In 1962 Minolta replaced the SR-3 with a revolutionary new camera, the Minolta SR-7. Despite its appearance which was very similar to the SR-3, the SR-7 was a dramatic shift for the industry as a whole, as it was the first SLR camera with a built-in CdS light meter. The meter was also connected to the shutter speed dial, so that the photographer simply had to select a shutter speed, and the meter would advise the required aperture for correct exposure.

The camera also included a mirror lock-up feature to facilitate use of the new 21mm super wide-angle lens

Single lens reflex camera with pentagon prism viewfinder;

Fully mechanical cloth focal plane shutter with speeds from 1-1/1000 sec plus B

Built-in CdS exposure meter coupled with shutter speed and film speed. Meter sensitivity is EV 1-17 at ASA 100

ASA Speeds from 6 to 6400

Reflex mirror with quick return system

Mirror Lock-up

Flash syncronisation (X and FP)

Fine microprism focusing with fresnel lens

Automatic reset film counter

Automatic shutter lock preventing accidental double exposure

Self timer

Quick bayonet "rapid change" lens mount.

For the first year of production the SR-7 had no on/off switch for the meter, relying on the camera being stored in a case to stop light getting to the metering cell and hence drawing current. Naturally many owners preferred to use their cameras without a case, and so many chose to affix electrical tape over the metering cell to stop current draw when the camera was not being used. After 12 months Minolta corrected this drawback with an update that included a meter on/off switch on the base of the body.

At the same time Minolta introduced a new mirror-lock-up mechanism in the camera. Previously the photographer had to turn the mirror-lock-up switch, then shoot a picture (basically a duplicate or wasted frame) to flip the mirror up, after which it stayed up until the switch was turned again. With the new mechanism this procedure was no longer required.

In 1965 Minolta changed the body styling of its cameras to a squarer style, more in keeping with changing design aesthetics, and called the new design the SR-7 (Model V). In addition, the camera had a new rectangular viewfinder, and a new Anglefinder V and Viewfinder Magnifier V were introduced. The Anglefinder V incorporated a prism, with the result that a brighter, unreversed image was achieved, a significant improvement. The Minolta logo was also moved from the flat front of the prism to the angled portion.

Seven is a number that crops up a lot in different religions.

Seven is also:

* The traditional number of Wonders of the Ancient World. There were seven, though only the Great Pyramid of Egypt still stands today.

* The figurative number of seas.

* The number of chakras.

* The number of basic principles of the bushido.

* The Heptarchy, from the (Greek for seven realm, is the name applied by historians to the period (500-850 CE) in English history after the Anglo-Saxon conquest of England, derived from the seven kingdoms of Northumbria, Mercia, East Anglia, Essex, Kent, Sussex, and Wessex, which eventually merged to become the Kingdom of England during the early 10th century.

* September was the seventh month in the ancient Roman calendar, as its name indicates. After the reform that led to the current order, the seventh month is July.

* Septidi was the seventh day of the decade in the French Revolutionary Calendar.

* The traditional count of Basque provinces as expressed in the slogan Zazpiak Bat.

* Cibola was one of the legendary Seven Cities of Gold the Spanish thought existed.

* septuplets is seven babies

* red, orange, yellow, green, blue, indigo, and violet were originally named as the seven colors of the rainbow, though blue and indigo are considered by some to be the same color.

* The number of spots on a common ladybug.

* The seven days of the week.

* Seven is the number of holes in the heads of most mammals.

* A neutral pH value between acidity and alkalinity.

* The atomic number of nitrogen.

* The number of carbon atoms in heptane, a hydrocarbon.

* The number of periods, or horizontal rows of elements, on the periodic table.

I caught 7 Geminids at my friends house last night, December 13th, 2012. I caught a few more once I got home as well. It's neat seeing the different colours. Green, purple and blue-white.

Checked out the powerboats on Porirua Harbour, this one had the biggest plume behind it by far as it is seen here turning to it's left! This week's theme is "Rule of Thirds" the red line across the front of the boat is on the bottom thirds line and the left thirds line passes through the air intake at the top of the boat, intersecting on the boat itself. I converted the image to black and white but left the red stripes on the boat.

We have Anger catching greeds dress on fire, while greed is reaching over to grab money from where lust makes her money, while lust is caressing prides leg, while pride stands strong in the center, where she belongs, as Envy touches her shoulder to show her presence while holding pictures of pride behind her back to hide her enviness. We have Gluttony eating envys dress, while sloth just stands there dead looking.

My first shot with my new toy, a Polaroid 500d close-up lens to go on Canon 70-200 L. Used in addition to the 1.4 teleconverter I'm very pleased with the quality on a tripod. I'm getting a nice distance to the subject of 40cm from the lens end so as not to scare the subject or block the natural light. This was even taken in light rain! Tiny dof though in the macro world which is going to take some getting used to as is free holding this hefty arrangement. There is a slight crop on this image.
