Una de las imĆ”genes que pude lograr de la Apolo posada sobre la orquĆdea Dactylorhiza maculata. Fotografiada al atardecer en El Valle de Aran (Lleida). Se trata de una hembra con el āsphragisā bien visible, cuyo tema ya he citado en alguna otra toma publicada.
En algunas especies, como Parnassius apollo y P. mnemosyne entre otras, los machos -tras la cĆ³pula- colocan a las hembras una sustancia que se solidifica denominada "sphragis", la cual tapa el acceso genital de la hembra de manera que impide el que se pueda aparear de nuevo con otro macho. GarantĆa de su estirpe?ā¦ En el momento de la puesta esa sustancia cede y permite la oviposiciĆ³n.

In the spirit of Sliders Sunday, I slid (slided? slud?) my editing program's Contrast Slider up to the max. I think this added appropriate drama to what is already a boldly designed street access cover. BTW, the sky was bright blue, so the reflected color is real.
The high contrast contributes to a fantasy mystery suggested by my caption. On the internet, I could not find a firm named Altkirch that makes cast iron street access covers. What does exist is the Alsatian village of Altkirch. It is about 25km from where this cover is located. An overactive imagination suggests that this cover marks the access to an underground passage between Mulhouse and Altkirch! I should go to Altkirch and see if I can find an access cover there that says "Mulhouse." Ah me. So many things to do, so little time.š

Images of doors fascinate me. Where do they lead? Would I be changed if I went through them? Is there a different world beyond? Why are they there?
This is a door within a door on a boathouse I spotted on my holiday in Newport Pembrokeshire last autumn, mangled for Sliders Sunday. I was looking for a highly textured grungy look emphasizing the pealing paint.
