According to the date stone on the gable end of this former farm cottage, it was built in 1668 - two years after the Great Fire of London. At the rear of the cottage is the farmyard, with outbuildings and an ancient barn which is home to a flock of doves. Instead of a dovecote, nesting holes are built into the side of the barn. The beautiful grade II-listed cottage is our home, while we also have a holiday home in the north of England near the border between Lancashire and Cumbria. This provides easy access to the Lake District and the Yorkshire Dales, both of which are a 30-minute drive away.

The edge of the rise prior to the sprawling Iron Age site of Ulaca is alive with vivid boulders. The shot is taken from before the sites final rise and so still high above the fluvial plane below. One has a throne carved into its top, and the way the natural mineral erratic's, some visible on the horizon of this image, are 'appropriated' by culture and passage coheres with other iron age sites in the greater area.
The site features a sauna, and as you sit in its two well worn stone-carved chairs (see later), aside the larger and still steamy 'changing room', you 'hear' the conviviality and sweat of a pre Roman spirit of cleanliness and pride. The sauna is a practical space that is described on Wiki Fr as an 'initiation' space. If a community of a sample 500 people each use the facility once a week, then everyone could access for 30 minutes for just a 12 hour day, perhaps not the best description of the concept of 'initiation'. Likewise for Wiki Fr, the site's monolithic stairs (see below) are described as being there for 'sacrifices'. Stairs do exist with summits used for sacrifice, but this vivid explanation adds a cold breath over other possible usages, from a meeting point for local 'bigmen' from the valley below, to a vivid waiting space for pre Gladiator specialist warriors; a meeting point for traders, to a loci for spiritual rites of passage and an arena for speech, specific oratory and controlled song - and indeed many of the above according to context and time and date.
The shot is a montage using a Takumar 35mm at the first bounce of dawn. The exposure has been brightened a tad to return the image to my memory of the light.

While in Kamloops, BC I spent some time out by the CP Rail yards and a trestle bridge. This shot has the distant land mass floating in the sky while the train bridge serves as it's only access.
La Isla Pancha es un islote que se ubica en la punta noreste de Ribadeo, en la desembocadura del Río Eo. De superficie limitada, ocupa casi 1 hectárea y, aunque en ella se levantan dos faros (uno de ellos pintado de blanco y azul, datado de 1860) lo más probable es que no se pueda acceder ni al faro ni a la isla en general debido a que está unida a la costa por un puente que la mayoría de las veces se encuentra cerrado. Pese a ello, cabe destacar que la vista es mucho más hermosa desde el mirador que desde el faro.
En cuanto emprendemos camino por la carretera del Faro (la cual se señaliza como "Estrada do Faro") se presenta ante nosotros una impresionante panorámica de la Ría, con Figueras y Castropol de fondo.
Pancha Island
is an islet that is located at the northeastern tip of Ribadeo, at the mouth of the Eo River. With a limited area, it occupies almost 1 hectare and, although two lighthouses stand on it (one of them painted white and blue, dating from 1860), it is most likely that neither the lighthouse nor the island in general can be accessed due to because it is linked to the coast by a bridge that is closed most of the time. Despite this, it should be noted that the view is much more beautiful from the viewpoint than from the lighthouse.
As soon as we set off along the Faro road (which is signposted as "Estrada do Faro"), an impressive panoramic view of the Ría appears before us, with Figueras and Castropol in the background.
