When I was looking at photos of Portland before I left, this was one of the shots I really wanted to try. I never would have found this spot If it weren't for David taking me up there. It took me several tries to get a sharp shot, as you have to zoom to 200mm and take a 20-30 second exposure. I sure am happy with the result. Thanks again David! =)

ZLATIBOR is a mountain of exquisite beauty. It has pleasant and mild climate, large clearings, exuberant pastures intersected with mountains with mountain streams and pine trees - which this mountain is named for.

The Balkan region was the first area of Europe to experience the arrival of farming cultures in the Neolithic era. The practices of growing grain and raising livestock arrived in the Balkans from the Fertile Crescent by way of Anatolia, and spread west and north into Pannonia and Central Europe.
In pre-classical and classical antiquity, this region was home to Greek city-states, Illyrians, Paeonians, Thracians, Epirotes, Mollosians, Thessalians, Dacians and other ancient groups. Later the Roman Empire conquered most of the region and spread Roman culture and the Latin language but significant parts still remained under classical Greek influence. During the Middle Ages, the Balkans became the stage for a series of wars between the Byzantine, Bulgarian and Serbian Empires.

It's my first one in this colour.
I went to Filoli last week to see how the gardens were in August. They are thriving. I took this shot in the "cutting garden", which is their garden dedicated to growing flowers for the arrangements in the house. Filoli is an historic site of the National Trust for Historic Preservation, located in Woodside, California and I am extremely lucky to live relatively close to it.

While the rest of London rioted, I thought I'd show everyone a different side of the city. As it turns out, quite by accident. I was working late and came out around sunset. I had my camera and tripod with me, so thought I'd meander my way slowly to a tube station. I headed toward Westminster and aimed to get the Houses of Parliament. Again. By the time I'd gotten there, the sun had gone to low and all the clouds cleared up.
Not one to give up easily, I headed towards the bigest cloud formation I could see. This took me into St James's Park. Quite by happenstance I spied this quaint little cottage to which I'd never set eyes on before. "What a quaint little cottage! I've never set eyes on this before!" I said to myself. It reminded me of the gingerbread and cake cottage from Hansel and Gretel, the Brothers Grimm fairytale. "I shall take this photo!", I exclaimed out loud! Passing people stared at me like I was a lunatic. I can only assume the riots had made them jumpy.
I decided to process this to give it a more fairytale feel in keeping with my vision. This really deserves to be viewed large and black; it adds a lot, especially to this photo.
It turns out that this little place is the headquarters of the London Parks & Gardens Trust and was built in 1841 as a bird keeper's cottage. It sits upon Duck Island in the St James's Park Lake. At the end of the lake, where you can see the last remnants of the sunset, you can just make out Buckingham Palace.

Descrizione
Farfalla di media grandezza (la femmina può toccare i 30 mm di apertura alare), che si distingue facilmente dagli altri satiridi nostrani per la livrea nera e bianca. Superiormente, evidenzia un disegno a scacchiera che si ripete sulle parti inferiori con tonalità giallastre. I disegni appaiono meno appariscenti sulle ali posteriori, sulle quali si osserva, inoltre, una serie interrotta di ocelli submarginali.
Biologia
Specie univoltina, con svernamento allo stadio larvale e sfarfallamento in giugno-luglio. I bruchi, pelosi, sono di colore variabile dal verde-giallo al bruno, con due linee longitudinali scure dorsali e un paio di linee giallastre lateralmente. Testa e appendici caudali sono rosso-bruni. Conducono vita diurna nutrendosi di Graminacee (gen. Phleum, Festuca, Bromus, Dactylis ecc.) alla base delle quali si impupano. Se disturbati, si arrotolano su se stessi lasciandosi cadere al suolo.
Distribuzione ed ecologia
Con alcune sottospecie, si estende dall'Europa centr-meridionale e Nordafrica all'Iran. Presente in tutta Italia, eccetto Sardegna, dalla pianura ai 3000 m. Poco frequente nel territorio, ove la si è osservata in volo su radure fiorite.

This is another image from my recent visit to "qutub shahi tombs" in Hyderabad. A big portion of this place is in ruins and as you can see the roof is crumbling, the walls are broken and overall it is in a very sorry state.
When I entered this hall, I was astounded by the light coming through the roof and the very interesting design of this hall. I have tried here to experiment with some tones and textures to give it an antique, old world feel but am not really sure I like the final look of this image.
This is again a vetorama because it was not possible to fit everything in one frame so I took two different shots of the top and bottom and stitched them together.

My third upload of the sunrise view at Podere Belvedere, Tuscany, Italy. Sky changed minute by minute and so I tried different perspectives. The best thing was, that the grass was wet and I was wearing sneakers. Never had that dripping wet socks before. But it was worth it.

El Angliru (en asturiano: l'Angliru) es un puerto de montaña del Principado de Asturias, situada en el corazón de la Sierra del Aramo, en el concejo de Riosa. Situado a 1.570 m de altitud, constituye una espacio natural de gran belleza ubicado entre algunas de las cimas más importantes de esta sierra.
De ser conocido sólo por los ganaderos locales y excursionistas, pasó a cobrar fama internacional tras ser incluido como final de etapa en la Vuelta Ciclista a España en 1999, dada la gran dureza de la ascensión, que alcanza en algunos tramos pendientes máximas del 23,5 %, uno de los puertos de montaña más difíciles del ciclismo mundial. De hecho, l'Angliru está considerado como la cima de mayor dureza, junto con el Mortirolo y el Zoncolan en Italia
En esta ocasion nos acompañaron Gonzalo (Willian Wallas) su hijo Alejandro y Jesus (Astur56) ya que se encontraban aqui en Gijon-Asturias

Sonoma State Beach - Sonoma County California
Its been quite a long time since I've made any short shutter speed images that capture the movement of the ocean, so I decided to see how film would react to these shutter speeds. As I have mentioned before, film has it's challenges, but these challenges are exactly what I was looking for. With my digital SLR, I had the option of setting up my camera for 1/2 or 1/3 stop increments, but these options are not available with the leaf shutter system on the film camera I use. My knowledge of the lens configurations for the film system I am using is minimal, but my current lens only offers full stop adjustments. With this, and the lack of ISO options*, I have found that the amount of time with workable light is cut in half... At best.
For this image, I watched the movement of the ocean in relation to rock formation and tried to visualize how much movement would be recorded. I waited for the right amount of light to cross over the rock and quickly snapped series of 2 images using a 1/2 second shutter speed. I waited roughly 2 minutes, and snapped two more with 1 second shutter speed. I think both speeds came out good, but the wave curl detail in the 1/2 second exposure (this image) was a little better for my taste.
Working with a digital camera, I had instant enjoyment when the image came up on the LCD, but with film there is a feeling that is hard to get past. The feeling of dialing in your settings, waiting for the perfect moment, and click..... Nothing. No image to view... No instant feedback to help fine tune your exposure. I have found myself feeling as if something broke. Like something wasn't working right, but its all part of the mystery that I have grown to love about analog photography. The nice thing about all of this is the build up and heightened anticipation of what was captured. The process of unrolling, rolling, and developing the film... Watching the timer as the final seconds of the film washing counts down... Pulling the reels from the tank, and seeing exactly what was actually captured.... Its hard for me to explain, but I can say that the delay is worth it.

*I have only one film back, but additional film backs can be loaded with a different ISO and changed mid-roll on the Hasselblad V system. Film speeds can also be adjusted by "pushing" or "pulling" development, but I am still researching these methods.

Today I digged out one of my old New York photos. New York is a great city. Much too great to be discovered in only 3 days.
There are some really pretty motives over there. If you want to see some really mind boggling New York shots go over to Philip Klinger. He did a great Job over there.
Besides I used a wicked processing on this image. I actually didn’t really know why I did it. But you might be wondering why the image looks a bit blurry even though you have the impression of sharp lines and clear parts. That is because I used the Orton Glow style in the beginning. All the things I did after the glow effect where based on it. I was too lazy to do it all over again. Somehow I like the effect because it makes the water in the upper right image golden shivering and it also amplifies the sunrays you can see in the clouds.
If you turn over to full size you can see the boundaries of my equipment. There are colourlines around the houses. This is because of the Tokina 12-24mm I used here. I am really waiting to have enough money to buy a nice D700 and a really good lens to get rid of these things I can’t really stop.
Also I am happy to see all the great photos on your streams. I am really comfortable with all the different styles I see there. As I am most of the time do City, B&W and symmetry photos I am really impressed by your landscape, flower, family, sports and lightpainting shots!

In shot is the 22,000 tonne Panama registered cargo vessel 'Sv Nikolay'.
Don’t really know if you would describe this as a big ship... but I would, it did look to be large and lightly laden riding high in the water, the pooled water left by the leaving tide, left a mirrored surface for reflection, and the Ironmen looked on as to greet the ship into the river Mersey.
I quite liked the painted feel to the cloud backdrop here, I think these would have been perfect light and conditions to have seen tall ships in, oh well the less romantic bulk cargo ship will have to do.
If you want to track ships, this makes it easy, you can see where this ship is now, and what its doing...

So I went out for the first time in quite a while with my camera last night. I've had this image in mind for a long time, but just had never bothered to take it. Its not entirely what I had in mind as I thought the parliament building would have had more lighting and the sky would be more blue. The sky I think was just a problem with seasonal timing of the sun setting directly where I was shooting. The light trails were pretty good though, I wasn't sure how much traffic there would be, but there was enough for a 2 minute exposure.
