#124/365 We try to go out to eat as a family once every several weeks and when I do I try to get a shot of where we go. So here is one more to add to my resturants set. This is actually the second shot from this place. I'll have to make it a point to go somewhere else next time. Hope everyone had a great weekend.

Here's a photograph of my horse "Sam". He is around 21 years old now.. and still just as handsome! No one has ridden him in over 10 years and he is quite content at being a "pasture pet". He has a wonderful personality and loves apples, pears and carrots... of course.

Notice the beautiful dogwood blossoms in the background. They have been gorgeous this spring... pure and white.

Thank you so much for your visits to my stream. I have been so busy the past few days and have gotten behind on my comments. I am blessed to have such wonderful, loyal friends...like YOU!

a very long time ago (before email) a friend told me that he preferred to write letters over using the telephone. when i asked him why, he told me to imagine all the consecutive positions of a letter in space -- and to visualize them together. they'd make a kind of worm-like object in space. then imagine it touching the author's hand on one and and the recipient's hand on the other.

he felt that, in that way, he was indirectly actually touching his friend's hand on the other side.

that's the first time i visualized time as a fourth dimension -- if it is. many types of images come to mind on this theme.

there was a video someone had made where he actually gathered people of every age -- the youngest was newborn and the oldest was in her eighties, i believe -- lined them up without clothing, and filmed as his camera want past them. i've searched to find it, unsuccessfully at the moment

i took this at monastiraki station yesterday (geotagged on its flickr page) after a wonderful mayday with friends, strolling around the foot of the acropolis, and having a delicious lunch at monastiraki's cafe avissinia. it helped that i had some ouzo (on ice, with lemon soda. yum.)

this is a 10-second hand-held exposure.

EXPLORED ON 30 APRIL 2009 - # 88

Each time I wake up early in the morning to start my photography journey, everyone around me express their surprise. They think I am crazy to give up my lovely sleep for taking some "stupid" pictures. One of them even told me "Would you rather not be peacefully asleep?"

For me my photography is like a meditative practice. As I try and relate with my subject all other distractions and worries shut off, and it brings a deep sense of calmness.

This is especially so when the subject is the early morning sun. Often there is not many people around at this time. Also the magic of the light at this time keeps those awake, in rapt attention.

It was such a morning, when I went out to take this image. It was dark when I arrived at the beach to capture dawn. As I found this scenario, I positioned myself a bit futher away from the beach, tried to frame this "Still Morning".

As usual, the angel of luck sent another crow my way, who perched silently on the boat.

A little BBF (Belly Button Fluff) for HPPT!

Tanah Lot Temple, Bali, Indonesia

Pura Tanah Lot (Tanah Lot Temple) is Hindu Temple.

Located about 20 km from Denpasar, the temple sits on a huge offshore rock which has been shaped continuously over the years by the ocean tide.

Tanah Lot means "Land in the Middle of the Sea" (in Balinese language) is a famous rock formation off the Indonesian island of Bali.

Note: It is a fantastic place to view beautiful dramatic sunsets. Every day at dusk, tourists throng the area to witness the magnificent silhouette of the temple against the glowing horizon.

Taken one night after work from Kangaroo Point, QLD, just before the storm came over.

- HDR, 3 exposures [2,0,+2EV] shot in RAW/ISO100 at f9, using Sigma 10-20mm lens.

I love how the glass reflects the sky in this shot (another shot!) of the More London complex on London's South Bank.

This shot was taken with the assistance of Mr.Buyie =)

Yeah! We know this is a boring shot. And we know a lot of people have done this before. We weren't even sure how to do it but finally figured it out. It took us about 50 shots to get it just right.

For this shot, my 580 EXII speedlite was used as a master on Buyie's 40D, while Buyie's 430EXII was used as a slave, put at the left side of the glass, and point it straight to the glass.

We used a black-coloured briefcase for the backround and a a piece of glass for the base.

A credit to Bro. Azli and Bro. Emran for the info of strobist setting.

I couldn't believe my eyes when I emerged from the dimly lit interior of Notre Dame --- after enjoying the soprano singing vespers --- and walked into the soft rain showers of the evening. What a wonderful surprise to be greeted by this illuminated sky full of rich color! The shining pavement reflecting a glorious sunset shone against the dark buildings, and people with their umbrellas were in silhouette, framed by the illuminated lamposts. Paris between day and night! It was one of those moments when you just grab your camera and do your best to capture the magic! .

Lorsque je sortais - apres vepres - des tenebres de Notre Dame, je me suis trouvee devant ce tableau presque invraisemblable. Il avait plu, et le coucher du soleil rayonnait une lumiere rosatre et doree parmi les nuages qui dansaient. Quelle belle surprise inattendue!

Flock of sheep (about 300 animals). They are on to the night pasture. They had been grazing in the Immerloopark (park, lake and morass) in Arnhem, the Netherlands.

Het gras in een van de grotere Arnhemse stadsparken "Het Immerloopark" (park, meertje, moeras) wordt dagelijks op een natuurlijke wijze kort gehouden door een kudde van circa 300 Australische schapen.

Onder leiding van een schaapsherder is de kudde hier onderweg naar de nachtwei.

Twee Border Collies, waarvan er één uiterterst links zichtbaar is, houden de schapen bij elkaar.

This morning was less warm than the last few days, with a promise that the day will be more pleasant as well. Was out in the garden checking on how some things fared in the recent heat wave. This grouping was looking quite well so I thought I'd capture it and share it here.

The Echeveria 'Gilva Spreader', in the foreground, I've shared about before - not as many flowers as we've had previously, but a better showing than expected this year (the weather has been so strange). To the left is Iris foetidissima 'Variegata' - a nice, tough, persistent clump of handsome foliage. Behind it, in front of the large terra-cotta pot, is Calamintha nepeta - we've seem this a lot growing wild in the South of France. My plants came from the late Wayne Roderick, a local plantsman and plant collector. I really enjoy its fragrant, minty foliage.

To the right of the Calamintha is a pot of hybrid Agengel or Pansy-Faced Pelargonium 'Angie' (from our friend Robin at geraniaceae.com). Below 'Angie' is a small, blue-gray carpet of Sedum rupestre. I also grow the very closely related S. sediforme, but S. rupestre is distinctive in its flower stems which emerge arched over like an umbrella handle before straightening up when in flower. Between this Sedum and the Echeveria first mentioned, is the foliage of Stachys chrysantha.

In the rear is a large plant of Lavandula dentata and a small potted specimen of L. viridis. The succulent in the top left corner is Crassula perfoliata var. heterotricha.

Trying to make variations on the same theme. I'm not bored with it yet. After the silhouette portraits I want to catch them in action. It's quite a hassle, my camera needs to think for ages it seems before the click. But I have new chances every day. And it isn't even august with the truly great sunsets. I also want to do sunrises with the low hanging fog, that could result in some interesting shots..

EXPLORED ON 20 APRIL 2009 - # 148

I dedicate this image to my father, who has been the light of my professional life.

Who can give the sun, the permission to shine. Not even the darkest of clouds can hide the brilliance radiating out of the heart of our Solar System. Such is its power.

In the same way, who can hide the brilliance of the light in our heart. No matter how strongly the mind and its patterns cloud it, the brilliant jewel will continue to shine. So connect with the wind, and blow away the clouds. Let the sun in your heart shine through.

While I was in visiting War Eagle Mills & Farm in NW Arkansas, I could see where the road disappeared through some trees and over the hill. I just couldn't resist attempting to capture what I was seeing. After I finished with shooting by the bridge, I jumped in the rental car and drove up the road a few hundred feet and then parked on the side of road...stepped out and walked into the center...and then snapped a few off. With some minor alterations of the lighting with my ReDynamix plug-in in Photoshop, I've been able to recapture the incredible scene that I experienced while standing in the middle of that rural road.
