The alpaca (Vicugna pacos) is a species of South American camelid. It is similar to, and often confused with, the llama. However, alpacas are often noticeably smaller than llamas. The two animals are closely related and can successfully cross-breed. Alpacas and llamas are also closely related to the vicuña, which is believed to be the alpaca's wild ancestor, and to the guanaco. There are two breeds of alpaca: the Suri alpaca and the Huacaya alpaca. Alpacas are kept in herds that graze on the level heights of the Andes of Southern Peru, Western Bolivia, Ecuador, and Northern Chile at an altitude of 3,500 m to 5,000 m above sea level. Alpacas are considerably smaller than llamas, and unlike llamas, they were not bred to be working animals but were bred specifically for their fiber. Alpaca fiber is used for making knitted and woven items, similar to sheep's wool. These items include blankets, sweaters, hats, gloves, scarves, a wide variety of textiles and ponchos in South America, and sweaters, socks, coats and bedding in other parts of the world. 50679
Nadat Circus Roncalli enkele weken in Recklinghausen had opgetreden was het op 12 april 2016 weer tijd om naar een andere stad te reizen. Dit keer ging de reis naar Köln (de thuisstad van Circus Roncalli) en omdat het circus dat jaar 40 bestond werd het transport gesleept door de 38 2267 van het "Eisenbahnmuseum Bochum Dahlhausen". Genoeg reden dus om toen richting Duitsland te reizen! Nadat we hem de eerste keer in Duisburg konden fotograferen volgde we hem richting Opladen. De foto werd genomen vanaf een tijdelijke aangelegde voetgangersbrug.
Anno 2024 gebruikt Circus Roncalli nog steeds het spoor om zich te verplaatsen tussen de verschillende steden waar zij optreden.
Nadat de trein in Dusseldorf miszonden was door de "Fahrdienstleiter" passeert de trein hier met zo'n 60 minuten vertraging in Opladen richting Köln.

Auch 2024 wird der Zirkus Roncalli wieder mit dem Zug auf Tour gehen. 2016 feierte der Zirkus seinen 40. Geburtstag und bespannte den vom letztem Spielort aus Recklinghausen kommenden Zug im Abschnitt Essen Hbf - Köln-Kalk mit der Dalhausener 38 2267. Gäste konnten in den drei mitgeführten Wagen Platz nehmen. Als 50679 rollte der Zug am Morgen des 12. April 2016 auf das Halt zeigende Einfahrsignal von Ratingen Lintorf zu.
Am Zugschluss lief noch eine G1206 von Railflex mit, die den Zug zuvor bis Essen bespannte und die Rangierarbeiten in Köln übernahm.

The Roncalli Circus is pretty famous in Germany for regularly using rail to move between cities. To celebrate 40 years of using rail, they used steam loco (Dampflok) 38 2267 from the Eisenbahnmuseum in Bochum Dahlhausen to work DGS 50679 Essen Hbf - Köln-Kalk Nord Knf as it is seen passing Ratingen Lintorf. The circus had spent several weeks in Recklinghausen and was moving to it's home city of Köln.

The museum's B-52D, serial number 55-0679, was manufactured by Boeing Aircraft, Wichita, Kansas and delivered to the Air Force on June 5, 1957. During the Vietnam Conflict, it flew 175 combat missions in 41 months from November 1966 to October 1973. In 1975, it was involved in a ground mishap at March AFB that resulted in a broken wing spar permanently grounding the aircraft. 55-0679 last served as a weapons loading trainer before it was declared surplus and assigned to the museum.
Talking to a former B-52 WSO at Torrance Municipal it seems B-52's launched from March to bomb Vietnam with several refueling points along the route, the first being off Catalina Island.

I would automatically put this train down as 4185.013 (92 80 4185 013-4 D-VL) on DGS 52749 Dusseldorf Reisholz - Sythen Bbf sand in brown Falns running 30 minutes late, but an identical train of 18 brown Falns ran 45 minutes in front of this train with another RheinCargo diesel loco in charge.

One may have been operating a diverted service between Rommerskirchen and Hamm Osterfelder as I believe a train of brown Falns operates between these two points with a RheinCargo train in the evening and operates as DGS 50679 and DGS 50680 ?

Das Foto zeigt die Lokomotiven E10 145 und E41 322 im Bahnhof Köln-Deutz. Zu der Lok E10 145 konnte ich ermitteln, dass sie seit dem 27.04.1959 zum Bahnbetriebswerk Köln-Deutzerfeld gehörte. Die Lok wurde 1993 in 139 145-7 umgebaut und 2010 bei der Firma Steil in Eschweiler verschrottet. Von der Lok E41 322 konnte ich ermitteln, dass sie 2006 bei der Firma Bender in Opladen verschrottet wurde.

Das Verbindungsgleis der Hafenbahn vom Deutzer Hafen in den Mülheimer Hafen längs des Kölner Rheinufers wurde auch immer wieder für die Abstellung von Hotel- und Ausstellungszügen genutzt. Vom 01. bis 03.11.1950 machte der sogenannte "Marshallplanzug" (ERP Zug) neben den Messehallen Station. Die Aufnahmen stammen vermutlich vom 04.11.1950 und zeigen die Abfahrt des Zuges zum nächsten Ziel in Bergisch Gladbach. Vor der Bundesgartenschau 1957 wurde das Rheinufer in diesem Bereich umgestaltet. Der Gehweg kam hin zum Rhein und die Gleise in die Grünanlage.

Im Mai 1977 besuchte der Treno Italia das Deutzer Messegleis. Bei den Wagen handelte es sich aber überwiegend um SNCF Wagen. Climbing up Glastonbury Tor towards the remains of the Grade I Listed St Michael's Tower, the hill and its approaches are owned by the National Trust who offer free public access. In Glastonbury, Somerset.
Until two thousand years ago, the sea washed right to the foot of Glastonbury Tor, nearly encircling the cluster of hills. The sea was gradually succeeded by a vast lake. Although a peninsula, the Tor would have looked like an island from most angles of approach: an old Celtic name for Glastonbury is Ynys-witrin, the Island of Glass. Excavations on the Tor have revealed some Neolithic flint tools and Roman artifacts, indicating some use of the Tor since very ancient times. The terracing on the side of the hill, if man-made, may also date from Neolithic times.
The first significant occupation of the Tor dates from the Early Middle Ages (c.500-1000 AD). Remains discovered from this period include: a metalworker's forge; postholes; two 6th-century burials of teenagers oriented north-to-south; fragments of 6th-century Mediterranean amphorae (for wine or oil); many animals bones; and a worn hollow bronze head which may have topped a Saxon staff.
A second phase of occupation of the Tor between 900 and 1100 AD is known from the discovery of the head of a cross and what were probably monastic cells cut into the rock on the summit. The existence of a monastic community on the Tor is confirmed by a charter of 1243 granting permission for a fair to be held at the Monastery of St. Michael on the hill. Sites on high places are often dedicated to St. Michael the the Archangel; just one examples is Mont St-Michel in Normandy. The monastery and church on Glastonbury Tor were closely associated with the great Glastonbury Abbey in town below. Medieval pilgrims made the steep climb up Glastonbury Tor with hard peas in their shoes as penance.
The first monastic Church of St. Michael that stood on Glastonbury Tor was probably destroyed in the major earthquake of 1275. The church was rebuilt in the 14th century, and only the tower still stands today. St. Michael's Monastery on Glastonbury Tor fell into ruin after King Henry VIII's Dissolution of the Monasteries (c.1535) during the English Reformation. The last abbot of Glastonbury, Richard Whiting, was hanged on Glastonbury Tor on November 15, 1539.

Köln 01.05.2009: Im September 2001 konnte die Rheinparkbahn diese 1959 gebaute sogenannte Porsche Lok erwerben. Die von der Sollinger Hütte gebaute Lok war vorher im Hamburger Park Planten und Blomen und im Dortmunder Westfalenpark im Einsatz gewesen. 1971 verkehrte sie zur Buga in Köln.
Cologne, May 01, 2009: In September of 2001, the Rheinparkbahn (Rhine River Park Railway) had successfully purchased this interesting, 1959-built and so-called "Porsche Locomotive." Originally built by the Sollinger Hütte for the Hamburg Planten and Blomen Park and the Dortmund Westfalenpark, this colorful locomotive was also used at the West German Garden Fair (Buga) in Cologne, in 1971.

Köln März 1985: Im März 1985 begann die Schneeräumung. Die kleine Feldbahnlok half dabei mit. In March 1985, the snow removal began. The small Feldbahnlok helped here.
Zur Unterbringung von Ausstellern wurden auf dem Messegleis am Rheinufer Hotelzüge der Deutschen Schlaf- und Speisewagen Gesellschaft (DSG) abgestellt. Dabei handelte es sich um ältere Schlafwagen mit sechs Achsen. Die Wagen wurden autark über eine Kohleheizung beheizt. Die Frage der Entsorgung der Abwässer ist mir unklar. Möglicherweise konnten Toilettenanlagen in den Messehallen genutzt werden. Ein Speisewagen sorgte für die Verpflegung der Bewohner und wurde auch abends gut genutzt.

Für die Tunnelbauten in Köln-Deutz gab es Umleitungsstrecken parallel zu den Baustellen. Die Fotos zeigen den Betrieb auf den Umleitungsstrecken im März 1983 kurz vor der Eröffnung der Tunnelanlagen.

Köln August 1984: Präsentation der aufgearbeiteten Jung Feldbahndiesellok vom Typ EL105 bei der Kleinbahn im Rheinpark.
Köln im Sommer 1950: Im Jahre 1950 fand die 1900 Jahr Feier der Stadt Köln statt. Mit dem aus Düsseldorf übernommenen Material wurde bis 1952 eine Strecke längs des Deutzer Rheinufers betrieben. Startpunkt war die Deutzer Brücke, Endpunkt das Staatenhaus am heutigen Tanzbrunnen.
Cologne in the summer of 1950: In the same year, the City of Cologne celebrated its 1,900th anniversary. Using available "Liliputbahn" rolling stock from the nearby City of Düsseldorf, a track was built along the bank of the river Rhine, in Deutz. This miniature railway operated in Cologne for two years, until 1952, from the Deutz Bridge ("Deutzer Brücke") to Tanzbrunnen.

Die Diesellokomotiven 21 und 22 wurden 1981 und 1982 an die Häfen der Stadt Köln geliefert. Hersteller der Loks vom Typ G321 war die damalige Mak Werkstatt in Moers. Die Lok 21 wurde am 26.10.1981 ausgeliefert. Die Fotos zeigen die ersten Fahrten der Lok 21 am 27.10.1981.

Köln Oktober 1985: Regulärer Bahnbetrieb mit Schoema 3590. Die Lok wurde von der Firma Schwingel/Leverkusen zu einer Dampflok umgestaltet.
Bereits in den Jahren 1980 und 1981 wurden in Kalk und Vingst Tunnelanlagen für das Kölner Stadtbahnnetz in Betrieb genommen. Für die Tunnelbauten in Köln-Deutz gab es Umleitungsstrecken parallel zu den Baustellen. Die Fotos zeigen den Betrieb auf den Umleitungsstrecken im März 1983 kurz vor der Eröffnung der Tunnelanlagen.
