Nice lupins. Once part of the gardens. Used to be a large horses head (no not real silly) about behind the yellow DMU front. Also remember watching the 4PM Thames Clyde Express wizz through, think Hornets Beauty in charge when I noticed that the cast head board had dropped off into the four foot. It was unmarked so Gordon Johnston (funny how I can remember stuff) and I popped down and picked it up. Wandered couple of hundred yards down the road to Stratbungo station where the porter told us to chuck it in that skip bin over there, but thanks anyway lads.

‘Horus in Ptah-Sokar Chapel at Abydos.’
In this relief detail a falcon-headed Horus is assisting at the resurrection of his father Osiris (who is outside the frame of the picture).
The relief can be found on the south wall of the Ptah-Sokar Chapel in the Seti I Temple at Abydos. The temple was begun by Seti I and completed by his son Ramses II in the 13th century BC. Photo Paul Smit.

Decided to work on some of my Eastern State shots last night for a little R&R. i started with what felt like an allergy attack and now just feels like a head cold and sore throat...sigh....just in time for my long weekend.
i really, REALLY want to get back to this place. When i went last summer, it was 98 degrees in Philly. I probably should have stayed at the beach house that day....but had a friend with me and so i bucked up and went early. By the hottest part of the day we were pretty much done shooting and we were “glowing” to say the least. I went with my tripod (yes, jeff....i do use it!!) with the intention of trying to learn myself some HDR! My inner child was hopping that day for sure. i can not even begin to tell you how fascinated i am with this place. Looking back (hindsight IS 20-20!) there is so much more i could have done....and so, naturally, i am planning a trip back there. Possibly April or May. If any of my flickr friends is going to be in the area and wants to join me, give me a shout! (besides....they are constantly working on opening new sections....and me being ever curious, NEEDS to go back!)
This is the outer door of cell 970. probably closed at night (?)......but that is just one of the many questions i have! Each cell has 2 doors. When this door is slid open, the second door, inset about 12 to 18 inches, is made of flat metal strips, woven in a basket weave pattern. (i think in my decrepitude set, this woven type door is what you see on Al Capone’s cell....if i put that shot in already...who can remember!!??)
There are 2 tours.....one guided and one audio. We chose the audio so we could linger for shots without the crowds. in some shots i took, i had to wait for a bit for tour groups to leave so i could get shots of the halls without people. Well worth the wait and besides the more you moved the more you glowed! i live in an old stone house, and really expected it to be somewhat cooler in this place than it was.....perhaps because it is in the city....no trees, etc.
I was very intrigued with the test version of NIK for HDR shots, and did many with that ....i finally got the real thing for Christmas.....a bundle package with tons of different editing options ....i am loving the experimenting and learning. Great new toy!!
Happy Saturday Everyone!
