Manchester's Metrolink tram system is currently undergoing a major expansion of the network which includes the delivery of a batch of 48 new trams (numbered 3001-48) which will supplement the existing fleet. The new cars are the M5000 Flexity Swift built by Bombardier and are easily spotted in their eyecatching new livery, which will eventually be applied to the older trams after they have been refurbished. From my own observations at present the new cars would appear to be confined to the Piccadilly - Eccles route, although I may be wrong. Here we see car 3003 turning from Piccadilly Gardens into Mossley Street bound for Eccles.

This was the first of the M5000 trams to enter service back in December (supposedly - but 3002 was the actual very first M5000 to enter service back on the 16th december - thanks to Toffski for this info).
Chicago, Burlington & Quincy Class S-4 #3003 was donated to the City of Burlington, IA, by the CB&Q in 1961. The Hudson type (4-6-4) locomotive is on display just north of the Amtrak depot. When this photo was taken, it appeared to be nearing completion of another paint job, hence the black paint sprayed over the sides of the firebox and the smokebox (www.rgusrail.com/iacbq3003.html).
