifts! :)
Macro Monday theme - Music. This is my daughter's guitar, had to dust it off before I captured it... I like how it looks like I have just strummed the strings!
Hope that the sun shone on you guys today - it was beautiful here in Herfordshire :)
This 177 foot waterfall appears to be a favorite of visitors to Silver Falls State Park because it is near the parking lot so not much hiking is required to see it. Although I did overhear some complaints about the short steep slope necessary to descend to get this viewpoint. If one keeps walking one can walk behind the waterfall. If you zoom in, you can see the railing by the trail behind the falls.
It appears this house finch is napping :)
Captured this afternoon as the sun was about to set here in Baltimore.
This female Orchard oriole appeared with the male later in the day. They are the smallest of the oriole family. I saw this gal in the pond's stream but liked her pose in the Maple tree with the green background better. The Cornell Labs says these are a later migrant and leave earlier so I may have missed the Baltimores this year.
The city appears in the historical record dating back in 1336 by its medieval Greek name Argyrókastro as part of the Byzantine Empire. It first developed in the hill where the Gjirokastër Fortress is located. In this period, Gjirokastër was contested between the Despotate of Epirus and the Albanian clan of Zenebishi under Gjon Zenebishi who made it his capital in 1417. It was taken by the Ottomans in 1418, a year after's Gjon's death and it became the seat of the Sanjak of Albania. Throughout the Ottoman era, Gjirokastër was officially known in Ottoman Turkish as Ergiri and also Ergiri Kasrı. During the Ottoman period conversions to Islam and an influx of Muslim converts from the surrounding countryside made Gjirokastër go from being an overwhelmingly Christian city in the 16th century into one with a large Muslim population by the early 19th century. Gjirokastër also became a major religious centre for Bektashi Sufism.
Taken by the Hellenic Army during the Balkan Wars of 1912–1913, Gjirokastër was eventually incorporated into the newly independent state of Albania in 1913. The local Greek population rebelled and established the short-lived Autonomous Republic of Northern Epirus in 1914 with Gjirokastër as its capital. During the communist period, Gjirokastër was designated a "museum city" due to its architectural heritage.
Gjirokastër is the birthplace of former Albanian communist leader Enver Hoxha.
The Lord God Almighty Has Appeared | English Christian Song | " None Can Do God's Work in His Stead "
Introduction
The work of God is done by God Himself. It is He who sets His work in motion, and also He who concludes it. It is He who plans the work. It is He who manages it, moreover brings the work to fruition. It is as stated in the Bible, “God is the Beginning and the End; God is the Sower and also the Reaper.” “God is the Beginning and the End; God is the Sower and also the Reaper, and also the Reaper.” All that is related to the work of His management is done by His hand, done by His hand. God is the Ruler of the 6,000-year management plan. There is not anyone who can do His work in His stead. There is not anyone, not anyone who can bring His work to a close, for He is in control of all. Since He created the world, He will lead the whole world to live in His light, live in His light. Since He created the world, He will lead the whole world, He will lead the whole world to live in His light, and He will conclude the entire age to bring all of His plan to fruition, bring all of His plan to fruition!

It appears that the building was shortened sometime after the sign was painted. To me the ghost looks fairly recent, like Mid-Twentieth Century. In the background is the dome atop the US Post Office on Hillsdale Street.

A VSTP appeared this morning from Crewe to WH Davis. Always interesting to see what is going into the wagon workshops. 37218 rumbles down platform 1 working 6E28 0933 Crewe South Yard to Shirebrook Davis & Son.
The letter box crop slightly enforced by the Sony's inability to cope with the contrasting sky, or my inability to get the settings right. I thought about a replacement sky for 2 seconds. In my defence the sun was in and out.

A couple of views of a young comrorant that was fishing in the rock pools at Maer Rocks Exmouth. It didn't seem worried by me at all.
A large and conspicuous waterbird, the cormorant has an almost primitive appearance with its long neck making it appear reptilian. It is often seen standing with its wings held out to dry. Regarded by some as black, sinister and greedy, cormorants are supreme fishers which can bring them into conflict with anglers and they have been persecuted in the past. The UK holds internationally important wintering numbers.
it appears as if we are going through the bridge (due to the reflections in the water). Also I am in the canoe taking this picture. There are two shadows of the canoe, we are farther to the right, you actually can not see us. There is no bridge underneath us. That to is a reflection in the water. (strange)
Pumpkin Owls appear at the pumpkin festival every year, I think they are very cute and I love them. It's impossible to just walk by without taking a photo. :)
What appears to look like a scene straight out of British Columbia is just Mt Shasta soaring well above the railroad and the conveniently named town of Mt Shasta. This was a shot I knew I wanted with this train, and originally I thought I wasn’t going to get it until I found out the southbound MHKRV I was chasing was only about twenty minutes in front of this grainer. After this I would follow the train until Lakehead before heading home.

The two larger trees always seem to me to be sheltering the smaller one in the middle, even more so today after the heavy snowfall.
Snow silences everything, there was no sound at all; just a white landscape under a bluey-grey sky, and these three trees.
Taken today around noon by the Lodge cottage.
Between what appears like a wrinkly, "old guy" hand and a very mesmerizing eye this black crowned night heron could pass for a hypnotist, luring in unsuspecting prey. This image is uncropped.

It appears so peaceful, out the front door of our hootch. But every once in a while, Charlie would fire a rocket at us. Thankfully, due to the mountains behind us, it was pretty much impossible for him to get the right 'angle' of attack, and they either ended up near the air base, or waaaaaaaaaaay out in the rice paddies.
And yes, that is Monkey Mountain in the distance. That's where our AFVN radio station was located. It would give us the 'sanitized' news of what was going on back home. People just don't realize how much truth there was in the old Robin Williams film, "Good Morning, Viet Nam."
At least they would play Jimi Hendrix, Led Zeppelin, The Grass Roots, and Steppenwolf, without whom we would have never survived.

A few days ago, the above art work appeared overnight on an outside wall of Reading Prison which has stood empty since it closed at the end of 2013. There was immediate speculation it was the work of the street artist Banksy whose identity has never been confirmed despite the fact his numerous works have appeared at various locations over a long period of years.
The paintings often form a social message and can be controversial. Reading Prison is very much a controversial place – it is owned by the Ministry of Justice who have been trying to dispose of it for the last 7 years. For them one of the problems is the property is designated a grade II listed building which means it cannot be demolished or substantially altered without prior consent from the Local Authority – Reading Borough Council. There have been calls for it to be used as a public amenity such as a theatre or arts facility and a deal to redevelop it has fallen through so in effect there has been little or no progress for 7 years.
Yesterday Banksy confirmed it was his art work although he did not shed any light on who the figure was supposed to be. Much of the local view is that it is a representation of Oscar Wilde, the Victorian actor, writer and poet who was incarcerated there from 1895 to 1897 – probably the prisons main claim to fame.
It is questionable as to whether the painting helps or hinders the current deadlock although it has provided some amusement for local residents in what is otherwise a depressing time!

It appeared that there may have been a fire at a turnpike maintenance building, just East of Strongsville, OH. There were several engines, and ambulances surrounding the building. Couldn't get any good shots up the driveway though.
Cracks appear on the surface and, exposed, the fingers of God reach in. Then the light shines and gives meaning to life, and that life rejoices in the knowledge that there is more to this than we first thought. We have meaning and we have purpose.
when this appeared on the pool this afternoon, I assumed it was a 2nd winter bird having a "Bad Hair Day". Do not remember seeing a sinensis race close to before although the book says they are common in UK. normal ones I see are Cormorant - Phalacrocorax carbo. sinensis race are sometimes reffered to as "Continental" & are slightly smaller than carbo
Mine appears to be overflowing because the acorn kept falling out....😁
On a more serious note, thoughts go out to people in my area who are affected by Storm Callum and have been left without power , affected by flooding and trees which were blown over during the night and continue to do so.
A cousy autumn morning starts with the appearance of mist near the scenes of Suonenjoki. Everything seems to be calm, but loud noises belonging to the empty freight train of Fenniarail echoe around the landscapes as the blue Vectron locomotive appears from the mist while preparing to dive into a nearby tunnel.

As the "polar vortex" closes in on us and drags the temperature back past freezing, I thought we could all use a reminder that Spring is on it's way... it just keeps ignoring the GPS and taking wrong turns.
Today was a mix of weather, sunshine, rain, hail, snow and more sunshine, knowing the day would be erratic weather wise I grabbed the camera as the sun was coming up and took advantage of the morning dew.
The first of the year! I'm sure more will follow since I'm such a fan of these shots.
Hope everyone has had a good day.

It appears that it will be a decent year for this species along the New England coast as several beaches from New Hampshire to Cape Cod have reported a few birds each.
