There are 42 locomotives in this class built by ADtranz Pafawag in Poland for the PKP but the deal fell through and they were purchased by FS in 2003 & 2004. Primarily intended for freight work, they also work EC passenger trains to Brennero.
E405.028 was acquired in 2003.

Another of my 'wish list' shots was to chase and shoot a train on the new branch from Coffeen to Deer Run mine in Hillsboro. After shooting the NKP 8100 we ran over to Hillsboro to see what was running and voila'! A 405 train was calling signals after running around their train at Karnes siding. Here it is heading back north towards Litchfield and the connection to the BNSF.
