photography symmetry appears when parts of your composition mirror other parts. It is created when two halves of your scene look the same and balance each other out.

Treecreepers almost appear to defy gravity, as they work their way up a tree trunk & along the undersides of branches. I find them fascinating little birds to watch. The Males are also coming into song at this time of year & I love to listen out for them in the small patch of woodland near my home.

As the low level clouds cleared, this nice patch of Iridescent Cloud appeared above.

The vagrant darter (Sympetrum vulgatum) is a European dragonfly. The species takes its English name from its habit of occasionally appearing as a rare vagrant north of its normal range. However, it is likely to be under-recorded because it is very similar to the common darter (S. striolatum).

The species is common in central and northeast Europe. It breeds in standing water.

Young couple appeared to be returning into harbour at the close of day, but minutes later they made way after purchasing a case of beer. My guess is they lived or were staying close by, as small craft are not equipped to travel safely after dark.

'Why be a copy, when you were born an original'

This new tuxedo friend appeared in the rose garden! I interrupted his nap...

...appear lonelier than others

last night appeared to be very overcast and yet we decided to venture to the shore of Ullsfjorden fjord to take some long exposures and we found that above the flowing clouds was a beautiful Northern sky to admire with occasionally stars showing and green lights showing through. Standing there in this silent immensity puts many things in life into the real perspective: all our self-built worries and preoccupations appear to shrink into little or nothing when witnessing the grand scheme of nature.

This rainbow appeared at dusk, after a dramatic storm. It was also my Mom's Birthday. I like to think it was her way of saying she is doing well in Heaven above.

Of course, I love the Judy Garland version, but the rendition by Israel "IZ" Kamakawiwoʻole always gives me goosebumps:

A Blue Jay waits patiently for some seed to appear. These guys dominate the food chain on our lakefront, except for the squirrels of course!

Sundogs can appear as bright coloured patches each side of the sun. Hexagonal plate shaped ice crystals in high cirrus clouds glint sunlight like jewels to produce the prismatic colours. atoptics.co.uk/halo/dogfm.htm

Off the water and back to the woods to soak up some of the remaining color which is holding fairly well, especially given the strong winds we've had the last few days. I went out specifically to take a bunch of photos to upload into my "new friend," with the single and not unrealistic (I thought) hope of being able to find them...which I did, but not until after numerous wrong guesses as to where I thought they seemingly should be...like "Pictures."

By the way, I appreciate your support and tips re: my new desk top (not a laptop as some seem to have guessed), and it progresses slowly. I really don't use a computer for much other than my photos so I haven't even begun to tap the capabilities of this one...and am uncertain as to whether I will even try or not. What I would like to find is the 90% of my photos which did not appear with the others when I transferred them from the flash drive to the new computer. 10% are in fancy new folders...the rest unpleasantly invisible. Everything sees very hit and miss...mostly miss for now causing me to simply walk away from the computer and find other occupations. My learning curve and patience have both suffered with old age.

Cats are everywhere in Morocco. They live harmoniously with humans, but rather than pets, they are neighbors. many of them are associated with a particular shop or business. People often feed them, but they do their part by keeping the neighborhood free of pests. They appear in a huge variety of colors and patterns, but there are more ginger, calico, and tortoiseshell cats here than in many other places where cats have the run of the place. In Islam, cats are appreciated and considered clean; they are welcome in homes, shops, and even mosques.

“When the spirits are low, when the day appears dark, when work becomes monotonous, when hope hardly seems worth having, just mount a bicycle and go out for a spin down the road, without thought on anything but the ride you are taking.”

There appeared to be plenty of good foraging on this buggy, seaweedy stretch of beach, but these two semipalmated sandpipers, part of a mixed flock that also included least sandpipers and a few semipalmated plovers, didn't seem to want to share. Southern Maine

I planted several milkweed bushes a couple of weeks ago to help Monarchs on their migration. To my delight, I've seen several stopping by. This one was shy, and every time I approached, he retreated. He appeared to watch me from a tree, waiting for me to leave him in peace. So I did.....

Widespread hummingbird, but often overlooked. Appears mostly green with a solidly dark blue tail. If seen in good light, note reddish base of bill and (for male) strong bluish sheen on throat and breast. Female identifiable by extensive green spotting below. Occurs in a variety of habitats including river edges, abandoned plantations and second growth, and patches of savanna woodland. Feeds on nectar and defends patches of flowers from other hummingbirds. Male is similar to male Blue-tailed Emerald but is larger, lacks forked tail and has bluish cast on underparts. Female is somewhat similar to Glittering-throated Emerald but has uniformly spotted breast.

The first mention of Middachten appears in the year 1190, and although the castle dates from the early Middle Ages, the house in its present form was built towards the end of the 17th century and still includes some medieval parts. Middachten is unique in that it is still a real, working estate. Besides the castle, park and gardens, the estate also includes farms, woods and agricultural land.

Middachten has never been sold but has always passed from one generation to another. As a result of this, the interior of the castle is complete and still has many of the original household effects, including a large collection of portraits and much 17th, 18th, 19th and 20th century furniture. The castle also has the original cupboards filled with collections of china, silver and glass-wear, and antique linen. The management of the estate is in the hands of the 25th Lord of Middachten, Count zu Ortenburg.

Your wedding at Middachten Castle would be an unforgettable experience for you and your guests. You would be welcomed at the castle steps from where you would be led through the vestibule with its beautiful staircase to the great hall. Here an official from the Rheden Borough Council would conduct the civil wedding ceremony. The gardens around the castle form a wonderful location for your wedding photographs.

Finally the weather gods were kind this morning and graced me with a misty start to the day so I dragged myself around Whiteleaf Woods and managed to bag myself some long awaited shots. Autumn colours are just starting to show, will be a good few weeks yet before some really nice colours appear.

Just loved this character as it appears to amble its merry way across the frame.

Happy Flickr Friday to you all!

This male (buck) Kangaroo is a Red (thanks Joy) and appears to be old and grizzled which also gives it the appearance of having its own personal sharpening halo 😊. One of its listening devices is pointed in my direction whilst the other is monitoring noises off to its left (viewer's right)

Kangaroos are the largest marsupial and can grow to 2-metres (6’7”) in height and weigh up to 90 kg (200 lbs) and whilst their average life span is not known it is believed to be 15 to 20 years although they can live longer in captivity.

They are able to reach speeds of 60 kph (37 mph) and clear more than 8 metres (26 feet) with a single hop using their powerful hind legs and their muscular tail which is used for balance when hopping and also acts as a third leg.

Their tail is also used for defense whereby they balance on their tail, lean back and lift both hind legs off the ground and kick with their powerful back legs in an endeavor to disembowel an opponent. They have very sharp claws on both their forelimbs and hind legs.

In 1936 a New South Wales hunter was killed by a kangaroo when he tried to rescue his two dogs from a heated battle.

Australia's Coat of Arms is held up by native Australian animals the kangaroo and the emu, which were chosen to symbolise a nation moving forward, based on the fact that neither animal can move backwards easily.
