"Mont Fort is a mountain of the Pennine Alps, located near Verbier in the Swiss canton of Valais. It lies on the range between the valleys of Bagnes and Nendaz, north of the Rosablanche. With a height of 3,328 metres above sea level, Mont Fort is the highest summit north of the Col de Louvie (2,921 m).

Mont Fort is surrounded by several glaciers, the largest being the Glacier de Tortin, on its northwestern side. The second largest is the Glacier du Mont Fort, located on its northeastern side. On its eastern side lies the lower summit Petit Mont Fort (3,135 m). The Glacier du Petit Mont Fort lies between the two summits. There are no glaciers on the south side of the mountain. A small lake named Lac du Petit Mont Fort (2,764 m) lies on the south flank.

The summit of Mont Fort is easily accessible by cable car from the heights of Verbier or Nendaz. The cable cars from the two valleys converge at the intermediate station (2,894 m) north of the Col des Gentianes, the upper section reaching a height of 3,308 metres. In the winter and early spring season, the mountain, including the Glacier de Tortin, is the culminating point of the 4 Vallées ski area.

As unusually cold weather gripped Europe at the beginning of March 2018. Nicknamed: The Beast from the East, the cold front caused travel chaos, with hundreds of flights cancelled. Trains broke down. Motorists found themselves stuck on highways and trapped in frosty conditions for hours. This is particularly unusual weather is something that happens very rarely in this country. The big chill also froze canals in the Stavoren - Netherlands. Ice on the Voorstraat canal was thick enough for residents to lace up their skates and glide across its frozen surface. It’s just cool. You can go fast and you see the world from a slightly different perspective. When the temperature drops low enough for long enough, the lakes and the canals become sparkling highways for the skaters. Little kiosks are set up on the ice to dispense heart-warming liqueurs. I really love this part of our culture. Almost everyone, young or old, likes to skate and is smiling and friendly. Today it's the first day of ice skating on natural ice in Friesland. Still no ideal conditions, but I enjoy the sound of my skates over the ice and the view of the village. It is minus two degrees celcius and great skating weather. During the month January and February thousands of geese can be found here in Friesland. The geese are migratory, moving south or west in winter. The greylag geese fly in V- formation to save themselves energy. Friesland in the winter is a real skater’s paradise.

Photo taken from the canal in Stavoren - Netherlands. Parents with children are back on the ice. It was laid-back and hot chocolate milk was enjoyed as it should be. The ice is not equally good everywhere but here in Stavoren you can get nice skating in the front street. Look at the many geese flying in the air. At this time of year they are easy to find in Friesland.

'It sil heve', 'it giet oan'...

After a break with various other photos, i think it's time to get back to the American muscle series. The next featured car is a very ... famous one: General Lee from "The Dukes of Hazzard"! The original General Lee, or just General, was a 1969 Dodge Charger running on various versions of the classic V8 (from 5,2L to 7,2L) and delivering up to 370HP to the wheels. It was named after the American Civil war general Robert E. Lee and on its rooftop it bears a Confederate flag, a variant of the square battle flag of Lee's Army of Northern Virginia. Rumors has that General's doors were welded shut and that's why the brothers had to jump through the window to get in and out of the car. In this photo we have a General Lee replica that I found in a local car show a few months back. Interesting detail: at the background you can see a Dodge Challenger Hellcat (powered by a supercharged 6,2L V8 producing a whopping 707HP!), which in my eyes is the modern version of the classic Dodge Charger (although there is a modern Dodge Charger)

Dukes of Hazzard theme song:

διασημο: ο General Lee απο την τηλεοπτικη σειρα "The Dukes of Hazzard"!

The San Juan Bautista Indian Church in San Juan Chamula does not look great from the outside, but it's amazing inside (unfortunately photos are not allowed inside).

There is no bench. Instead, pine leaves dot the entire floor of the church. Thousands of candles are lit, and complete Indian families pray fervently on the floor.

The walls are dotted with statues of saints.

There is no priest, the bishop has the right to enter the church only once a year, for baptisms.

I felt inside this church an incredible mysticism and fervor!

Winter sunset on the sea. Helsinki. January in Finland.

The small islands of Uunisaari in the south of Helsinki.

In the north island there is a beautiful beach with cafe, restaurant, traditional Finnish sauna and outside jacuzzi. Also you can grill your own sausages with a stunning view of open sea. During winter you can also dip in to a frozen Baltic sea... if you want 😂

PS. We have some snow here today (maybe 1 cm). I can see it through the microscope. 😂

From the platform on the pyramid of the moon in Teotihuacan, we have a splendid view that let us realize the gigantism of this city.

The city was founded around 100 BC and lasted until the 7th - 8th century AD. At its peak around 500 AD, its population was estimated at 125000 inhabitants or more (source Wikipedia).

In the left of the photo, we discover the pyramid of the sun, 65 meters (216 feet) high. The large driveway opposite is called the Avenue of the Dead, It is more than 2 km (1,3 mile) long.

The giant prickly stick insect (Extatosoma tiaratum), also refferred to as spiny leaf insect, Australian walking stick and Macleay’s spectre, is a large stick insect from Australia (Queensland and New South Wales) and New Guinea. Like almost all 6000 stick insects it has a Phasmid Study Group number or PSG number: PSG 9.

This species of stick insect looks more like a cactus than like a twig. Its body is bulky and covered in small spines. On its legs it has big lobes that are also spiked and look like leaves of a desert plant. Extatosoma tiaratum are often light to mid brown, but occasionally you can find green, beige or dark brown varieties.

The difference between (adult) males and females is enormous.

The females are bulky, thick and 15 cm long. They have lots of spines on their back and large lobes on their legs.

The males are really slender, have little spines and reach a length of 9 to 11 cm. The adult males have long wings and are able to fly, while the females have small wings (about 2,5 cm long).

Like most stick insects this species is docile by nature. It is nocturnal and will generally only move during the night. It has an amazing defense strategy: it will mimic a scorpion when threatened. If they are disturbed, they will curl up their tail to mimic a scorpion.

Extatosoma tiaratum is PSG 9.

Perugia, capital of the region of Umbria, is worth visiting. It covers a high hilltop and part of the valleys around the area. The history of Perugia goes back to the Etruscan period; Perugia was one of the main Etruscan cities. The city is also known as the universities town, with the University of Perugia founded in 1308. Perugia is also a well-known cultural and artistic centre of Italy. The city hosts multiple annual festivals and events.

Perugia historic centre is as compelling as any in Italy, filled with fine Etruscan, Roman and medieval monuments – just be prepared for lots of walking when visiting Perugia. The capital city of Umbria, oozes with charm from almost every corner. There is the requisite town wall, a good chunk of which is still standing. Interesting architecture that hints at the city’s old age of 310 or 309 B.C. Panoramic view from Porta Sole on church Saint Maria Nuova. It's a parish documented since 1285, when the three portals that are still visible on the side are made. Damaged by fire, the church was rebuilt in 1376. It has been renovated and restored several times over the centuries. Please have an amazing 3D view from: earth.google.com.

Continuing my "photographic journey" to classic American muscles, 1970 Chevy Caprice follows. I think I have seen the owner of this one, a classic gentleman that owns a tuxedo store downtown (for some reason it made total sense to me a person with his style to drive this car). This Caprice is in perfect condition and I believe at some point received a nice paint job as I cant imagine Chevy selling this car with purple color. The car probably runs on one version of the Turbo V8 ranging from 6,6L to 7,4L (yeah, no concern about fuel efficient engines back in 1970s) and delivering between 250 and 350hp. I like Caprice's simple lines and extended length, it definitely follows the design of that era with a less muscular look. Every time I see this car, the first things that pops to my mind is that this I want to be my gateway car in case i ever have to do a .. robbery! The photo was taken with my phone, so apologies for the relatively low quality.

...because I want to tell a story about a wonderful world around me.
