Welcome to Piran, the most beautiful and most impressive city of Mediterranean. Also called the pearl of the Mediterranean. Piran is a city in southwestern Slovenia on the Gulf of Piran on the Adriatic Sea. It is one of the three major towns of Slovenian Istria. The city resembles a large open-air museum, with medieval architecture and a rich cultural heritage. Narrow streets and compact houses give the town its special charm. In the pre-Roman era, the hills in the Piran area were inhabited by the Illyrian Histri tribes. These were farmers, hunters and fishermen. They were also pirates who disrupted Roman trade in the north Adriatic Sea. An ancient coastal town with a picturesque old town core. Of all the towns on the Slovene coast, Piran as a whole has the most original town architecture, with a partly preserved town wall with seven mighty towers, a symbol of the past power and pride of the city. In the centre of the town is Tartini’s Square with a bronze monument of the famous violinist and composer Giuseppi Tartini. Piran is the birthplace of composer and violinist Giuseppe Tartini, who played an important role in shaping its cultural heritage.

Piran in Slovenia is one of the best preserved historical towns on the Adriatic with narrow alleys and Venetian Gothic architecture. Photo taken of the Third Town Wall from the Tower viewer. The first wall was built in the 7th century while the 2nd and 3th phases of enlargement between 1470 and 1533. Large parts of the fortification walls remain well-preserved up to now. The third fortification wall protected the whole peninsula.

Welkom in Piran, het mooiste plaatsje aan de Middellandse Zee. Piran is één van de drie havensteden van Slovenië, dat slechts een kleine kuststrook van ongeveer 50 kilometer in Istrië heeft. Piran ligt aan de Baai van Piran, die deel uitmaakt van de Adriatische Zee. Istrië erft zijn naam van een Illyrische stam de Histri, Strabo verwees naar hen als de bewoners van deze landstreek. De Romeinen kenden ze als een woeste Illyrische stam van piraten, voor wie de rotsige kust een natuurlijke bescherming bood. Na twee Romeinse invallen gaven de Histri pas toe, in 117 v.Chr. Piran is een oude Mediterrane stad. In de oude binnenstad is een rijke geschiedenis terug te vinden zoals de nauwe steegjes, romantische pleintjes, de compacte huizen zoals het Venetiaanse Huis Benečanka, de middeleeuwse architectuur en een openluchtmuseum. In deze mooie stad vind je huizen met een Gotische & Klassicistische bouwstijl. Het prachtigste bouwwerk is ongetwijfeld de klokkentoren van de Georgiuskathedraal. Verder is er het prachtige plein Tartinjev trg met het standbeeld van Giuseppe Tartini, de Sint Petruskerk en de haven. Ter viering van de 200 jaar Tartini wilden de inwoners van Piran een monument ter nagedachtenis aan Tartini. De Venetiaanse kunstenaar Antonia dal Zotto mocht het bronzen standbeeld van de maestro maken, in 1896 werd het standbeeld op een voetstuk in Piran neergezet. The Cíes Islands are an archipelago off the coast of Pontevedra in Galicia (Spain), in the mouth of the Ría de Vigo. They belong to the parish of San Francisco de Afora, in the municipality of Vigo. They were declared a Nature Reserve in 1980 and are included in the Atlantic Islands of Galicia National Park (Parque Nacional Marítimo-Terrestre das Illas Atlánticas de Galicia) created in 2002. In the year 2007, the British newspaper The Guardian chose the beach of Rodas, in the island of Monteagudo, as the "most beautiful beach of the world" (Wikipedia).

Las islas Cíes, pertenecientes al municipio de Vigo, forman un archipiélago situado en la boca de la ría del mismo nombre, en las Rías Bajas gallegas, en la Provincia de Pontevedra (España), formado por tres islas: Norte o Monteagudo, Del Medio o do Faro y Sur o San Martiño. Las dos primeras se encuentran unidas artificialmente por una escollera. Están orientadas según un sistema de fracturas paralelo a la costa en dirección N-S. Distan aproximadamente 14,5 km de la ciudad de Vigo. Fueron declaradas parque natural en 1980, y están incluidas en el Parque Nacional de las Islas Atlánticas de Galicia creado en 2002.

En febrero del año 2007 el periódico británico The Guardian eligió la playa de Rodas, en la isla de Monteagudo, como "la mejor playa del mundo" (Wikipedia).

I've shot Sunset at Westminster before. I've even shot sunset here in black and white. Still, I never tire of this location, which is why, when Greg was in town and suggested a photowalk, we started here. The plan was to do more walking, but the sun and light were so good here that we stayed for about two hours shooting.

Sorry if I haven't been commenting on your photos recently; I've been very busy with meetings and conferences and travel. I'm also starting training again after a couple of months off due to illness and injury. For those that don't know, I do self-defence, mixed martial arts and brazilian jiu-jitsu and teach Urban Krav Maga. I'll try and make more time to see all your work though.

Speaking of travel, are any of my followers in Croatia or Slovenia? I'm heading to Zagreb and Ljubljana in a few weeks and it would be good to meet up or at least get some tips on good locations.

I had to go out tonight and shoot the amazing clouds I saw from my window, and I hoped for a spectacular sunset. I went for 3 locations in one evening session: Starting at the border of Spangen plus Van Nelle Factory (again) biking like mad in the direction of (old/oud) Overschie (above) and after that around blue hour another visit to Kleinpolderplein, traffic junction annex swamp. This is the first upload of a lovely evening. Have a great week, make it worthwhile. Ta!

Il mio primo tentativo nel campo dell'astrofotografia: ritratta la Galassia di Andromeda con le altre due galassie ellittiche vicine, M32 e M110.

Cielo con molto inquinamento luminoso e galassia lontana dallo zenit: tra qualche settimana riproverò in condizioni più favorevoli.

Piccola curiosità: la distanza che ci separa dalla Galassia di Andromeda è di circa 2 milioni e 400mila anni luce. Quindi la luce che ho catturato con una moderna macchina fotografica è partita da Andromeda quando l'uomo sulla Terra non esisteva ancora, ma erano presenti solo alcune colonie di ominidi nel cuore dell'Africa. ;)

I took this natural light portrait of Beautiful Faun Anna Von Winter yesterday in front of the carousel at Freestone park in Gilbert Arizona with a Canon 5D Mark II camera and Canon EF 135mm F/2L lens shot wide open at F/2 just before sunset.

It’s been an amazing journey merging my two worlds of F.R.I.E.N.D.s through this project. I really feel like I’ve given so much of myself by sharing these portraits with all of you, my F.R.I.E.N.D. s from all over the world. I’m sure you know me a lot better now. I wanna thank each and everyone who took the time to view my work over this year...each and every comment was extremely appreciated. As you’ve learned, friendship is, for me, one of the greatest treasures we can have in this life, and I feel like a millionaire to have made so many wonderful F.R.I.E.N.D. s in here. Thank you all for the gift of your faithful friendship

I will now take a break from flickr, but I hope to find all of you again here, soon. When I come back , I’ll have many more things to share, and maybe a bit more of my F.R.I.E.N.D.s.

Este edificio fue construido alrededor del siglo X, y en su origen se trataba de una mezquita musulmana que fue transformada en templo cristiano en el siglo XIII. Volvió a ser transformada en varias ocasiones en siglos posteriores, hasta una última restauración que se llevó a cabo en 1943.

Este castillo de estilo gótico tiene una torre del homenaje de planta octogonal, bajo la que se cobija el sagrario de la interesante iglesia gótica erigida por Alfonso X en la plaza de Armas, que fue construida en ladrillo por mudéjares, lo que hizo creer se trataba de una antigua mezquita. El edificio es un recinto rectangular flanqueado por ocho torres. Todas ellas poseen decoración almohade, están rematadas por almenas en picos y presentan antiguos signos de canteros en sus zonas bajas. El conjunto se rodea de una muralla o cerca no muy alta.

The Diavolezza (in the local variant of Italian, She-Devil) is a mountain in the area of Pontresina in Graubünden. It has a height of 2978 m and is located southeast of Munt Pers (3207 m).

The mountain can be reached by cable car from Val Bernina, the Bernina Pass valley. At the base station of the cable car on 2093 m there is a train station (on the Bernina line of the Rhaetian Railway (RhB)). At the summit, there is a restaurant with a panoramic terrace, as well as a hotel offering both hotel-class and bunk-style accommodations.

today, me, Prashanth n Venu went to this awesome garden called "Landscape garden" inside Osmania Univ. campus it was full of flowers bloom after the rainy season..bend down almost to the ground to take this shot..hope its worth trying!! :)

Y ahora a título personal os digo que he pasado un día precioso de esos que jamás se olvidan y por supuesto tampoco se olvida uno de todos los compañeros que habéis estado ahí. No fue el mejor día ya que el tiempo no acompaño y el amanecer no quiso darnos los buenos días y ya a la tarde la niebla nos jugó una mala pasada y no hemos podido subir al Sueve. Pero también digo que ahora que ya todo paso no cambio absolutamente nada ya que el día en vuestra compañía ha sido lo mejor y eso es lo que verdaderamente tiene valor para mí y ya en la comida todos juntos a parte de los ricos manjares que nos sirvieron ese momento tan agradable y en camaradería, buen ambiente y buenas conversaciones ha sido el momento inolvidable del día.

Bueno compañeros ya deciros desde ahora mismo que os espero para el año que viene, que empezaremos ya a mirar que se puede hacer y que intentaremos que sea mejor que esta y le pondremos huevos a Santa Clara o a quien haga falta para que el tiempo nos acompañe eh jajaaa

After a short break from Flickr, here is another shot from the street shopping in Siem Reap. Being a Buddhist nation, you will find all sorts of Buddha painting and artifacts in the market.

I love using my 50mm f1.8 when I go on the street because it gives me a lot of interesting opportunities like this but of course to do the entire range of street captures you need to be really equipped with many different lenses and I'm still in the infant stages when it comes to that. Hopefully some day I will have all the equipment that I desire.

Although not a great HDR photo, I do like this image results because it is quite difficult to find 15 or so cowboys all standing still in one frame. Here most of them are as they were awaiting the calf roping event at the Manitoba Stampede.

Set on a hill 130 meters high, the area of Montmartre looks grandly out over all of Paris. The name "Montmartre" comes from "Mont des Martyrs" (the bishop St. Denis, the priest Rustique, and the archdeacon Eleuthère were all decapitated there around the year 250). In the 12th century, Benedictine monks built a monastery near Rue des Abesses. It later became the seat of a powerful abbey.

The Montmartre area was the center of a lot of activity during the Paris Commune in 1871. Despite the resistance of the people of Montmartre, the area remained under Federal control from March 18 until May 23.

The end of the 19th century saw Montmartre to be the center of artistic life in Paris and the model of a free, bohemian existence. Many artists, from Berlioz to Picasso, lived, worked, and played here. These creative spirits (and their café, the Lapin Agile) helped keep this area the city's intellectual and artistic center up until the first World War.

Starry night sky and Milky Way over Jackson Lake and the Tetons, Grand Teton National Park. The mountain peak to the right of the Milky Way is the Grand Teton. The largest mountain is Mount Moran. The large star to the left of the Grand Teton is Antares. The large star above Mount Moran is Arcturus. This photo was taken near midnight. The glow to the bottom left of the Milky Way is light pollution from the town of Jackson, WY, about 25 miles away. Reflecting on the wonderful time we had last week with our young friend from France. That is of course Sylvain in the middle and another very good friend Jim who accompanied us for a full day of touring.

This is the image we saw while gazing into Roblins Donuts in Gimli MB. I am looking a bit dorky here but am glad the others have a smile..:-)
