This little van was parked up by a spot we stopped at on our first hour or so in Iceland. After being told we’re not allowed to take our hire van on an ‘F-Road’ we spent much of the first hour in it driving through some pretty dodgy terrain and wondering just what exactly an F-Road was. I’m sure it would have been worse than what we were on…perhaps.
Near to this spot was some sort of power plant type building, and a long wooden walkway leading down to the sea where hot water and steam spewed from a drain. The water was pretty warm so it wouldn’t have surprised us to find the owner of this van having a spa somewhere near by.
It looks like a pretty cool van, though I’m glad our rental one was a little bigger and equipped with things such as a fridge, cooker, bed, etc.

1995 Jeep Wrangler 2.5L - At 8mpg, this is not my daily driver! But, I bought this from the original owner and it has only 179K miles. I put a bluetooth stereo in, put some new meats on, car seat covers and basically I am just good to go. My two car garage is maxed out so I am still trying to figure out where I can put this original roof during the summer and go topless!
Agnes was born in Scotland, and together with her parents and 7 siblings, she sailed to Australia on the 18th Aug 1854 from Liverpool, England.
One the voyage, two of her sisters died of cholera. The ship berthed in Adelaide on 16th November 1854.
She only survived for another year. In February 1855 she and her brother David contracted Typhoid and, sadly died.

The time has come to sell our van which brought us all around Australia without any problems. It´s a Ford Econovan Maxi Year 1998 with just under 120 000 km on the replacement engine which was built in last September (Odometer 275 000 km). It has a nice little kitchen-setup in the back , with everything you need for cooking. Just open the tailgate and start peparing your meals! Inside there are some cupboards and bookshelves, where you can put your clothes and stuff. The van has 2 solar panels on it´s roof, which are loading the nearly new 2nd battery (deep cycle). As long as the sun is shining you can run the fridge and have cold drinks even in the middle of nowhere and with power converter you can even charge your camera, mobile, laptop,... We only went to a caravan park every 2 weeks for washing. (cold drinks everytime) - shelves and cupboards for all kitchen stuff and groceries - pots, pan, cutlery,...(everything you need for cooking) - 20 l water-tank with sink-pump for dishhwashing - large matress with sheet, 3 pillows, blankets - cupboards and shelves for your clothes and other stuff - fan - lots of boxes to store your belongings easily accessible under the bed - 2 tents, 2 sleeping bags - 1 campingtable, + chair - tarpaulin with tentpoles to build a canopy - solarshower - camping lantern (rechargeable 12 or 240 V) - Camps 5 (free &cheap campsites all over Australia => very useful - other maps that might be useful, too - CD/ Radio with Ipod connection - 12>240 V power converter - some plugs to charge mobile phones The van is available in Brisbane now! The Altiplano (Spanish for high plain), in west-central South America, where the Andes are at their widest, is the most extensive area of high plateau on earth outside of Tibet. Lake Titicaca is its best known geographical feature.
At the end of the Pleistocene epoch, the entire extent of the Altiplano was covered by the vast Lake Ballivián. Remnants are Lake Titicaca, straddling the Peru–Bolivia border, and Poopó, a salt lake that extends south of Oruro, Bolivia. Salar de Uyuni, locally known as Salar de Tunupa, and Salar de Coipasa are two large dry salt flats formed after the Altiplano paleolakes dried out.
The term Altiplano is sometimes used to identify the altitude zone and the type of climate that prevails within it: it is colder than that of the tierra fria but not as cold as that of the tierra helada. Scientists classify the latter as commencing at an elevation of approximately 4,500 meters. Alternate names used in place of altiplano in this context include puna and páramos.

We took the backward route from Tupiza northwards to the Reserva Nacional de Fauna Andina Eduardo Avaroa and further to Salar de Uyuni salt plain; snow-covered volcanoes at the horizon line, red-coloured rocks and sand, a few lost peaceful towns, and slow 4WD journey through the land of thin air - that's Altiplano.
One of the nights we spent in a small village called San Antonio de Lipéz - strolling through the village I accidentally discovered this old ancestor of modern Landcruisers...
