♫ Baaba Maal & Hans Zimmer - Still ♫

To accompany the photograph a song with the soulful voice of the best Senegalese crooner, Baaba Maal.

About 12 kilometers from the Sanctuary of Covadonga, immersed in a spectacular landscape, which is accessed by a very steep road, are the two glacial lakes: the Enol and the Ercina, at an altitude of 1100 meters.

The road to the lake is full of beautiful views, so I recommend a stop at the Mirador de la Reina to enjoy an unparalleled view of the Picos de Europa.

One more of the old APS film scans from a decade back when we were living in China. Another one which could have done with a slightly better composition to take advantage of the mad chemical fish. I have no idea if they are natural. The same market was selling luminous green and pink chicks - so I am certain there's something unsettlingly fabricated about these chaps.

The colours are as shot, bar the print/scan element of the process. I looked at playing with vibrance/saturation, but it wasn't needed and the image was so degraded that the pixels wouldn't tolerate tweaks. Really strange beasts - if anyone knows what they are, please drop me a note. I'd be really interested to know.

Hope everyone is having a great weekend!

Seattle, with a population of 609,000, is the 23rd largest city in the United States. The 24th largest city is the nation’s capital, Washington, D.C. (or what Seattleites call “the other Washington”).

Some trivia:

Washington State is the only state named after a U.S. president, and the only state in the western US with an English name. All the surrounding states and their neighbors have names derived from either Spanish or Native American origin.

There is only one “Seattle” on the planet. No other city or town in the world shares its name.

Story:

---------------------------------------------------------

There are many great photographic vantage points in San Francisco. So when I'm there for a sunset,it is really hard to choose from the vast and comprehensive menu! Parking can be a bit of a challenge though, even at night.

The only difficult thing about making this picture were the sea lions that were constantly swimming by making patterns in the water. Even on these 30-second exposures, the patterns are obvious and can spoil the smooth reflections. So I waited for the wakes to calm down and shot between them since I only get about 4 minutes where the moonlight, sunset light and city lights are even. There was also a human swimmer but when he saw me he courteously stayed away with the sea lions circling him. They seem to be friendly.

Actually there is one long sea lion trail that is just below the boat in the center. I'll mark it with a note. And if you ever go to San Francisco, try the Ghirardelli Chocolate!

The map shows exactly where this is. It was taken from the Municipal pier at the end of Van Ness Ave.

Simply the best way to scout out locations that there is. You can see sun angles and pre-visualize light under lots of different conditions. Sometimes you can actually pre-compose your shots! This has saved me many thousands of vertical feet of climbing by avoiding spots with blocked views etc.

So fixing my hair didn't work apparently :P

I was gonna write about how my hair is the result of a ton of backcombing and only 1 hairgrip, but then I realised I edited the poop out of it anyway so it wouldn't exaclty be truthful. It was pretty tall though...just not this tall...

I might add more details to this photo, 'cause I have a few more ideas for it, but I wanted to post it already.

If you don't know yet, Wage got a dog and life with Uglydog is fun. He eats, he jumps, he fetches, he eats, he chews on furniture, he chases squirrels, he eats. All to be expected. But there is one thing I didn't expect. Wage finally stopped saying "bite me" every time I ask him for anything. He is afraid Uglydog, who is always around, may take it literally.

Blythe Physical Challenge #27 - Celebrating Blythe: you are something special!

We are celebrating one year of Blythe Physical Challenge Group!

But it is a double celebration because it's also the 200th day of my 365 project.

So here is Daphne, my Kozy, the girl I used for my first BPC a whole year ago. And Edna, my Goldie, who is celebrating 200 days of her solo 365.

We have a hot chocolate complete with squirty cream, and muffins; one is toffee apple flavour and the other is cherry.

Sempre nei pressi di Alghero, un' insenatura con dei colori d' acqua fantastici che vanno dal turchese al verde smeraldo,la particolarità del posto è data da diverse grotte, visibili anche in foto, e ancora una torre spagnola.

In case you are tired of seeing Half Dome, it isn't in this photo!!

I stayed one extra day in Yosemite after everyone else had left so that I could hike the Mist Trail and to get around to other locations in the Valley I might have missed. Since I came the farthest, I needed to maximize my time in the park!!

Kevin told me that some weather was moving in and that I would probably see some epic clouds. He wasn't kidding. The clouds were totally epic, so epic that Half Dome was entirely obscured!

It did make an appearance, briefly; but I am uploading that image later! Note: time image taken is listed as CST (forget to change the camera time). Real time this was taken was two hours earlier at 7:18!

ZLATIBOR is a mountain of exquisite beauty. It has pleasant and mild climate, large clearings, exuberant pastures intersected with mountains with mountain streams and pine trees - which this mountain is named for.

The average hight is about 1000m above sea level.

Mountain and sea gulfs encounter here which speed up the curing and the recovering from large number of lung and heart illnesses, especially from illnesses of thyroid gland and anemia.

The Balkans is the historical name of a geographic region of southeastern Europe. The region takes its name from the Balkan Mountains, which run through the centre of Bulgaria into eastern Serbia. The region has a combined area of 550,000 km2 (212,000 sq mi) and a population of about 55 million people.

The ancient Greek name for the Balkan Peninsula was “the Peninsula of Haemus” (Χερσόνησος του Αίμου, Chersónisos tou Aímou).

The Balkans are adjoined by water on three sides: the Black Sea to the east and branches of the Mediterranean Sea to the south and west (including the Adriatic, Ionian, Aegean and Marmara seas).

The identity of the Balkans is dominated by its geographical position; historically the area was known as a crossroads of various cultures. It has been a juncture between the Latin and Greek bodies of the Roman Empire, the destination of a massive influx of pagan Slavs, an area where Orthodox and Catholic Christianity met, as well as the meeting point between Islam and Christianity.

The Balkans today is a very diverse ethno-linguistic region, being home to multiple Slavic, Romance, and Turkic languages, as well as Greek, Albanian, and others. Through its history many other ethnic groups with their own languages lived in the area, among them Thracians, Illyrians, Romans, Uzes, Pechenegs, Cumans, Avars, Celts, Germans, and various Germanic tribes.

The Balkan region was the first area of Europe to experience the arrival of farming cultures in the Neolithic era. The practices of growing grain and raising livestock arrived in the Balkans from the Fertile Crescent by way of Anatolia, and spread west and north into Pannonia and Central Europe.

In pre-classical and classical antiquity, this region was home to Greek city-states, Illyrians, Paeonians, Thracians, Epirotes, Mollosians, Thessalians, Dacians and other ancient groups. Later the Roman Empire conquered most of the region and spread Roman culture and the Latin language but significant parts still remained under classical Greek influence. During the Middle Ages, the Balkans became the stage for a series of wars between the Byzantine, Bulgarian and Serbian Empires.

The abandoned Shooters Waterfront Cafe in Providence, Rhode Island.

Shooters Waterfront Cafe

Shooter’s, part of a national chain of casual waterfront dining and dancing venues, was in a three-story building that could accommodate nearly 1,600 patrons. The 25,000-square-foot complex featured dockside dining, a waterfront pool, bars inside and outside, a top-floor restaurant and a 90-slip marina. One of its incarnations included a boat valet. It cost $6 million to build in 1990.

The waterfront nightclub overlooking Narragansett Bay operated under many different names in its 10 year lifespan. It was also known as Waterline, Bombers and Bootleggers. It closed down in 2000 and the property was taken by eminent domain by the state Department of Transportation and used as a staging area for the relocation of Route 195. The building was finally demolished in 2012 and the site sits empty today despite being on the waterfront.
