[003/365]
So I left London yesterday to come to Manchester. I have exams in January so I decided to come back early to get revision done.
After a day pretty much spent in London Camera Exchange talking about old school film cameras, I had fun snapping away, the only problem was it was actually freezing and I couldn't keep my hand steady, it shows in my pictures :/
Seriously my hands were swollen and could bare push down on the shutter
literally just chose this one over the other pic this very second!
For those who care... I study Chemical Engineering :)

Assignment 3 for Project 52 www.project52.org/
I've been mulling over ideas all week. I had lots of ideas, but many needed props I don't own. Then today in my daughter's bedroom I just grabbed some of her things and put them together.
A homage to my daughter!
This was not the still life I had envisaged.
I had a lot of trouble shooting it as I don't have any studio equipment-no clamps for holding fabric or reflectors etc. So I just draped some white fabric over the table, and the backs of chairs. I also tried to use off camera flash but my trigger wouldn't play ball :-(
The lighting is halogen ceiling lights, a pendant light, window light (The daylight is still limited here in Scotland at this time of year)and I angled a headtorch onto a silver emergency blanket to bounce some light onto the objects.
So timewise:
Idea and composition 15 minutes,
Shooting and faffing about with lighting: 60 minutes. Hand held.
Number of shots 60
Selection and editing 5 minutes.
This is my first attempt at something like this and I am quite pleased with the result. There is a pink cast to the photo, and although I quite like it, I don't know why it's there, and so it bothers me from that respect.
Also, some ghosting of the title-why is that?

A Standard Missile-3 (SM-3) is launched from Pearl Harbor-based guided-missile cruiser USS Lake Erie (CG 70) to intercept a threat representative target as part of a Missile Defense Agency test of the sea-based capability under development. This was part of a multiple simultaneous engagement involving two ballistic missile targets that were intercepted about 250 miles from Kauai and approximately 100 miles above the Pacific Ocean. The SM-3 was one of two interceptors launched from the ship that collided with two ballistic missile targets launched from the Pacific Missile Range Test Facility in Kauai, Hawaii, within minutes of one another. Well, I've just changed my mind and this will my now be my new and improved day 3 shot. I didn't find this until now and sunflare gets me every time. Gee, I'm not indecisive or anything. I think the hardest part of the 365 for me will be committing to one pick.
Rodelyn nearly escaped me as I was working in the lounge and pondered whether she would make a good candidate for the 100 Strangers project. She was meeting with a professor / instructor and upon finishing, they both got up from her table and walked out the door together, making it feel odd to get up and potentially stop the both of them. Conveniently though, she came back and sat down alone at the very same table!
Rodelyn is the very first Filipino I have knowingly met, yet I was completely unable to guess her origins. Given the chance, I ventured a guess that she was Persian. Although completely far from the truth, ironically she was born in Yemen, so I was partially-correct in my guess to her origins (at least her place of birth). She came to the US and started as a music performance major, yet changed to international studies with a focus on human rights and race relations. She minors in both music and African diaspora studies, yet this odd combination reflects both her past and her present interests.
Episode #3 was interesting in the fact that this "one that got away" actually came back and I managed to catch my originally anticipated shot for the day!
P.S. I LOVED her hair.
This picture is #3 in my 100 strangers project, started on February 14th, 2009. Find out more about the project and see pictures taken by other photographers at www.100Strangers.com
I got my hair did! Disclaimer to the people who are meeting me in Italy: My hair will not look like this again. I do not know how to flat iron, nor dry my hair with a round brush. So this girl will not be in Italy. The curly haired, frizzy girl will be there.

Few weeks ago I got an haircut in the photobooth while shooting photo strips.
I also cut my beard
I managed to get a 3 mm haircut and beard in 24 photos, even in the machine broke after few minutes.

Introduced in May 1972, the 3.0CSL was a homologation special built to make the car eligible for racing in the European Touring Car Championship. The "L" in the designation meant "leicht" (light), unlike in other BMW designations, where it meant "lang" (long). The lightness was achieved by using thinner steel to build the unit body, deleting the trim and soundproofing, using aluminium alloy doors, bonnets, and boot lids, and using Perspex side windows. The five hundred 3.0CSLs exported to the United Kingdom were not quite as light as the others, as the importer had insisted on retaining the soundproofing, electric windows, and stock E9 bumpers on these cars.
Initially using the same engine as the 3.0CS, the 3.0CSL was given a very small increase in displacement to 3,003 cc (183.3 cu in) by increasing the engine bore by one quarter of a millimetre. This was done in August 1972 to allow the CSL to be raced in the "over three litre" racing category, allowing for some increase in displacement in the racing cars. In 1973, the engine in the 3.0CSL was given another, more subtantial increase in displacement to 3,153 cc (192.4 cu in) by increasing the stroke to 84 mm (3.3 in). This final version of the 3.0CSL was homologated in July 1973 along with an aerodynamic package including a large air dam, short fins running along the front fenders, a spoiler above and behind the trailing edge of the roof, and a tall rear wing. The rear wings were not installed at the factory, but were left in the boot for installation after purchase. This was done because the wings were illegal for use on German roads. The full aero package earned the racing CSLs the nickname "Batmobile".
Chris Amon, Winner of 6 Hours Race 1973 at Nürburgring with BMW 3.0 CSLIn 1973, Toine Hezemans won the European Touring Car Championship in a 3.0CSL and co-drove a 3.0CSL with Dieter Quester to a class victory at Le Mans. Hezemans and Quester had driven to second place at the 1973 German Touring Car Grand Prix at Nürburgring, being beaten only by Chris Amon and Hans-Joachim Stuck in another 3.0CSL. 3.0 CSLs would win the European Touring Car Championship again in every year from 1975 to 1979.
The 3.0CSL was raced in the IMSA GT Championship in 1975, with Sam Posey, Brian Redman, and Ronnie Peterson winning races during the season.
The first two BMW Art Cars were 3.0CSLs; the first was painted by Alexander Calder and the second by Frank Stella.
What to say .....
I did a year 3, all 366 days. I literally phoned in some of them ;) About 20 shots from cell phone only.. those were a bear to get organized (finding hidden folders almost killed me.) I only have a couple shots from work... which was important for me. i really did not like having all those days happening at work. I've used up that place ad nauseum. Most of my shots are of the things I love: my kids, sunsets, flowers, friends, and my daily boring life. This year was done just to stay current with my camera. Stay connected to it and not lose my skillz ;) lol. Not every day was golden, but every day was something that I participated in.. and that counts for a lot! I think I posted about a third of them.... not bad for being a busy person with little kids ;)
If this made your head spin (as it did mine), then you can watch it a bit slower here ;)
thanks for sharing 2012 with me and letting me share mine with you :)
Had to convert to b&w; the pool table has seen better days and the felt is faded. The balls are quite timeworn and yellowed, so none of my post-processing tricks would make them look better. Lighting is natural window light. Added the angle for interestingness (flickr says that's a word :-p )
Oiii
Tudo bem ?
Bom feriado >3>
3-D Cross-eye stereogram
focus stacked with 6 pics in each shot to increase the DOF.
stare at the pic- slightly defocus and cross your eyes when an image forms in the middle try to relax your eyes to stabilise the 3-D image. If you can visualise this one try the larger size.
The 3D image really does put the pollen anthers in their place.
