This picture was taken at Nelliyampathy, and the valley behind the tree is the Palakkad Gap starting from Kollenkode at the foothills of the steep mountain and running 30-40 km towards the North.

 

The 1600km long Sahyadri (Western Ghats) begins on the South of River Tapti in Gujarat, runs through the west side of peninsular India and ends at Kanyakumari, leaving a narrow corridor of coastal land where the State of Kerala is located. Palakkad, is a sharp discontinuity of the mountain, with high ranges of Nelliyampathy on the South, Kalldikode on the North and lush green paddy fields in the intervening plains.

 

This is perhaps the last tree on the Southern segment of the mountain.

Nowością na czeskich szlakach kolejowych są niekwestionowanie zestawy "Comfortjet", które w połowie kwietnia rozpoczęły regularne kursy w pełnym 9-wagonowym zestawieniu. Pierwszym pociągiem był kurs na pociągach IC 517/510 "Ostravan" relacji Praha hl.n. - Bohumin, a drugim IC 512/515 relacji Bohumin - Planá u Mariánských Lázní.

 

Docelowo zestawy te mają stanowić trzon połączeń międzynarodowych Kolei Czeskich do Berlina, Grazu i Budapesztu, a także Kopenhagi. Zgodnie z zapowiedziami Českich Dráh testowe pociągi złożone z 7 wagonów drugiej klasy, wagonem pierwszej klasy (sterowniczym) oraz wagonem restauracyjnym pojawiły się już na wybranych kursach łączących Pragę z miastem Flensburg.

 

Docelowo po odbiorze lokomotyw Siemens Vectron w wersji prędkości maksymalnej 230km/h możliwe będzie znaczące skrócenie czasu przejazdu między Pragą, Berlinem i Hamburgiem wykorzystując parametry linii kolejowych (planowane uzyskanie homologacji to końcówka 2026r.). Dalsze skrócenie podróży między tak znaczącymi aglomeracjami możliwe będzie po odbiorze budowy nowego tunelu Fehmarnbelt. Wówczas czas jazdy między stolicami Danii, Niemiec i Czech może wynieść ok. 9h z około 11,5h jazdy obecnie.

 

České dráhy nie przewidują jednak wydłużenia żadnego z obsługiwanych opisywanymi składami połączeń do Polski. Zestaw "Vectrain" był jednak obecny przez kilka dni w Polsce, ale tylko testowo na torze doświadczalnym w siedzibie Poznańskiego Instytutu Technologicznego „Łukasiewicz”.

Well it's actually Nineveh, but Nineveh trestle is cool when there's not 4 drones buzzing over your head. With 2 TFT trains going on at the same time in the northeast, it was nice to have not so many people out on the D&H.

An xtra train of Herzog hoppers symboled 975 crosses the Portage Bridge in Letchworth State Park, led by a SD70ACe. The river was running a little high from recent rain, causing the mist from the waterfalls to rise up all the way to the top of the bridge.
