Staying at home, playing with my stuff.

Psst ...... over here!

I know that I did one of these last week but I am still on the hunt for the perfect shot! I like this because it is a blue-eyed one this time. Unfortunately, the stem was just a bit too wide to get both eyes! Nevermind - I'll keep on trying!

I also managed to get one munching on a fly - it's a bit gross which is why I didn't choose it for today's shot!

This is a note I wrote to my 7-yr old daughter a few weeks ago. I had almost forgotten about it until she showed it to me again today. I love that she is such a great reader. :)

Fading beauty

A case of grabbing a photo opportunity when you can. Very fortunate to get this today - it only lasted about 30 seconds!

So many textures!

Also, I think I need a Gorilla Pod for my bike rides, is anyone interested in helping me with this? Trade a print or something.

Going through a lot of shoes today. We really need to stop keeping all of the shoes!

I decided now is the right time to set some mini photography assignments on my blog for those forced into Social Distancing so they continue their Photography

Cycling in the pitch dark next to the canal is the new extreme sport - SPLASH!

inside my bag...camera, cell phone, check book, planner and notebook, business cards, ipod, magazine, change, pill box, peppermint oil, lip gloss, hair ties, usb drive, audio recorder, cell phone charger, papers, tissues, pre de provence shea butter, throat lozenge, oatmeal.

Saw this beetle mooching across my living room floor so scooped it up and back lit it with a torch.

Not been in the mood today so this little fella did me a favor.

I wonder where it is now and what tomorrow will bring.

This is number 289 of my 366.

Included in my "2012 - 366 Days" project

What a funny day of weather - sun, showers, thunder, torrential rain, sun again! Just a quickie - liked the shape of this spent clematis flower.

Orion and a waxing crescent moon seen at Olin Park.

UPDATE from Cory

growing up we moved around a lot. Like a lot. Some military kids always get away with saying they moved a lot, but we did. We didn't have a lot of money growing up so I assume now the reason we moved was cheaper living and or closer to a job of some kind. So we never had a place we could really call home. But, home was wherever my father, my sister and I were together. Finally after some dramatic life experiences, my father bought a home in Lone Rock. We loved it. For growing up as country kids that grew up on gravel roads, this 641 person town was big enough for us. we loved it. we had friends. I had a basketball court. I played little league there. It was my first and only hometown. I feel it made me who i am today. I went back a few years ago and coached little league. unpaid, unthanked and 0-7 I still had the time of my life. I know what it's like to be one of those kids. I know what it's like to be from a small town. I've travel quite a bit and lived in various cities much bigger than Lone Rock, but it's so a part of who I am. That sign, everyone knows. It's what makes us, us. I am Lone Rock. I'm proud of my small town. We ain't much, but I'd rather be from there than anywhere else in the world. It's unique. Everyone town in Wisconsin seems to be. So thats it, I always wanted a Lone Rock tattoo, I just didn't know in what form it would come in, once I decided, I knew.

I met Cory today while struggling to find a new stranger for my "100 strangers" project, his leg caught my eye as we were beside one another on a intersection waiting to cross. I was drawn to the "Lone Rock" tattoo on his calf, only on the basis that my parents were raised in Richland County and many a time (both past and present) I have passed through Lone Rock in travels. With a population just under 1,000 people I expect few actually know of it's existence. But if you have traveled through most undoubtedly you have seen the billboard bearing the slogan "We are the coldest in the nation, with the warmest heart." Until now I didn't know what this meant: according to the official village website for Lone Rock the temperature on January 30, 1951 at the Tri-County Airport was recorded at 53 below zero (Fahrenheit) was the coldest in the nation. Mystery of last 25.5 years of my life solved, it only took meeting a man who has it tattooed on his leg to make me research this.

Back to Cory though, he ventured into the Triangle Market and I was still entranced by his tattoo: so I waited for him to come out, and when he did I explained the concept of the "100 strangers" project. He was more then gracious to allow me to photograph him, as well as his tattoo to make a nice diptych of sorts to tell the story behind why I took his photo. I did explain that my normal subject matter has become hard to come by with the new regulations put out by the city and so I am making an effort to take anyone's photo who has a story to tell. With hopes, Cory will find this photo and be able to share it with his friends/family/ and anyone else he so wishes! In haste I hope he also contacts me to share why he has it tattooed on his leg, as we never fully discussed the meaning.

(On a side note, these images were unaltered aside from placing them side by side in photoshop elements 7. I believe that is just the way it was meant to be)
