I love seeing these tiger lilies like this-they look like a giant barrette to me.

On my way to Oshkosh I encountered a DC-3 in flight, at 5,000ft, just south of Chicago. I knew they had to be on their way to AirVenture, too! There was a large gathering of DC-3s for the airplane's 75th anniversary...

So while at Oshkosh I was on the lookout for a blue and white DC-3... and I did find them! Turns out that there is a neat story behind this airplane: The "Union Jack" had just been brought back to life and restored to flying condition by a team of British experts during the six weeks prior to AirVenture! Read more here and here!

It was great to meet the crew and get a tour of the inside of this great old bird!

Behold yet another marvel of Japanese bathroom engineering--the all-in-one. Place your hands beneath the nozzle on the upper left side, and it dispenses a large dollop of creamy hand soap for you. Place your hands beneath the nozzle to the right, and you get a stream of perfectly warm water to rinse off your hands. Then, for the finishing touch, move your hands to the bottom of the sink for a vigorous blow-dry. I wish they had this in the US!

FUTURE FORUMS

Focused discussions to explore opportunities for innovation and growth in four key sectors (choose 1 of 4):

THE FUTURE OF CITIES

More than half the global population lives in urban areas. And the number of megacities–those with populations greater than 10 million–has risen from 3 in 1975 to around 30 today. These population hubs have become hotspots for smog-causing greenhouse gas emissions. And they’re straining natural resources and imperiling human health. Cities aren’t going to stop growing. A look at how to make them livable.

ST SAPPI-3 bears down on the Kennebec Street crossing in Shawmut as they work their way railroad west down the Hinckley branch. Leading the way towards Waterville was MEC 350, an EMD GP40 equipped with a beastly Leslie RS5T. Of all the shots I was able to get on this chase, I think this one is my favorite.
