Finally recovered from being sick and was able to go out and find some foliage yesterday - I explored Olmsted Park, Jamaica Pond, and the Arboretum. Fall color is starting to get going, though most of the trees were still green.
I'm sad that I missed my planned hike in New Hampshire a week ago due to illness, but now that I'm recovered I can try to find fall color in the Boston area. I have a whole list of places to try and it's hard to decide between them - if you see any particularly good spots, let me know!
Ya I really like this thing. There isn't really any one angle that can capture the whole thing but whatever this is good enough.
Sorry about inactivity
Also I passed 1K followers so I guess that's pretty cool...Thanks guys!
The Redshank is one of the few Meadowbirds that are thriving in the Netherlands. Somehow it has found a niche and is able to breed in this industrialized agricultural landscape. I wish the same could happen for our Godwits, Snipes, Plover, Lapwings, Skylarks, etc. The numbers of the these birds keep on dropping unfortunately. Arnhem, Netherlands.
During summer this is part of a popular bicycle route that is taken by sometimes hundreds of cyclists a day. Today I had it all to myself... partly because it's getting a bit cold, partly because half a kilometer down the road the pavement is actually submerged due to seasonal floods; usually there's just meadows left and right. Luckily I was still able to follow the road (plus my tires got a nice wash in the process).
But I've got a feeling that I think I will always rage against it.
No matter the trials and tribulations that we all endure one way or another, I for one will rage and fight to be able to view this beautiful dying of the day's light.
Clear skies during the night of 25 - 26th March meant I was able to turn my telescope to Canes Venatici and image for the first time, the Whale and Hockey Stick galaxies.
This lovely galaxy pair (actually 3 galaxies as the Whale is accompanied by a dwarf galaxy, NGC 4627) are high in the sky at this time of year in the Northern Hemisphere.
The Whale Galaxy (NGC 4631) is an edge on spiral galaxy. It appears slightly distorted due to gravitational interaction with its dwarf companion galaxy NGC 4627 (visible just above the whale). This distorted wedge shape gives the galaxy the appearance of a whale or herring - complete with "pectoral fin" projecting out from on end!
Both NGC 4631 & NGC 4627 are included in the Arp Catalogue of Peculiar Galaxies as Arp 281.
They lie at a distance of 25-30 million light years away.
The Hockey Stick Galaxy, NGC 4656/4657, also known as The Crowbar Galaxy, is a highly warped barred spiral system. The warped appearance, leading to its name, is believed to be due to the interactions between the Hockey Stick and Whale Galaxy and the latter's companion dwarf system.
The Hockey Stick galaxy lies at a distance of around 30 million light years.

Last shorebird shot for now, and it goes back three years, when I was able to approach this Hudsonian Godwit on foot along the shore of Reed Lake. Unlike the more commonly seen Marbled Godwit, this bird stops only briefly in our area, during its impossibly long migration from the southern tip of South America to its breeding grounds in the Canadian Arctic and Alaska. It is reputed to fly thousands of miles without stopping, some of it over open ocean. Birds are amazing!
I have a new set ready for tomorrow; today I'm off on a combined supply run and bird shoot. Meanwhile I'm trying to get the last of my garden planted - everything happens at once in Saskatchewan. And I'm involved in another video project this summer, making a series of short films about the wild prairie ecosystems here, My friend George Tsougrianis of Overtime Communications in Swift Current will be here for several weeks, beginning Monday, and we hope to get a good percentage of our shooting done over the next two to three weeks. Will try to keep an ongoing presence on Flickr during this period, but I may be absent some days. Am pushing very hard for 36 hour days, but so far having no luck convincing the authorities to help me with this.

This will prolly be the last post I will be able to do before I fly out for my vacation. So here is a lil something I put together using some new releases from a couple of my sponsors. Grazed and EERIE.. Enjoy

Someone should be able to find the living God in Scripture—and this is His word—and then lead others to find him there, and all theology properly ends in contemplation and love and union with God—not ideas about Him and a set of rules about how to wear your hat. The Mass is the center of everything and in so far as it is Calvary it is the center of Scripture and the key to everything—history, everything. All the trouble going on now. (11.27.49 RJ 172)

You may not be able to see it, but this the entrance to a cemetery. It's just off a summer road in the Palouse region of Washington. The wheat is just coming up (it's June), and while the road isn't dry, it's dry enough to drive without fear of sliding off into the field.
I first discovered this cemetery by accident while wandering down various dirt roads. I looked to my right as I was passing by and I saw gravestone on a hill. From that angle, I couldn't see the lane or how to get inside.
This is fairly common out there. Abandoned cemeteries may be visible from the main road, but the lane leading to them have been plowed under. In the off season, you might be able to make out the old trace, but it's understood that the cemetery is now an inaccessible island.
Fortunately and obviously that was not the case here. The lane is sort of hidden, but obvious once you see it.
Most of the graves are from the late 1800s/early 1900s (the first in 1878), though the most recent was in 2018 (with a few in the 1980s).

I had to bring a little Daphne indoors to scent the house. I wish I could post the frangrance to you.
Thank you everyone so much for sharing your quality photos which is a great way to see and keep in touch with the world from home. Also for your kind comments and favours which are much valued. I am not able to take on any more members to follow or to post to groups. I prefer not to receive invites to groups
Continuing on the theme, able to take the M5 and split between the northern part and southern part of the Rockies (Canadian and Colorado). This was the last roll until I had to send the camera away for a full CLA and meter repair, for which it was clearly due being in the wild for sometime. Lots of hiking but well worth it. Most of the time was overcast but did the best I could to capture with suboptimal light. I was inspired as usual with the flickeranians who do so well in the most trying of conditions - thanks for the continued inspiration!
Today I was able to escape work early and see some DAYLIGHT! Man these days are getting dark quick. Of course we are getting some very wet, rainy weather but that just means lots of puddles to find life in. Here we have a double shot of Jezyce. Well, one shot but well, you know...puddles providing some fun depth.

I appreciated her attempt at hiding in the foliage, but I was able to get this shot off before she flew.
Being able to walk the shoreline nearly every day provides an enlightening perspective on natural cycles of change.
I don't think it's good for our mental health to grow up in a world of static flat rectangles. It disconnects us from the spirit of the universe.
By brushing past a patch of nettles I was able to get close enough to this individual to get a decent image with my macro lens. I've found that Banded Demoiselles don't tolerate a particularly close approach and, although they often perch in prominent positions, they nevertheless select locations surrounded by natural barriers such as water, nettles and thistles. So wet feet and stings up the leg are normally part of the price of a decent image!
Throughout the fog, I was able to capture a few good images of the close conjunction of the Moon, Venus and Regulus on September 19, 2025. The image was taken with a Canon R6 mark II and a Canon 200 mm f/2.8L II lens. I spent about a half hour imaging Comet C/2025 A6 (Lemmon) and turned my attention the the moon and Venus near the end of astronomical twilight before sunrise. The earthshine was really dramatic this morning!
An unusually decorated plane taking off from Duxford yesterday.
My first aviation photo session of the year.
In glorious weather, I was able to try out my recently acquired Canon R5 Mk II with some slow shutter-speed panning shots, and was very happy with the outcome. Even better, I can't detect any 'rolling shutter' effect from the electronic shutter, a definite improvement over the R5 Mk I.
This aircraft is now registered G-OALZ, presumably to some football fan, and I was told that the plane originated from Ukraine, although I don't know the story behind that.

This is in Venice one of the many windows where the locals wash there laundry. I was lucky that I was able to get the girl hanging the stuff out. I dont think she was too impressed with me for taking the picture.
I was able to grab a few full body shots through the next, closed window. Of course, as I attempted to open it, the hawk departed, having realized that the songbirds had all dispersed anyway.
The world has gone mad.. people not able to get basic items cause others choose to hoard.. this includes medication. Today I learned my daughters life saving medication is on back order and there is no guarantee when the next shipment will be.. yes shit got real for me and no amount of toilet paper will fix it.

In Ukraine, the red oak is classified as an alien (invasive) tree species that is prohibited from being planted for forest restoration. Having no natural enemies, it is able to change or destroy entire ecosystems.

I haven’t been able to go out and work on my night time series for the past several weeks. But my camera still calls to me, so I’ve returned to the studio, so to speak, to shoot flowers. I decided to use light painting. The result is really an eclectic mix of styles. Each day, I ran with whatever idea came to me, and improvised as I went along. So this is more an odds and sods collection than a series of thematically connected images. There has been a lot of discards along the way, but enough keepers to start posting. It is keeping me engaged, and I hope to soon get back out under night skies.

This from Hein van Grouw of the Natural History Museum in London:
"As the bird is clearly not a juvenile, so in other words; this bird is independent and able to source its own food, it must be an Ino rather than an Albino. Albino birds have a very poor eye sight due to the total lack of melanin pigment in their eyes. In Inos there is still a little bit melanin left, in both the eyes and the plumage. In the plumage this pale coloured melanin rapidly bleaches further in the sun light and soon the bird appears to be fully white. The remaining melanin in the eyes, however, is enough to keep a proper eye sight and therefore Ino birds do not have a problem with their vision and often survive very well for a long time.
I knew about an Ino Long-eared owl who lived for years in a certain area (in the Netherlands) and even reared a nest of youngsters every year."
I was able to find this very airplane on the Web. This aircraft has a 225 hp Jacobs L-4 engine and only 25 of the YKS-6 were manufactured. They were built in Troy Ohio between 1920 and 1947. They build models for both CIVIL aviation and some special models for military applications like maritime patrol aircraft. This restored example in 85 years old and this is one example of 126 Standard Cabin series that are still air worthy.

Yes, I am aware that people hate dandelions and photos of them and for that I am sorry. However, I could not resist photographing this one as it was getting illuminated directly which totally isolated it. Luckily, I was able to get it in focus while there was a lull in the breeze.
Oftentimes, we find our attention is pulled to the next loud or shiny thing. It is nice to take a moment to look for the good and beauty whereever we may find it. Thanks for stopping by.

Unfortunately, I wasn't able to find any wild Snake's Head Fritillary local to me, so I decided to buy one. A bit of a cheat, but a good excuse to try out my new macro lens. As a true photographer, I sprayed some water on the flower to add to the macro goodness. I was relatively pleased with the results, but wanted something a bit more, so I decided to fire off some shots whilst spraying and play around with the shutter speed. I chose this shot because I really like how the water is bouncing off the flower and the soft bokeh it creates in the background.
Yesterday I was able to spend some time in my favorite place, the forest. The forest is where I go to unwind, think, and relax. Nature is my happy place. There's always little surprises if you're paying attention, and this was one of those gifts from nature along with several others in this collection.
This species of dried flower is known as Valantia cucullaris. I hope you enjoy.
This poor Carolina Wren was molting pretty bad when I came across it. It didn't deter it from singing some wonderful songs, though. I was happy to be able to get relatively close and catch a few photos before it flew on to a new spot.

Thankfully dodging ExtremePadreFan and some of the other Fullerton regulars, I was able to click several BNSF, Amtrak, and Metrolink trains on a pleasant March afternoon. While not the most scenic spot in the world, one cannot deny Fullerton is a very busy place.

Madison made it home this year to spend the Christmas Holiday with us. We had a wonderful dinner with Mom and Dad, and Madison was able to get puppy kisses from my parent's neighbor's puppy, Molly.
Now, look at Molly's body, nice and black, but her head has a blue smear on it. That is from my 50 mm lens. It is intermediate. It did not show up until these shots that were taken outside, went away the next day, and then came back when I took some photos indoors. I would like to say there is a finger print on the lens, but I don't see anything. I will probably get a new one at some point, but I like this one. Maybe I will find a used one at a local shop.
Anyway, give the ones you love a puppy kiss on the nose. Peace out girl scouts.
Water is powerful! Especially when connected to a lot of other water!
Nothing will be able to stand in the way when enough people of common sense push back against the poisoning of life on Earth. Out of the deep sea, and out of deep grief, there can suddenly come thundering tidal waves that surprise in their power! That is my hope.
The title is, of course, a quote from Bruce Lee. "Water can flow or it can crash. Be water, my friend."

Is Canada Run By Criminals For Criminals:
www.youtube.com/watch?v=fkKjkBnsj6Y
Many of us have been warning about this over the years, but on a global scale. If you look into the World Bank, the International Monetary Fund, and the Bank for International Settlements, along with the many tentacles involved with them, it starts to become more and more obvious that the world is run by criminals for criminals. How about the United Nations? Or how about Black Rock, Vanguard, and State Street? Or how about the gun smuggling, drug trafficking CIA? How come intelligence agencies have steered our culture through TV, movies, news, music, art, and propaganda? The whole LGBTQ and transgender thing is not organic. It has been pumped with all kinds of money from banks, billionaires, non-governmental organizations, corporations, and governments (public-private partnerships). How many wars in my lifetime were organic? Were strings being pulled in such a way as to prod things towards war? Should we mention how things are being steered towards digital IDs, biometrics, Central Bank Digital Currencies, Social Credit Scores, Universal Basic Income, and 15-minute cities? What if we add advances in artificial intelligence, machine learning, and quantum computing? What about computer-brain interfaces? But there is no merit in what I have said for the naive and lazy. For the ignorant, it is just conspiracy theories.
Yet the Bible warns that in the end there will be widespread sexual immorality. It also warns of an authoritarian system that will be linked to the economy. However, in a post-Christian (antichrist) culture, this stuff is all laughable.
2 Timothy 3:7 “Always learning but never able to come to a knowledge of the truth.”
