I decided to process the DSS version again (last image posted was stacked using Nebulosity) the galaxy now spans edge to edge almost. This time I tried to retain the galactic bulge without blowing out but in doing so some of the core detail is lost in this version. This is a planned 20 hour project, I will post a 10 hour version soon after the moon wanes weather prevailing and I dont get hit by a bus.

I hope you comment good or bad.

Thanks for looking.

I just started using Google+ and its a great place to show your work and find great photographers, here's an invite.

About the Photo

*Camera: Canon EOS Digital Rebel XS *Lens: EF-S 18-55mm ƒ/3.5-5.6 IS *Shutter Speed: 20.0 Sec. *Aperture Value: ƒ/22.0 *ISO: 100 *Focal Length: 18mm (28.8mm Equivalent in 35mm Film)

I shot this on a tripod, using a polarizing filter to make the sky a darker blue to contrast the bright lights, and a 2 Sec. selftimer. I like the diffraction stars created by the small aperture that I used.

I opened the RAW file in ACR and used a new preset I made to give an image a slight HDR feel by increasing the contrast and recovering the highlights and adding detail to the shadows. Pretty well it increases the fill light and recovery sliders, then compensates for lack of contrast by increasing the blacks. The detail is added by the clarity slider and the tone curve is manipulated to tune the global contrast of the image. Since I agressively increased the contrast of the image I decreased the saturation and increased the vibrance to compensate and tweaked each colour's hue to make them look the way I wanted.

I opened the RAW file in CS4 and blended it using luminousity blending mode with another layer that didn't have the ACR adjustments that I had done, I lowered the layer's opacity to control the HDR-like effects to the image and removed some of the annoying halos around the shadow areas. I used the patch tool to remove a large pole to the left of the frame and finished it off with the cloning tool. I cropped the bottom of the frame slightly to remove a boring portion of the image. At the end I saved a 16 bit TIFF file, converted to sRGB colourspace and saved as a JPEG to upload to the internet.

One of our tours in northern Spain along the Atlantic coast brought us to the fishing village Bermeo, which still preserved the atmosphere of a typical fishing port.

As I discovered the ropes with the boats in the background, they encouraged me to play with the depth of field. You can see the second picture in my comment.

If you like please tell me .... which one do you like more?

Bermeo is a town and municipality located in the province of Biscay, in the autonomous community of the Basque Country, which lies in Northern Spain. Bermeo has 17,049 inhabitants, and it is the most important fishing port of the Basque Country.

Bermeo is linked by EuskoTren to Bilbao. Bermeo - en.wikipedia

One of our tours in Northern Spain along the Atlantic Coast ended in the aquarium Donostia-San Sebastián. I haven't been in an aquarium for some years.

There are a number of tropical aquariums, an oceanarium, a Caribbean reef with toxic fishes. Exciting was to be inside the Ocean (see in my comment) ... a huge tank with a multitude of marine life species - which can be seen from inside an acrylic tunnel . Going through it you can see for example shark, ray or eel next to you and above you. The visit was worthwhile and very attractive!

I don't like all photos I've taken because it was really dark for my little Canon. I want to show you those from which I hope you like them ;-).

Starfish or sea stars are echinoderms belonging to the class Asteroidea. The names "starfish" and "sea star" essentially refer to members of the Class Asteroidea. However, common usage frequently finds "starfish" and "sea star" also applied to ophiuroids which are correctly referred to as "brittle stars" or "basket stars".

There are 2,000 living species of starfish that occur in all the world's oceans, including the Atlantic, Pacific, Indian as well as in the Arctic and the Southern Ocean (i.e., Antarctic) regions. Starfish occur across a broad depth range from the intertidal to abyssal depths (>6000 m).

Starfish are among the most familiar of marine animals and possess a number of widely known traits, such as regeneration and feeding on mussels. Starfish possess a wide diversity of body forms and feeding methods. The extent that Asteroidea can regenerate varies with individual species. Broadly speaking, starfish are opportunistic feeders, with several species having specialized feeding behavior, including suspension feeding and specialized predation on specific prey.

The Asteroidea occupy several important roles throughout ecology and biology. Sea stars, such as the Ochre sea star (Pisaster ochraceus) have become widely known as the example of the keystone species concept in ecology. The tropical Crown of Thorns starfish (Acanthaster planci) are voracious predators of coral throughout the Indo-Pacific region. Other starfish, such as members of the Asterinidae are frequently used in developmental biology. .... read more Starfish - en.wikipedia

Handling

The car's suspension will feature double wishbones at the front and a multi-link set-up at the rear, coupled with E-Diff and F1-Trac traction control systems, designed to improve the car's cornering and longitudinal acceleration by 32% compared to its predecessors.[4]

The brakes include a prefill function whereby the pistons in the calipers move the pads into contact with the discs on lift off to minimise delay in the brakes being applied.[2] This combined with the ABS has reduced 100–0 km/h (62-0 mph) braking distance to 32.5 metres (107 ft).[6]

Wil Bloodworth and yours truly got up at 4:00 a.m. last Thursday morning and headed off to Oxbow Bend from downtown Jackson, Wyoming.

That early morning wakeup call was well worth it when we arrived and found almost perfect conditions - great light, great color in the sky, and even some striated clouds that added another twist to the scene.

I've photographed this location several dozen times and conditions were as good as I can ever recall on that chilly June morning last week....

Hello again everyone. This is a sunset shot from Buffalo Point on Antelope Island on the eastern side of the Great Salt Lake in Utah. This was a shot that came at a very heavy price! Numerous Biting Gnats and mosquitoes were hungrily attacking me as I shot this series of photos! They did not only have me to dine upon, but my nephew and my nieces!

Behind us was a great thunderstorm show, and I kept rotating my camera around to try and catch the lightning! Dang it! Every time I moved it or repositioned my camera, a lightning bolt would strike! Oh well not in the cards for this time.

Tomorrow starts my 5 day photo tour of the Palouse region in eastern Washington. I am extremely excited about that. I have just spent the last day and a half in Glacier National Park. Hopefully I can get a shot or two posted later this week in between all of the awesome crop shots I am about to get.

This is a combination of three exposures (+2, 0, -2) merged and tonemapped in Photomatix. I then used Topaz Adjust to help bring some pop to the exposure and final adjustments in Lightroom 2.

I hope everyone is great and I will be able to catch up on your photo streams later in the week. Thank you for the visits, the comments and faves. Have a great Sunday!

About a Silhouette

A silhouette is a view of an object or scene consisting of the outline and a featureless interior, with the silhouetted object usually being black. The term was initially applied in the 18th century to portraits or other pictorial representations cut from thin black card.

The term has been extended to describe the sight or image of a person, object or scene that is backlit, and appears dark against a lighter background. Because a silhouette emphasises the outline, the word has also been used in the fields of fashion and fitness to describe the shape of a person's body or the shape created by wearing clothing of a particular style or period.

Silhouette images may be created in any artistic media, but the tradition of cutting portraits from black card has continued into the 21st century.

I increased the overall saturation with Hue/Saturation in Photoshop. Curve adjustment to increase the overall contrast. 1 layer mask for the sky to increase color and contrast. 1 layer mask in soft light mode at 50% gray, using brush tool to lighten and darken some areas of the image, to bring out details. Last week, I received my "big stopper" and I was itching to get out and use it; so, I headed out to the coast and eventually landed in Pacifica, CA. This city is usually blanketed by fog so I was really crossing my fingers for some nice clouds. As I arrived it started to sprinkle, so I pulled out my golf umbrella and shot away. The rain continued so I had no choice but to shoot the pier from this location. The rain eventually gave up and I shot other comps, but to be honest I liked this one the best. Long exposures (B&W) are not as easy as you think and takes lots of patience. By the way, the "big stopper" is a must in every landscape photographer's bag. It's so much easier then the round screw on type.

Some things just look better Large and on BLACK…… Enjoy!!!

This was a shot I came across while my sister was getting dressed; the sun was shining on this side of the house. So as soon as she got here wedding dress on I told her to stand at the window. I had to use the flash in this cease because of the major over lighting, this made the back of her dress light up so that you can see some of the details.

I my (sort) experience I found out that photos with just the bride that are over lighted have a great result. The only thing I don’t like is the dark speck on the right side, but there is nothing I can do about that.
