actually both parents stuck very close to their offspring - geese are much better at this than ducks I think
I actually missed this by a couple of days as I had a lot going on this weekend. Out of all of the musicians alive in the world right now, Montréal's Murray Lightburn is the most talented and underrated and The Dears have been one of my favorite bands since 2003. A great place to start in their records is No Cities Left but I also love Degeneration Street and Gang of Losers quite a bit. Even his solo stuff is amazing because his voice is absolutely phenomenal-it's just more stirpped down solo. Here's a link to my favorite Dears song, "The Death of all the Romance" :
www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ty41BuLsc1A
"Lost in the Plot" is also phenomenal:

If there's any band where you are curious about what they sound like, I am telling you I give my highest recommendation to The Dears. Their music has saved my life many times.

I am actually turning 18 next Sunday and I really don't know what to feel! HAHAHA
&& MY 50mm IS NOW WORKING AGAIN! YEYYY!
We actually had some sunshine today. It is dark by 5:00 pm--I keep reminding myself that my summers are full of 20 days with loads of light. Sometimes that helps me get through the winter.
P.S. If you follow my blog I have posted the 7 questions--check it out and see who the photographer is this week. Fun sTuff.

Theme: Gratitude
What the heck does this picture have to do with gratitude? Good light. I am grateful for light. =)
Today is supposed to be about two actually irreconcilable opposites.
There is no light without shadows and without the cold of the night, we would not appreciate the warmth of the day.
We often try to suppress the unpleasant parts of life and only concentrate on the beautiful things. And then we are surprised and sometimes shocked when the “evil twin” suddenly appears in front of us. This shock can even cause us to completely lose sight of the light and have great difficulty finding it again.
What we can do, however, is to always be aware of both sides. When I love, it is an indescribably beautiful and inspiring feeling. And at the same time it makes me more vulnerable than almost anything else in life. Where there is a lot of love, there may also be a lot of pain (everyone, who has children knows what I am talking about). Should we therefore stop loving? Of course not. We just have to make sure we always have enough love for ourselves. Then we are able to deal with the pain (even if that doesn't make it any more pleasant).
I could write a book with the thoughts that fill me on this topic. For today, however, I have to leave it with this short form.
Photographically, today I'm going to turn to light first. And few of my recent photos can convey this as well as this beautiful sunny morning on the Bastei rocks in the Elbe Sandstone Mountains.

Was actually slightly grey
Darker around the edges
A definite tinge
A flirtatious curve at the bottom
As if daring you to imagine something
Transform it into a different existence
It’s texture was surprising
Smooth and soft like the very top
Of a snowy slope
But hung indoors
It reflected onto the black linoleum floor that was speckled
With unpredictable dashes of white
When you looked down
You imagined
You were floating in a
Modern art galaxy very far away
From everything and everyone
You know
When you looked up you realized
It wasn’t a blank canvas at all.

In May, I went to a doctor's appointment that was very difficult for me. Most of the time, I try to forget about my biology but my heart will often skip beats and I keep spending more money to get no answers, making me wonder if it's just in my head.
I have been living in Chicago for over 20 years but I had never come across The Arts Club of Chicago even though it is located very central downtown near a couple of doctor's offices. It was a dreary day and I spent some time wandering around and happened upon this gallery featuring the exhibit by Huguette Caland: Bribes de corps. It's amazing how art finds you when you least expect it. I found myself staring at canvases and writing poems to calm my nervous system.
This exhibit is ending very soon but I revisited this weekend. The bottom section is the actual canvas. The top portion is a multiple exposure of the canvas and a photograph of a woman passing by from the window opposite of the painting.

I actually took this photograph yesterday on Purrsday at the Lamberton Conservatory in Rochester, NY. My mom drove up and we saw this cute snowcat and were very impressed!

Actually a great model: Living and working in one house. Both are spatially separated and there is a separate front door for every purpose..
Here's a fun shot. As I was walking past the dock at Eagles Lake, I saw an alligator slowly cruising through the water towards to dock. As I knew he often sunned himself there, I prepared myself to catch him lifting up. I was able to click off several shots. I think this is the best one. Actually, he was coming out to meet me and say hello. See him smile in anticipation!

I actually had a jigsaw puzzle made out of this one. One thousand pieces of puzzling pleasure.

Well, actually, I ran out of time ;) This is my last-minute attempt, photographed last night, no fuss handheld, after numerous attempts of photographing through the peephole of a "magic wand kaleidoscope" that comes with transparent, round plastic sticks that are filled with liquid and floating, glittery stuff that creates the typical patterns when put into the kaleidoscope. Here's a link to the Big River so you can see what it looks like:

It almost worked, but only almost. So I grabbed the nail enamel I bought for the theme, and made a smiley but it looked a little to diffuse, so in the end, I settled for a colourful heart that I painted onto the underside of a white espresso cup (the heart is still there) and then used a toothpick to mix the colours, kind of in a clumsy "wet in wet icing" style.
Exposure metering was set to "HI". I made minimal adjustments in post to make the colours pop a little more than they already did, and slightly brightened the background in the corners where the concave shape of the cup's underside had created a slight vignetting. That's it.
The heart's size is 2x2 cm / 0,78x0,78 inches.
HMM, Everyone, and have a nice week ahead!
P.S. I'm busy today and will catch up with you tonight.
Actually we went hiking but we took the Jeep to the trailhead. We made a put stop for a case of water.
I actually had to turn around to pull over on the side of the road to take this image.... I will never do that unless it is abandoned or like this one for sale. Living in the country myself I honestly would not like my home being photographed without my knowledge, so I try to always think about that over the past couple of years. This place had so much character and I enjoyed doing some landscape photography for a change of pace.
Actually, says Groningen's great horticulturalist Abraham Munting (1626-1683), no-one knows exactly what Windflower's proper season is. But with good care it will grow all year around.
I was happy to see it today in Shaffy's Tuin, just by Amsterdam's railroad tracks to the centre of the country and down south. Olymp was able to shoot our Herba venti though on its high stem it was swaying wildly back and forth.
Carolus Clusius (1526-1609) is said to have introduced this Anemone to western Europe on his return from Vienna when he became the director of Leiden's botanical garden. There's also a rather cute story about one Monsieur Bachelieu who around 1615 procured our flower and was so delighted by it that he jealously guarded it for his own pleasure. A decade or so later his friends discovered the clinging nature of its seeds and plucked them from their mantels after having left Bachelieu's garden. Then they grew their own flowers.
actually pronounced guru chela the ru in guru is rolled with the tongue a little bit.
it means the teacher and student are one
Actually, he's just napping. I'm working hard (to support those cute freckles) and the weather is warming up and colors are suddenly starting to appear outdoors so again, I'm disabling commenting.
Lol, actually this lovely nanna was helping what I guess to be her little grandson to wave jump. I have my outrageous hat on today because my mood isn't so good....Alas Beau my Golden Retriever has misplaced one of the two ancient teddies (well the lost one is a Lion actually but was soft and raggy ) the same as the old Teddy we purchased quickly for when I bought him home from the whelping pen. I rubbed both into his smelly fur and and he has suckled on one or the other over the ten years of his life... we have searched for days but can't find Lion anywhere. I woke at 4.30 am and at 6.30 am was almost sick with tiredness trying to think of new places to look. Even my son joined the search yesterday and both Jon and I resumed this morning. No Lion ........
Several hours later 4 worn knees ( I even knelt on the bar divider between a cloak room and hall and am limping badly. We are going to try the shed in a little while when we feel a little recovered…Beau keeps lying all morose in his dog bed in the kitchen 😞

Actually I don't know real the name of this creek that flows through the forest at Buttermilk Falls in New Jersey. A lady in the parking lot saw all our cameras and said she was sad nobody ever photographs this part of the scene because they are all looking at the huge waterfall across the road. She sounded so proud and satisfied with her observation that I didn't want to spoil it for her, but I had already taken this picture of the spot from above.
Actually it's not so easy for wildlife but anyone who decides to live in my garden has a much easier day to day way of life. This chipmunk spent his lazy summer days in the coolness of my fern last year. He would roll and cover himself with the cool damp soil and then rest. It was a good life.
Actually, Salisbury market place on a rainy evening in October. Salisbury is a stunning, historical town with much to commend it. However, it is still struggling with reduced visitor numbers after the novichok poisoning episode several years ago. I was standing in this market square looking at a signpost that gave distances to other Salisburys around the world and a local resident stopped to ask if I needed help, I told her I was just visiting and she actually thanked me for visiting. If you are passing and can spare the time Salisbury is worth a visit and you will be made welcome by residents and businesses alike.
This one actually makes me smile. I was out in a local town shooting a roll of film through a camera that I intended on selling just to make sure everything worked. There were some stairs going up to a parking lot on top of a building and I was looking at the stairs to see if there was a picture there to be had when these two young lads bustled past on their way up the stairs. They had noticed my camera and when they got to the top of the stairs one of them turned around and shouted down - did I want to take his picture. I laughed and said sure and he gave me that pose and "attitude" before laughing and running off.

Actually one of two cubs. Luluka is pretty well known around Masai Mara and her two cubs are certainly star attractions.
Here is one simply chillin' in the morning sun. Life is good eh?
Hot take: people actually LOVE judging other people… Quote by Mel Robbins.
I have really spent a lot of time considering what I want to achieve in 2025, and I have decided my theme for the year coming, is "The Let Them Theory" By Mel Robbins.
Two simple words—Let Them—will set you free. Free from the opinions, drama, and judgments of others. Free from the exhausting cycle of trying to manage everything and everyone around you. Mel Robbins.
I am so looking forward to my New Year, I am actually excited!, its been such a long time since I felt full, complete, ok with just being myself, and on my own. I think when we take control of our own health, we find a peace that is so rare, and fantastic, its hard to believe it belongs to us!
From my home to yours, Fam, and FLickRs, Please know I wish you all the best in 2025. I can't wait to hear everyone's fun at Christmas, and spend time with all my amazing pals. ♥

Actually the first Burr Truss covered bridge in Lehigh Valley that my sweet west coast damsel and I ventured to that October day last fall, ironic that it’s image would be the last of the three Burr Truss covered bridges that I post, located in Northampton Pennsylvania is the Kreidersville Covered Bridge, built back in 1839 over the Hokendauqua Creek. In 1959 a grass roots movements by the local citizens recognizing the historical significance of the vanishing covered bridges when the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation State Highway Department wanted to knock down the bridge replace it with a concrete bridge, banded together to save the 116 foot long Hummel's - Koch's - Solt's Bridge as it was then known, named after the families that resided near the bridge and organized & formed the ‘The Theodore Burr Covered Bridge Society of Pennsylvania’ named after the gentlemen whose patented truss design was used in the construction of this bridge and actually the other two which my west coast damsel and I visited on that day. The state has 250 of the remaining 1500 covered bridges left in the United States.

Actually managed a day out with my camera today, and had the chance to tick 2 locations off my ever-growing bucket list. This beautiful old abandoned church really tickled me, with the oak tree growing up through the middle. Unfortunately we were plagued with very harsh sunlight today, so a return trip is on the cards....;-)
Actually, I now believe this may be a Yellow Warbler. Due to two great Flikrites I actually did some looking in my bird book and came up with my best guess. I do at least know that it is not a Goldfinch. Cute though.
Actually ,this photoshoot at Bury on the East Lancs Railway...and of course going to see Rod Stewart after all these years , no picture of Rod , but , what else could I use on this picture but this ...
Dedicated to my Mum , she would ve loved that concert as I did .. it s a year tomorrow since she let go of her precious life .. 05/01/16
I actually took this (and a few other ornaments) to the beach but it was so overcast that I decided not to take photos. So they got a trip out, and a walk along the beach.
When I got back to town it was nicer, so I went to a park and had a little photo shoot there instead :-)
So I looked through my photostream today and saw how many beach related photos I've got. And at least a quarter of the 'non-beach related' ones actually were taken on the way too, from, or next to, a beach!
All these lovely little purple shells were found and carefully collected by me at Himatangi beach, NZ.

Actually not Elephant Ears at all, but Taro plants, which love it along the swampy shore of Lake Verret!
Well, after doing some research, I don't think these are Elephant Ears at all, but a close cousin, called Taro. Don't confuse the two, as one (Elephant Ear) is poisonous and the other is completely edible. Check out the link below...
www.mauijungalow.com/2012/03/taro-vs-elephant-ear-telling...
Not actually a tree but a member of the Agave family. Yucca brevfolia are the genus and species. This is the indicator plant for the Mojave Desert. Produces beautiful white flowers in the spring. Inedible fruits. Show with a Pentax 645 using a Pentax 75mm. Film was Arista 100 and developed in Rodinal at 1:50.
