One of my favorite flowers for this time of the year. I do not have Hollyhocks in my garden, but I remember them fondly as wildflowers growing in my home country, Isreal :-)

A classic cottage garden staple, hollyhocks (Alcea rosea) bloom mid-summer with numerous flowers on tall spikes. Many of the most common varieties are biennials, meaning they complete their lifecycle over 2 years. The first year is spent growing foliage and storing energy. In the second year, the stalks shoot up, flowers bloom and seeds form. However, there are also many varieties that behave like short-lived perennials and will flower in their first year when planted early enough in spring or started indoors in winter.

Hondekopstel 348 (381) tijdens een fotostop langs de houten vlonder die ooit als perron diende te Rotterdam Bergweg. Dit in het kader van de Classical Tour Mat ‘54 op 5 juni 1995. Lekker met een man of 200 dezelfde foto maken. 😉 Maar ik had het nooit willen missen!

Op vrijdag 8 oktober werd een rit door de provincie Groningen gemaakt om de laatste rood/witte Spurts op de foto te zetten. Als eerste werd de lijnen naar Delfzijl en Roodeschool bezocht. Op beide lijnen was helaas geen rood/witte Spurt actief op deze dag. Alleen Spurts in de zachtblauwe kleur konden op deze lijnen op de foto worden gezet.

Daarna werden de lijnen naar Veendam en Bad Nieuweschans bezocht. Hier reden deze dag nog enkele rood/witte spurts . Een combinatie van een gekoppelde rood/witte en zachtblauwe Spurt kon deze dag ook nog worden gefotografeerd. Deze combinatie is wanneer alle Spurts binnenkort de zachtblauwe kleur hebben, niet meer mogelijk om op de foto te zetten. Arriva treinstel 348 "Evert van Benthem" als trein 37854 onderweg naar Veendam.
