Union Pacific Railroad U50 38 at Council Bluffs, Iowa on June 13, 1965, Kodachrome by Lou Schmitz, Chuck Zeiler collection. Built July 1964 (c/n 35098), placed in service July 27, 1964, retired September 1973 and traded to GE, the U50 was two U25B's on a common frame, utilizing span bolsters and trucks from retired gas-turbine locomotives. To reduce weight, aluminum wiring was used, which deteriorated in 10 years and required replacement. The railroad chose to trade the locomotives for newer power. The triangular shaped items on the running board, located almost over the center of each span bolster, are the sandboxes. I’m not aware of the actual design challenges at GE that resulted in locating the sandboxes in these locations, but there was concern about the ingestion of sand and sand dust into the diesel, both at the fill time and the actual use of sand for traction. The Southern Pacific purchased three U50 locomotives, and they lasted a bit longer.
The Panzerspähwagen 38(t) functioned as command and recon vehicle in the airborne missile tank destroyer platoon.
It had a similar turret with “Luchs”, armed with a 2cm gun to against enemy infantries approaching the platoon. One ATGM was mounted on the right side of the turret.
Additional radio and star antenna improved the ability of communication during airborne missions.

Enmon: After all this time, you're just going to take her away from us?
Mary: Sorry, but she's going to be the Sybil in the Temple of Dibella in Markarth.
Enmon: I've heard of the life of luxury they live there. Maybe that's not such a bad thing.
Fjotra: Will I get to meet the goddess?
Lamae: Of course! The Sybil is the only priestess in direct contact with Dibella. *I've seen her before. She cured me of.. a serious problem. She's beautiful.

That is how many angels I count in this one image, and that doesn't include the plethora of cherubs seen just about everywhere you don't see an angel.
This is a rework of my February 2010 shoot inside New Bedford's Saint Anthony of Padua Parish.
I tried to photograph the interior this this year for the Christmas but was told that "the floors would not be waxed in time". Not sure what that meant. I also asked to photograph the interior at night but was told I would not be able to do that either because the cost to light the place up is too high...
Oh well, for now, this will have to do.
Connexions Buses will take over the 38 route from Gledhow to the White Rose Centre in June, currently operated by Yorkshire Tiger & First. S211TDW was out on 6th June on a proving run and is shown here at Kirkstall leisure centre... a scene which is set to become a common sight.
Engines 38 and 39 await assignment at 104th St on Chicago's southeast side in July, 1980. At this time service was very sporadic on the line as it was mostly used to store freight cars.

The hydraulic era ended at London Paddington late on Saturday 26 February 1977 as D1013 and D1023 brought the Western Tribute railtour to the stops.
Thankfully for all us old clag heads, it was merely the end of the BR hydraulic era, as a group of young enthusiasts beavered away behind the scenes with the aim of bringing a Maybach back to the mainline.
And that's how we ended up with a Whizzo at Canterbury West in December 2014...
