It's a picture perfect late spring afternoon as Amtrak train 449, the westbound Boston section of the Lakeshore Limited crosses Main Street at MP 177.1 on modern day CSXT's Berkshire Sub, the former Boston and Albany mainline. Rising to the left is the landmark 1872 clock tower that has framed up countless photos of trains over the past century and a half. Just out of sight behind me is the surviving Richardsonian style Union Station where the Rutland once joined coming down from the north and NYC's Harlem Line met up from points south.

A napokban napvilágot látott egy olyat tervezet mely szerint a 47-es számú vasútvonalon Komló - Mecsekjánosi szakaszát, valamint Komló vasútállomást elbontanák. A személyforgalom 2023.08.01-től szünetel, azonban tehervonatok azóta is heti rendszerességgel közlekednek. Kérdés hogy mi lenne így a komlói kővonatokkal, valamint hogy milyen fejlesztést tervez a városvezetés a vasút helyén. Remélhetőleg azonban nem valósulnak meg ezek a tervek és a jövőben majd személyvonatok is újra befuthatnak a város központjában elhelyezkedő vasútállomásra.

A tavaly készült képen a Kárpát Vasút 449 315-ös Bobója tolat Komló vasútállomáson. A vonat úticélja a 120-as vonal Békéscsaba - Lőkösháza közötti szakasza volt, ahol nagy erőkkel zajlott a felújítás és kétvágányosítás.

Amtrak train 449, the Boston section of the Lake Shore arrives at Framingham on Main 1 at MP 21.4 on the the MBTA/Keolis Worcester Main Line, the first stop on their thousand mile overnight trip west to the windy city. This is the former Boston and Albany Railroad which dates to 1834 and has had continuous passenger service ever since...191 years and counting!

Originally known as South Framingham (because the historic center of the community is about two miles north) the Railroad Romanasque style depot at right was built in 1884-85 and designed by Henry Hobson Richardson and constructed by the Norcross Brothers Company. After being shuttered in the Penn Central era and falling into disrepair the station was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1975 and restored a decade later. It has been home to assorted restaurants over the years and these days is a Brazilian style steakhouse.

Just a few minutes after Amtrak 448 (the esstbound Boston section of the Lakeshore Limited) crossed over and climbed east on Main 2, westbound counterpart 449 slid into view coming downgrade into town on Main 1.

This is the classic view toward the mountains looking off the Junction Road overpass at CP147 on modern day CSXT’s Berkshire Subdivision, the one time Boston and Albany Railroad mainline.

Akár a szentesi retróhétvége záróprogramja is lehetett volna és végülis néhány szerencsésnek az is volt. A Kárpátvasút Bobója közeledik Lakitelekre Res kocsikkal, hogy aztán másnap reggel megkezdődjön a rakodás Tiszaugon. Az elkövetkezendő hetekben összesen 9000 betonalajat szállítottak el Tiszaugról Kiskunfélegyházára, amit azóta be is építettek a 147-es vasútvonalba.

It could have been the closing program of the retro weekend in Szentes, and for some lucky ones it was. The red Bobó from Kárpátvasút approaches Lakitelek with Res wagons, so that the loading can begin the next morning in Tiszaug. In the following weeks, a total of 9,000 concrete crossties were transported from Tiszaug to Kiskunfélegyháza, which have since been laid in the line 147.
