Petri Computor 35, with CC Petri 2.8/40 lens.

Compact camera, produced from 1970 until 1974. Clearly inspired by the Konica C35, so it has the programmed shutter and rangefinder focussing, but it differs in details. The exposure metering in not controlled by a needle displayed in the viewfinder, but by two lights (green/orange) for acceptable or risky shutter speeds. They are visible on top and in the viewer.

The film speed is set with a ring around the lens and not with a fiddly ring inside the filter thread. As the camera has no dial for exposure compensation, you can manipulate the exposure very quickly here.

Yesterday, I saw an article about the Yashica brand coming back. It really isn't-- except if you count an attachment lens thingie for your phone as a comeback. Anyway, all the Yashica talk just made me want to get up early to take out my old Yashica 35 (pre-Electro model) and admire this nearly 60-year-old beauty and snap a few photos of it. Here is one of the shots. It is really obvious that Yashica was "inspired" by the Nikon S and early Leica M body designs.

The Icarex 35 comes with an interchangeable finder assembly. There are two pentaprism finders, with and without metering, and the waist level finder, shown here.

I tried the pentaprism and found it to produce a very dark, indistinct finder image. It was almost impossible to focus accurately with that viewfinder. So I changed it against the waist level finder, and my perception of this camera changed fundamentally.

The S-Xenar is one of the rarer lenses found on Rollei 35's made during two production years in 1972-1973 (About 30,000 chrome and a black version pieces were made, also about 200 were made in black with brown Alligator printed leather). The lens is a single coated Tessar clone by Schneider-Kreuznach.

During the early 1970s, Rollei wanted to bring its pricing down and the S-Xenar was less expensive. When Schneider could not meet the delivery schedule for Rollei production requirements, Rollei dropped the S-Xenar and went back to producing the Tessar under its Carl Zeiss license. As with the practical difference between the "Germany" and "Singapore" models, the consensus among long time users finds no difference in materials, build quality or optical performance between the Tessar and S-Xenar. Collectors, however, downgrade the pricing on an S-Xenar model.

Schneider-Kreuznach is also one of the finest German lens makers ranking possibly second to Carl Zeiss. Today Schneider-Kreuznach is noted for exceptional cinema and projection lenses.

I'm not a huge fan of this shot, but one thing I did really like about it is the texture of the petal. Plus, Hibiscus are my favorite flowers of all time. So, there.

Last of the Vietnam photos... possibly. This was taken hours before the 25 of August, but it was too good to discard. Saw these dancers at the Sailing Club next to the Intercontinental Resort. The food, drinks and service at the Sailing Club was beyond exceptional, and the fire dancing is just the icing on the cake. There are more shots from the place in the Phu Quoc Album on Flickr if you want to see more. What a great work conference and lots of magnificent photo ops. More next week.
