It's been a weird old day today. Started with the rugby - hurrah for England and disappointment for Tonga and Scotland. England you really need to up your game unless France play how they did today.

Then, we took the kids roller skating as Aimee was going to a party - she was the only one out of the party kids that could skate, so the others spent most of the party time in the cafe!

I've had a bad neck since Thursday (maybe something to do with lying on the damp ground on Wednesday photographing fungi?!) and am still in pain. I'm self treating with exercise which does free it up a bit eventually, but 1st thing in the morning is agony. Ibuprofen and heat helping that stage of things.

It got to 9 30pm and still hadn't got any inspiration for a shot. Ideas are running thin now that I'm so far into my 365 - I'm sure I've photographed everything of any interest in my house! I took this shot messing about with the lighting (just a small torch) to try and get a strong contrast. I then increased the contrast levels in DPP (I know how to do that!) I like how you can see the texture of the cards.

Pumpkin Cake with Cinnamon Cream Cheese Icing.

My first real attempt at covering a cake in fondant. Man is the crumb coat crucial! What a pain in the butt. And, I didn't make a big enough sheet of fondant so I had a hard time smoothing out the wrinkles at the bottom. I also don't have a smoother or a big enough rolling pin. I guess getting those go on the to do list. I was inspired by Toni...s amazingly beautiful and complicated poker cake. I have a whole new appreciation for cakes now. You ladies are amazing!

A piece of creative photoshop work :)

The original photo was taken with the card held up by some blue-tack and lit by a single stobe with a DIY mini softbox on it and a relefector. this sounds like fancy (kinda) lighing but it's really just even lighting with out specular high lights :)

In photoshop i messed with the levels for complete white and black. Then i did some lighting effects and copyed that layer then gave it a 180 degrees spin for that cool red background. then a made about ten copys of the card layer and spin them using free transform. and finally lowed the opacity of the equally for the spiny effect. :)

The original photo was taken with the nikon D40 kit lens (18-55mm)

Technically this was a Sunday night creation whilst watching Sherlock and eating the last of the christmas chocolate.

I was back at work, so I knew that time would be against me, so I made this fella.

I was right about time though - it was just before 2300 when I managed to get the shot! Need sleep!

I got to shoot the Scream it like you mean it tour in Sacramento, which was also the 10th anniversary of SOTY's album page avenue, which they played the entire album throughout their set. Always awesome feeling seeing bands you liked ever since you started to really get into music.

Day 310 - November = Black.

This would probably looked much better and more authentic with a proper card table and some gambling chips - neither of which I own! Nevermind - maybe next year.

An Ode To Malcolm The Magician

Malcolm the magician lived in a pot of gold

His tricks were bad and getting old

He pulled some rabbits outta his hat

Then they scampered away and in his beard they sat

They were plenty fed and upon his scraps they ate

They liked the lettuce but their favourite was steak

See you next time.

Since the baby girl has started playing cards more, we seem to have an abundance of cards and other games in the house.

I'm not complaining - it's nice to see her excited about card and board games. These are two packs we have bought to make rummy a little bit harder (and to stop her from winning all the time).
