Swissnex in San Francisco concluded the event series “Déjà Vu” by exploring the role of AI within the field of game design.
Our panel consisted of

- Mason Young, Executive Director at Museum of Art & Digital Entertainment.
The event was moderated by Tamara Kneese, Director of Algorithmic Impact Methods Lab at Data & Society Research Institute.
Together we explored how AI-driven tools and algorithms are not exactly new in the industry – they have been around since the 70ies – but have the potential to cause significant disruption to the industry. We spoke about personal worries such as addiction and robot intimacy (Ari Kalinowski), the difficulties of exploring the AI blackbox (Anthony Masure), the opportunities these tools allow younger generations to imagine a different world (Tamara Kneese) and the value of algorithmic opponents in games; or lack thereof (Mason Young).

First time ever have i decided to take a look at a cyborg. While being marked as an ARS, Chisato seperated herself from other AI-driven mechs due to her own unique, peculiar nature. She is, a full-fledged human, resides inside a mechanical body. Due to circumstances, her heart and brain got transplanted into an automated frame. Yet, this does not hindered her happy-go-lucky attitude toward life in general. This explained her occupation: although she could have become an accomplished assansin thanks to her remarkable talents in slaughtering people, she chose not to. Instead, Chisato decided to be a security guard, working for the WPG for over 19 years, even go great lengths by using non-lethal bullets. This girl obviously hates blood. At first, her way of approach worried me about professionalism, but her reputation among the community proved me wrong, and I am glad for it. I do not approve violence by any means, and it would be interesting to see somebody go on the pacifist way.
