Catching up with my fave spot of Toronto's mixed forest :-)

Captured quite a few interesting moments in this spot during February... but first wanted to share this dramatic "after sunset" scene I witnessed recently.

A half-demolished Nelson's Pillar on O'Connell Street, Dublin.

From the front page of the Irish Times on Tuesday, 8 March 1966:

"The top of Nelson Pillar, in O'Connell street, Dublin, was blown off by a tremendous explosion at 1.32 o'clock this morning and the Nelson statue and tons of rubble poured down into the roadway. By a miracle, nobody was injured, though there were a number of people in the area at the time."

The sky is still clearly overexposed but the fairy tale landscape might compensate that, at least a little.

The Pyrenees mountain range forms a fantastic backdrop to the entire Ariège Department, rising some 3,000 meter (10,000 feet) in the Montcalm Massif, along the border with Andorra and Spain. The highest peaks are clearly visible visible from Toulouse in the Haute Garonne. It is one of the least populated and most unspoiled regions of France. The locals enjoy keeping traditions alive, especially old farming techniques. Consequently, as fewer insecticides, for example, have been used, the flora and fauna of the area continue to be rich in both diversity and numbers. Butterflies are common and birds are numerous; particularly noticeable are large birds of prey, including the magnificent Griffon vultures.

Manila is the capital of the Philippines. Metro Manila is the most populous metropolitan area in the Philippines and the 11th in the world with an estimated population of 16,300,000. The greater urban area is the fifth-most populous in the world and has an estimated metropolitan population of 20,654,307 people.

Numerous notable landmarks are located in Manila, such as Rizal Park, and the historical Intramuros. Rizal park is a crescent-shaped 58 hectare park that lies within the heart of Manila's cultural and business district, as an honor and dedication to the country's national hero José Rizal, who was executed in the same place where the park was created by the Spaniards on charges of subversion.

Tonight, 25/02/2012 the Moon, Venus and Jupiter were together in the same part of the evening sky. The Moon, only a few days old and a bright Venus were almost side by side and Jupiter just a little further out. This 450 second (7.5 minute) exposure managed to catch the rotation of the Earth - just enough of it to render the stars and planets as little more than streaks in the sky.

While I had the shutter open, I noticed a fairly bright and constant light in the sky moving rather fast up from the horizon. It wasn't an aeroplane - no flashing lights, and it was moving too fast to be a plane. I knew it was a satellite, a man made one, travelling across the sky. I hoped that it may even have been the International Space Station. I got home and checked on the NASA website and sure enough, for the time that the shutter was open on my camera, a few minutes either side of 19:30, the ISS was in fact in the sky above the UK.

You can see the ISS trail on this image as the constant (yet faint) line that travelled from bottom right to top left of this image. Getting this on the image really did round off the night. You may need to view the full size image though to see it. Not sure what magnitude the ISS was reflecting that night - but I don't think it was the best night for viewing that particular pass over.

Enjoy an image of the Seattle skyline from the northwestern neighborhood of Magnolia. In the immediate foreground is Smith Cove Waterway, part of the Port of Seattle that houses extremely large cruise ships during the summer months.

In the center, the mill with the green lights is actually a grain terminal (still in operation) and is located adjacent to a fishing pier that’s open 24 hours a day.

The very scenic Elliott Bay bicycle trail goes through the area, known as Myrtle Edwards Park. I take this route to and from work eight months out of the year. In fact, bike season, for me, starts on the first Monday in March! Can’t wait!

A different view of the same scene here.

Last week I rented a Nikon 14-24mm f/2.8 lens from Borrowlenses.com. This lens is truly a thing of beauty and awesomeness.

Funny story, actually. So, I rented the lens last week and headed to this very same spot to take some wideangle sunset shots. I spent a good hour on that windy ridge snapping away as my fingers got more and more numb. Anyway, I got some great shots that evening. Well, I thought I had gotten some great shots, but when I processed them they were covered in dust. Every single one. And I have no idea how all that dust got on my sensor. Anyway, yesterday I ran into Borrowlenses.com's San Carlos, CA location and had my sensor cleaned while I waited. Tonight I took the rented lens out for the last time (it goes back tomorrow) and took the shots I had wanted to take last week. And guess what? Tonight's sunset was ten times better than last week's...and dust-free to boot! How's that for luck? This lens is going on my wish list. It really is an amazing, amazing lens.

Continuing my Toy-ronto Life series...

Happy Miniature Sunday, Purple Hour edition yet again :-)

This is from the last Sunday, when I had a great roof-top photo-session during the snowy purple hour. Captured this purple magic in many of my fave places I tend to photograph from the roof-top, of course, Toy-ronto spots included :-) So do expect more of this long-exposure purple goodness in the near future :-)

More of toy-some tilt-shift fun is coming - stay tuned / bientot a l'ecran ;-)

Part of my Magic Purple Hour series.

Yesterday night went to photograph the street art in back alley ways of china town. This was the first shot I took handheld (with ISO 2000, f/8, 1/13sec) just to check the composition with wide angle, before setting up the tripod. After that I took around 15 shots. Interestingly this one I like the most!

Well, again uploaded two photos in one day and in reverse order!! this one is yesterday's shot! Was too sleepy when came back home to process and upload!

A wonderful weekend to you all! I hope you have the opportunity to hand around like these three guys.

I've been back from vietnam for more than a months - I didn't touch my camera ever since. This morning I had the feeling to grap it for the first time after the trip. It's itching again even though it is insanely cold around here. I can't wait to work on something new during the next weeks.

My first ever star trail :))

Had a great time last night with Flickr buddy Rohit Ganda as we went out for our first ever star trail photoshoot!

It was a very difficult location by a lake here in Hyderabad, with a lot of rocks and slush and mud all around and without much lights it took us a long long time to find a right spot to catch the trails.

After nearly an hour of scouting around in the dark, we both managed to find a decent location. I stacked 10 shots here, each exposed to approximately 10 mins (600 seconds) so overall about 1hr 40 mins of exposure in here and am sure a little bit longer would've been better.

Being a sucker for the human element in the frame, on my last shot I went and climbed those rocks and stood there for about 3-4minutes after which I got dizzy and decided to sit down by the side so I did that for another 3-4 minutes. Thats how I got two of myself in the frame, which I'm not sure is particularly exciting but thats how it is.

Am not 100% satisfied with the overall outcome here but considering it was my first time, I will take this. Will certainly try for a better one next time.

A happy weekend to all my friend.

My third photo with more than 100.000 views (28.09.2014), thank you !

---------------------------------------------------------------------

As teenager I wanted to have a motorbike which could be driven without licence but my pocketmoney was not enough to buy one. So I had to work and delivered newspapers every morning one and a half hour before school. It was not easy to stand up every day at 5 o'clock in the morning but I did it. One day I could buy my Mofa. You surely can imagine how proud and happy I was!

The photo was taken with a Rolleicord in 1970 in my hometown Diepholz, Lower Saxony, Germany and now scanned.

Badly needed a day out today after babysitting for 2 days in a row! Joined my friend in Rowerdennan, where the weather was kind to us. Here’s one of the shots I took using a wide angle.

I’m submitting this for the Recording Images group, which as the theme of “landscapes” for this week.

I have a bit of catching up to do, but hope you’re all having a great week so far!
