Like most parents, I love to hear my children playing together. Tonight they were crumpling up pieces of paper and pretending they were snowballs. I thought I had my photo of the day, but then my daughter asked me to get some photos. She said, "You need some photos of us really living life, not doing homework!" I couldn't agree with her more. In this photo they are making snow angels.

Belém Cultural Centre, Lisbon Portugal

The Cultural Centre of Belém (CCB) is located in Santa Maria de Belém, near the riverfront west of Lisbon. It is the largest building with cultural facilities in Portugal. The CCB has 140,000 m² of construction area and was prepared in a very short period (1989–1992). The client of the project was the Portuguese State. Completed in 1992, it is the work of architects Vittorio Gregotti and Manuel Salgado; the interior was planned by Daciano Costa. The CCB was initially built to accommodate the European Presidency, but adapted to provide spaces for conferences, exhibitions and artistic venues, such as opera, ballet and symphony concerts, in addition to political and research congresses, high security meeting halls, and a 7,000 m² exhibition area. It has already hosted important events like the summit meeting of the Heads of State of the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE).

The decision to construct the CCB occurred in January 1988, as part of the Portuguese government's need to accommodate Portugal's European Union Presidency in 1992. The facility would also serve as a core facility for cultural and leisure activities after its term, and serve as a venue for conferences and exhibitions. An international architectural competition was held and six proposals were invited to submit a preliminary project, out of the 57 submissions. The final proposal, submitted by the architectural consortium of Vittorio Gregotti (Italy) and Atelier Risco at the time led by Manuel Salgado (Portugal), was designed to include five modules: a Conference Centre, a Performing Arts Centre, an Exhibition Centre, Hotel and complementary equipment zone, but only the Conference Centre, the Performing Arts Centre and the Exhibition Centre were initially constructed.

Starting in July 1989, the buildings along the waterfront were demolished and many of the infrastructures were re-established. By January 1992, modules 1, 2 and 3 were completed and ready to accommodate the institutions, administration, communication centre and security of the European Union Presidency. A year later the Conference Centre and small auditorium and the Exhibition Centre were opened to the public. By fall of the same year the main auditorium was inaugurated.

Its designed, aligned with the Jerónimos' Monastery, intentionally fronts the Império Square, and consists of structural blocks with courtyards and "patio-squares" that interconnect the three principal structures. Each centre is separated by transversal "streets", that link the building's interiors which are extensions of the city of Lisbon's historical urban structure. The centrality of the main building extends the urban fabric to the interior creating a public space. This architectural style can best be interpreted by Santana and Matos (2010) who refer to as the "patios-squares" versus the "narrow streets" a conflicting dynamic structure.

With highly sophisticated equipment and a wide variety of installed services, it has several areas with different roles:

1The Conference Centre provides a close link with the most varied business and professional sectors; conceived in order to support conferences and meetings, as well as the CCB operational services, stores, a restaurant, two bars, parking areas and the Jacques Delors European Information Centre;

2The Performing Arts Centre, the core of the site's cultural and artistic activities, it includes two auditoriums, the larger holding 1429 seats and a smaller with 348 seats, a rehearsal hall with 72 seats, in order to support film, opera, ballet, theatre and music events;

3The Exhibition Centre, which includes four galleries for exhibitions of modern art, architecture, design and photography, in addition to coffee and concessionary shops; it also, since June 2007, has been the venue for the Foundation of Modern and Contemporary Art (the Berardo Museum Collection);

4The Educational Area provides a close link between the Foundation and schools of various levels as well as other institutions;

5The Formation Area is a service of the Belém Cultural Centre Foundation; courses, seminars and Conferences are directed towards teaching and learning, as well as the acquisition of further knowledge, skills and specialisation in the different areas of the arts, and culture.

2017-India."Tenemos empleos ke odiamos para komprar mierda ke no necesitamos".

Greetings random one. Welcome to day 348 of my already completed but not yet posted 365-day selfportrait project.

So upon finishing the editing of this photo, I decided it would be neat to write “pimp” on the wooden wall. You know, add it in as if it was already on the wall via graffiti. This wall has character, so I figured I could pull it off.

I’ve actually added “pimp” to the shot three times already. Day 337, day 346, and on pimpexposure, the CLASSIC shot of the hitman killing the cowboy is rocking the back wall in cowboy juice.

However I couldn't get it to look natural in this shot. So Instead of scrapping the idea entirely, I decided to sneak it into the shot in a more ambiguous place. Similar almost to that of a painter who signs their name as the last thing to add to a finishing painting.

I guess another word for that would be watermark in the photoworld.

HOWEVER. . .

Do realize that for the most part I despise watermarks. They almost always completely detract from the image, some being worse than others. They make pictures look like stock photography mass downloaded from walmartphotos.com or something. If someone is going to “steal” your image via a screengrab and use it for his or her benefit, fuck it. If I didn’t want someone to steal it, I just wouldn’t publicly post them on the Internet. Trashing them up with watermarks just makes everyone lose, including the artist.

Which leads me back to this idea. I developed this quick raw little “pimp” emblem that I am going to attempt to add and hide in every picture I finish from here on out (unless the image isn't suitable for it). It’ll be small, barely detectable, but it’ll be there starting with THIS shot. So I guess it's where's waldo pimp over at my place with every new post. And I as a side benefit I even am lucky enough to get a watermark by default.

pimptastic!

The shot at hand? I stopped by this recreational area during my evening errands to bang out my daily shot. The light emanating off of this particular wall caught my eye. I set the shutter to like 1/4 second and 1/6 second to capture in camera motion while keeping 1 leg in focus. Took about 10 outtakes to get it done. I’ve done a few of these shots in the past. I think this one came out pretty decent.

Seen running along the lengthy Anlaby Road with a good number of passengers aboard, it's easy to see why the 154 is a mix of these and deckers….

Miso: Would you get down here? She's going to just take a picture and we'll go home.

Fudge: It's so scary way up here! I hope no one can see me!

Miso: *sigh*

I love these steps!

Sweet stray in Lagos, Algarve (Portugal). Thanks to local people and an English couple who already lives in Lagos for several years, many stray cats are sterilized.

Ready to be addressed and stamped.

A cat picture of course. Had a bonfire alternative night!

Max and her oldest boy waving goodbye at the airport. Sigh. I was such fun to be with her and her wonderful family.

More photos of the trip once I get caught up.

While I was dressed today had some fun trying on some outfits for tomorrow. Wife likes the longer one. My sister has moved out to her own place so she is having a house warming dinner party for a select few and the theme is "Blues Night" so basically you have to come in dressed in blue!

My dad is moving out. Please don't say you're sorry. It's okay.

Because you're as tameless as an ocean.

I want to love you but commotion swallows me whole.
