I spend a lot of time in the studio.... but it was cool to spend half a day in a recoding studio.

Well... learning and practicing mostly at the moment !

Unintentional abstract homage encountered amidst an ecclectic assembly of art.

Let's see if anyone can guess how I made the cloud effect in this photo. Photoshop was not involved, that's all I'll say.

My first lensbaby picture. I bought this lensbaby 3g a while back, but I have been finding it very hard to use in moving situations (just in general when you don't have much time to test and try). I figured I had a few hours to kill today - so this is the result. This lens is very hard use in my opinion - and it makes it extremely obvious to me; I have a lot to learn...

As you can probably tell - not too happy with this one, but we all have to learn some way :) Let me know what you think - and if you don't know what a lensbaby is, check out www.lensbabies.com :)

It’s amazing how many musicians there are in this town. Being a musician myself it’s the artists and performers that lure me to the streets of Portland. They are the real reason I return to these same streets every chance I have. After taking several shots of this young man I spoke with him for quite a while. He has one thing in common I find in all of the young artists I come in contact with; hope! He hopes. He has dreams for his future and actually believes he will accomplish his goals. Ah, to have the positive mindset of a younger man rather than the cynical hopeless “tude” of someone in the twilight of their experience. His hope made me do something I haven’t done for quite a long time; hope! I hope he succeeds.

I decided to make this day the day for looking after my guitar, a gorgeous PRS SE Custom 24 in quilted Tobacco Sunburst.

Day Twenty Two of Thirty days of Giving Thanks:

I am very thankful for Alberta, my beautiful Carvin acoustic guitar- not because of its monetary value by any means but for what she means to me and what experiences I have had with her. After six years of a 365, I cannot remember if I’ve shared this story, but I will anyways.

When I first learned to dream and go after things that I wanted to have, accomplish, see, or do I was utterly penniless and in dire straits. I had about $20 to my name for groceries every week and often went without so my wife could eat. The bills mounted, wolves were at my door breaking it down, and things were not changing. But I still believed in what I had learned, that we can focus and believe and make our dreams a reality- and this guitar was to be the test of that.

Up until then I’d achieved dreams but they were dreams that didn’t cost money, and if they did it was very minimal. This was a pretty big expense and I was paycheck to paycheck so the world would have told me that there was no way I’d ever have her in my hands. I visualized and pictured myself playing this, ordering the guitar: every imaginable detail. Before I knew it I had the money- but I had an expense come up that took precedent. I didn’t give up but kept on and doors opened up for overtime and additional income. Before I knew it, I had the money and ordered it.

I remember every detail of the day it came: tracking its delivery through UPS, running home on my lunch break to pick it up, opening the case, etc. Pictures really never do justice on the craftsmanship of Carvin Guitars.

The first time I played this guitar publicly was about 10 weeks later at my sister’s funeral. I had hidden the purchase from my family because I didn’t think they’d understand what this guitar meant to me as they never really understood what music meant to me; I knew they’d think I was being irresponsible. I decided that was stupid to hide behind such fears, and I sat down with my dad and talked about it and showed it to him- I sat by my sister’s casket and played haunting melody after melody; it was my way of “showing” it to her and my way of grieving.

Hands down, this is the best acoustic I’ve played on in my life… but more so when I pick up Alberta, yes I name all my guitars, I remember to believe in my dreams… and I NEVER want to forget that!

Trying to decide what to order but I’ve only got 10 bucks in my pocket. This is the G&L guitar’s dilemma.

wanted to take a simple shot of just my hands on my bass, to use as a picture to put these details to, but i tried a few other poses and liked this one the best.

For sydney siders,

I'm playing at the basement, circular quay on monday night - from 9:30 (though i'll be around from approximately 6:30 for dinner and drinks) with the OnFire Big Band

So please come down and say hi, and enjoy a night of hot jazz.

$15 entry, $10 for concessions (cheap for the basement!)

Freshly re-strung with Martin Marquis lights, which I am just trying for the first time and like a lot
