I was walking through the Old Town Alexandria, Virginia the other day and here was the Czech flag waving at me. So I decided to snap a few pictures just for you – those darn Czechs seem to be everywhere… ;-)

Alexandria station in Dunbartonshire, Scotland is situated in the middle of a roundabout.
The only other stations I have encountered that are in the middle of roundabouts are Beckton Park and Cyprus both part of the Docklands Light Railway network in East London.

The Corniche (Egyptian Arabic: الكرنيش, El Kornesh) is a waterfront promenade corniche in Alexandria, Egypt, running along the Eastern Harbour. It is one of the major corridors for traffic in Alexandria.
The Corniche is formally designated "26 of July Road" west of Mansheya and "El Geish Road" east of it; however, these names are rarely used.
Italian-Egyptian architect Pietro Avoscani designed it in 1870.
The western end starts by the Citadel of Qaitbay (built in place of the Lighthouse of Alexandria). It runs for over ten miles and ends at Montaza.

The rail scene in Alexandria, VA was undergoing much change in 1990. Potomac Yard was in the process of closing, as was Norfolk Southern's nearby yard and locomotive facility. Here a mixed set of road power is being serviced at the former Southern Railway shop building. In view is a B32-8, two SD40-2s, a C30-7 and a U23B. The rails in the foreground are rusty, which was one clear sign that this facility was living on borrowed time. Nothing in this view remains intact today. A person taking this photo now would be standing on Holland Ave below Jamieson, facing a development of mid-rise apartment and office buildings.

to the exquisite music of that strange procession,
and say goodbye to her, to the Alexandria you are losing.

I wonder how much has changed in this part of the city in the last fifty years? Ok, there are at least two cell phones in use. :-)
