One of my favorite flowers for this time of the year. I do not have Hollyhocks in my garden, but I remember them fondly as wildflowers growing in my home country, Isreal :-)

A classic cottage garden staple, hollyhocks (Alcea rosea) bloom mid-summer with numerous flowers on tall spikes. Many of the most common varieties are biennials, meaning they complete their lifecycle over 2 years. The first year is spent growing foliage and storing energy. In the second year, the stalks shoot up, flowers bloom and seeds form. However, there are also many varieties that behave like short-lived perennials and will flower in their first year when planted early enough in spring or started indoors in winter.

Een van de fotostops tijdens de Classical Tour Mat ‘54 op 5 juni 1995 was station Bodegraven. Hier staan een man of 250 exact dezelfde foto te maken. Tweewagenstel 348 (ex-NS 381) staat te wachten totdat iedereen zijn plaatje heeft geschoten. Het stationsgebouw, de oude gele afvalbakken, de houten schuifdeur van de fietsenstalling met het klassieke pictobord dragen bij aan de sfeer.

Vanwege een stremming van het spoortraject tussen Groningen en Assen vanwege werkzaamheden, werd de afvoertrein van Onnen naar Kijfhoek omgeleid via Leeuwarden. Tijdens het wachten op deze afvoertrein werden nog enkele personentreinen op de foto gezet.Bij een strakblauwe lucht passeert treinstel 348 "Evert van Benthem" van Arriva de groep fotografen die stond te wachten op de afvoertrein.
