As the days get shorter and darker, it's getting tougher to find a picture every day. Today, I needed to call in at the Owen-Jones residence, so whilst I was there, I decided to peek into the Polecat Pottery to see what was going on. Mark had been working on this lovely pot, so I snapped that. Is anyone else watching 'The Great British Throw Down' on BBC2 on Tuesday evenings? Seeing the lovely things in the Polecat Pottery and that programme both make me want to 'have a go'.

I was out for the day with some photography friends. We went to Cambridge Market where we met the lovely Emma. Emma runs her vintage stall called 'Ribbons and Rags' every Friday in Cambridge. Prior to that she travelled across the UK with a vintage fayre company.
My friends and I asked Emma if we could take some photos of her, she very kindly agreed and I explained about the stranger project and asked her if she would mind taking part, she was quite happy to.
Emma has some lovely vintage items on her stall, well worth a visit, I hope to return before too long. I couldn't resist purchasing a few vintage bottles.

30 - Astrakhan
Not my first plate from Astrakhan, but one of the very few plates not from the "Big 3" here last year.

I don't have anything great to offer today, the sky is a little uninteresting at this time of year but as I have my polariser with me along with my 16-35 mm which is a rare occasion I thought I would have a go at this longtail boat with it being just the right angle to the light to make the colours pop. To make it a little more interesting I thought I would share my thoughts too.
When I first arrived the tide was right out which wasn't ideal, the boat was sitting at a slight angle and I would rather have a shallow covering of water preferably over a rock to get ripple highlights.
What about those islands? I'm not keen on them going all the way across a vertical image, a gap would be nicer on one side preferably on the side of the light direction. But then what about the boats on the left? Maybe if I can get them into the same gap too.
Then there is the long tail boat itself, the main subject of course, which has to line up with something of interest in the foreground. This rock is an old friend and thankfully the boatman parked up just in the right place the night before although I would have preferred if the boat was a little closer. I did consider pulling the boat in slightly but then the rope would end up in the way of the islands. Maybe I can zoom in slightly without losing the rock.
The nicest element I could add to complete the final image though was a white sail boat which was sailing around the islands at the time. If I could time it so it was in the frame against the darker island on the right preferably between the humps and within that triangle created by the rope then that would really add a nice touch.
But then I still have to wait for the tide to come in to cover that rock which I guessed would be roughly an hour at least. Will the light be too harsh by then? Will the sail boat still be around? Will the longtail even be there anymore!?? Will my knees give way while I crouch down with my shorts almost in the water whilst trying to manually focus all of this!?! I'm going for a coffee!
Well, it's not going to win any awards by any means, I polarised the heck out of it but it was satisfying to know that patience can pay off occasionally :)

Thirty Strangers - One Question: What makes you happy?
I'm done! woooo! Yesterday Logan and I drove down to Geelong to sell my Nikon D5000 to Bek Huffer and have a photoshoot. Little did she know, that I had saved my last one of these for this occasion. The weather was absolutely hectic driving there, on the freeway there were signs warning of Severe Thunderstorms and possible Flash Flooding. A perfect day for a photoshoot! haha.
The weather couldn't get us down though, I got a couple of shots, but I mostly ended up modeling for Bek so she could learn all of the controls for her new camera!
This Pose is okay for Today ???
