Some cities like Bergen (Norway), Paris (France) and even Marrakech (Morocco) make it very easy to get lovely cityscapes. London (England) not so much. Every high vantage point is either an incredibly expensive, booked-out tourist trap or an incredibly expensive, booked-out restaurant.
I really wish London was more photographic friendly. Other places are proud of their cityscape and I feel that London should follow suit. In the meantime, you just have to be more resourceful. This photo is best viewed large (press L) to appreciate all the detail. Go on, give it a go.
I am at a conference today, so I shall not be on Flickr.

Another shot from the recent holiday in Turkey. One for lightbox, really, if you want to bring out some interesting distant light trails as the taller yachts come into harbour. Göcek is a super place for long exposure shots of an evening, as it is full of boards, posts, walls and other improvised tripods. This was taken on just such a wall.
Much of Göcek is given over to yachts (in the discreetly named "Mega Yacht Super Marina"), but in middle of everything this quirkly little plank pier still stands to moor small local craft. Ten minutes after the last boat trip gets back in you see a little swarm of pancake, ice cream and similar vessels all dock here - having spent the day pursuing the tourist fleet like seagulls (with an inverted business model).
My favourite part of the image is the funny underwater sail suggested by the reflected lights to the left. It's not as pronounced as I'd hoped, yet I also like the way the blur of the boats diminishes as you move back in the frame. Hope everyone's having a great week!

Este edificio fue construido alrededor del siglo X, y en su origen se trataba de una mezquita musulmana que fue transformada en templo cristiano en el siglo XIII. Volvió a ser transformada en varias ocasiones en siglos posteriores, hasta una última restauración que se llevó a cabo en 1943.
Este castillo de estilo gótico tiene una torre del homenaje de planta octogonal, bajo la que se cobija el sagrario de la interesante iglesia gótica erigida por Alfonso X en la plaza de Armas, que fue construida en ladrillo por mudéjares, lo que hizo creer se trataba de una antigua mezquita. El edificio es un recinto rectangular flanqueado por ocho torres. Todas ellas poseen decoración almohade, están rematadas por almenas en picos y presentan antiguos signos de canteros en sus zonas bajas. El conjunto se rodea de una muralla o cerca no muy alta.

Parmi les deux randonnées que j'ai eu le plaisir de faire au Mont Cenis, l'ascension du Mont Giusalet (3312m ) reste un excellent souvenir .Ce fut l'occasion d'une sortie hors sentier et donc sauvage au cours de laquelle nous avons débusqué une harde de bouquetins , découvert de sublimes lacs , et nos regards se sont échappés vers ces lignes de crêtes aux sommets escarpés...
Au Lac Blanc ( 2638m ) une vue panoramique sur la Pointe de Ronce , la Pointe du Lamet et Rochemelon ; la linaigrette qui orne ce lac a une fleur blanche qui laisse place rapidement aux fruits ,ceux ci sont formés de nombreuses et longues soies blanches , cotonneuses...
Que du bonheur...!!

Porto (en portugais [u'poɾtu], «portou ») est une ville du Portugal de 237 559 habitants et environ 1,8 million pour le Grand Porto (chiffres 2011), ce qui en fait la seconde agglomération du pays après Lisbonne. Les deux villes ont souvent rivalisé par le passé. Elle est connue pour le vin de Porto, ses monuments et ses ponts sur le Douro. Porto, de par son histoire de négoce du vin avec le Royaume-Uni, semble avoir été influencée par ce pays et par une activité commerciale importante. Un adage évoque le caractère des différentes villes portugaises : « Pendant que Lisbonne se fait belle, Coimbra étudie, Braga prie et Porto travaille ».
Les habitants de Porto sont appelés Portuenses (en français, on dit « portuan ») et ne pas confondre avec Tripeiros (en référence à la spécialité locale, les tripes à la mode de Porto et l'histoire des habitants). Les Portistas sont les supporters du plus grand club de la ville le FC Porto. Située au nord du Portugal sur la façade atlantique et sur le rio Douro, Porto est la capitale de la région Nord, sous-région ; Grande Porto, district de Porto et la Grande Aire Métropolitaine de Porto (GAM). La GAM de Porto inclut, entre autres, les municipalités de Vila Nova de Gaia, Matosinhos, Maia, Espinho, Santa Maria da Feira, São João da Madeira, Vila do Conde, Póvoa de Varzim, Valongo, Gondomar.

Selon la légende, Cale, l'un des argonautes grecs arrive sur le site de l'embouchure du Douro et fonde la ville. Mais le choix du site n'est pas approprié à la navigation.

En 1096, Alphonse VI de Castille l'octroie à sa fille naturelle Thérèse, mariée avec Henri de Bourgogne. Leur fils, Alphonse Henri, est le premier souverain portugais.
En 1415, sous l'égide d'Henri le Navigateur (un des illustres fils de la ville), une importante expédition est mise sur pied pour la prise de Ceuta. La ville d'O Porto, chargée de l'approvisionnement de la flotte royale, est alors lourdement mise à contribution et doit se démunir de la plupart de ses vivres. Après le départ des soldats, les habitants doivent se contenter des aliments restants, soit les tripes et les abats, difficiles à conserver lors de campagnes militaires. C'est ainsi que par la suite le qualificatif de tripeiros (mangeurs de tripes) est utilisé pour désigner les habitants de Porto.[réf. nécessaire]

Y ahora a título personal os digo que he pasado un día precioso de esos que jamás se olvidan y por supuesto tampoco se olvida uno de todos los compañeros que habéis estado ahí. No fue el mejor día ya que el tiempo no acompaño y el amanecer no quiso darnos los buenos días y ya a la tarde la niebla nos jugó una mala pasada y no hemos podido subir al Sueve. Pero también digo que ahora que ya todo paso no cambio absolutamente nada ya que el día en vuestra compañía ha sido lo mejor y eso es lo que verdaderamente tiene valor para mí y ya en la comida todos juntos a parte de los ricos manjares que nos sirvieron ese momento tan agradable y en camaradería, buen ambiente y buenas conversaciones ha sido el momento inolvidable del día.
Bueno compañeros ya deciros desde ahora mismo que os espero para el año que viene, que empezaremos ya a mirar que se puede hacer y que intentaremos que sea mejor que esta y le pondremos huevos a Santa Clara o a quien haga falta para que el tiempo nos acompañe eh jajaaa

After a short break from Flickr, here is another shot from the street shopping in Siem Reap. Being a Buddhist nation, you will find all sorts of Buddha painting and artifacts in the market.
I love using my 50mm f1.8 when I go on the street because it gives me a lot of interesting opportunities like this but of course to do the entire range of street captures you need to be really equipped with many different lenses and I'm still in the infant stages when it comes to that. Hopefully some day I will have all the equipment that I desire.

Although not a great HDR photo, I do like this image results because it is quite difficult to find 15 or so cowboys all standing still in one frame. Here most of them are as they were awaiting the calf roping event at the Manitoba Stampede.

Set on a hill 130 meters high, the area of Montmartre looks grandly out over all of Paris. The name "Montmartre" comes from "Mont des Martyrs" (the bishop St. Denis, the priest Rustique, and the archdeacon Eleuthère were all decapitated there around the year 250). In the 12th century, Benedictine monks built a monastery near Rue des Abesses. It later became the seat of a powerful abbey.
The Montmartre area was the center of a lot of activity during the Paris Commune in 1871. Despite the resistance of the people of Montmartre, the area remained under Federal control from March 18 until May 23.
The end of the 19th century saw Montmartre to be the center of artistic life in Paris and the model of a free, bohemian existence. Many artists, from Berlioz to Picasso, lived, worked, and played here. These creative spirits (and their café, the Lapin Agile) helped keep this area the city's intellectual and artistic center up until the first World War.

Last Friday, Jackie and I tossed the tent and sleeping bags into the car and headed out on a last minute, impromptu road trip. We've contemplated the idea of a Lake Michigan Circle Tour all summer long ... and with summer winding down ... the fact that we didn't get any real beach time ... and needing to get out of this house ... a road trip along the lake shore seemed like the ideal trip! And it certainly was! The weather was PERFECT! Beautiful warm, sunny days ... cool nights ... and no rain! Sleeping under the stars and roasting hotdogs on the fire ... HEAVEN!
We spent the first couple of nights in Baileys Harbor on the Door Peninsula in Wisconsin. We drove over to Whitefish Dunes State Park the first morning and lounged on the beach all day! We brought a cooler with lunch and tasty beverages; read books and soaked up some well needed sun!! It was heavenly to unplug and get back to nature.
I am driving back to Michigan today to meet up with an old High School chum for Labor Day Weekend. What are your plans?

The large star to the left of the Grand Teton is Antares. The large star above Mount Moran is Arcturus. This photo was taken near midnight. The glow to the bottom left of the Milky Way is light pollution from the town of Jackson, WY, about 25 miles away. The story of this photo:
This is the first image from my recent trip to the German Alps. Moreover, it is the first image I upload that was taken with my new Nikkor lens. I replaced my Sigma 10-20 lens with the Nikon 10-24 lens due to a lack of sharpness. This investment paid off. Go here to follow the discussion on this switch.
The news continue: For the first time, I am providing the original source files for everybody to download and work with. If you'd like to check how your processing style looks with this image, go ahead, download the source photo package (link given above), and have fun with them. I have started a thread in the HDR group where you can post your results.

El Parque Natural de Urkiola es un espacio protegido situado en el extremo sur oriental de Bizkaia y norte de Araba en Euskadi. Es una área protegida de 5.768 ha que se hallan en el conjunto montañoso que forman las sierras de Aramotz-Eskubaratz, los Montes del Duranguesado y la sierra de Aragio.
Fue declarado "Parque Natural" el 29 de diciembre de 1989 mediante el Decreto 275/1989 de conservación de los espacios naturales y de la flora y fauna silvestres, con el objetivo de la protección de los valores naturales y paisajísticos que tiene haciéndolos compatibles con la explotación agrícola, ganadera y forestal tradicional del lugar. Se declaró Lugar de Importancia Comunitaria (ES2130009) en diciembre de 1997 integrándose en la Red Natura 2000.
El puerto de montaña de Urkiola, que forma la carretera BI-623 que atraviesa el Parque por el paraje así denominado, es el corazón del mismo y en él se hallan el centro de interpretación y las instalaciones administrativas y formativas, así como el Santuario de Urkiola y algunos establecimientos hosteleros y de servicios.
