Kawasaki H1 Mach III, 500cc, 2 stroke triple. About 60 hp from a bike that weighed around 180Kg.

I've never ridden one which probably explains why I'm still here. It had the dubious reputation for being known as the "Widow Maker". A bike only suitable for the experienced because it had a fearsome power band over 5000 rpm. Once the original tyres were junked, I believe the handling improved considerably. An absolute wheelie machine with a range that could get you to the next town (just) the fuel economy was about 30mpg!

Impractical but exciting.

DKW became very famous for their motorbikes in the 1920s. Founder engineer Jørgen Rasmussen (1878-1964) started in 1926 with the production of electro-delivery vehicles. In 1928 he followed with motorcars.

In 1932 DKW merged with Audi, Horch and Wander into Auto Union.

This saloon has a wooden frame body covered with imitation leather on a central tubular chassis.

New for the F8 was a bonnet with a double row of ventilation slots, and small triangle-shape ventilation windows for the front doors. The wind-screen wipers moved to the upper side.

This red-black colour combination was often used by DKW in the 1930s.

The Minor was developed and designed by Jawa.

The Czech company was founded in 1929 by František Janeček (1878-1941) who bought the German Wanderer Motor Cycles division (Jawa stands for JAneček-WAnderer).

Characteristic of the Minor was its aerodynamic body with again the fully integrated headlights. Czech car makers had quite a good reputation for advanced technics and design.

The new Wartburg 353 saloon was presented in Autumn 1965. It had a very modern and attractive bodywork for mid 1960s. But engine and technics were already out-dated at the presentation.

The 353 was designed by Hans Fleischer in cooperation with Clauss Dietel and Lutz Rudolph.

In October 1982 a handy pick-up version was added: the 353 Trans. Only ca. 2900 items were made which makes it a very rare car today.

1989 was the very last model year Wartburg offered 3 cylinder 2-stroke engined cars.

In 1990 the 1.3L 4-stroke 353 Trans was launched. Production ceased already in the next year.

This 353 Trans was original and unrestored.

Well restored KR 200, seen on a contemporary postcard.

During 1952 the German engineer Fritz Fend (1920-2000) had developed his Kabinenroller into a small tandem 2-seater: the 1953-54 KR 175, which was succeeded by this KR 200.

This microcar was built by the Regensburger Messerschmitt-Werk. When this company came into financial trouble in 1956, Fritz Fend took over the direction while the company was renamed Fahrzeug- und Maschinenbau GmbH. Regensburg (FMR).

Well restored odd microcar. It was like brand-new.

It is ultra rare in the streets. Most of these cars are in private or museum collections.

The Biscúter was a licensed built mini-car, designed by the French car engineer Gabriel Voisin (1880-1973) in the late 1940s. He called it a Biscooter, and was presented at the 1949 Paris Car Salon.

As he didn't manage to sell his design to French companies he got contact with two entrepreneurs from Barcelona who bought the license to manufacture this small car.

The new firm was called Autonacional and started to built the renamed Biscúter in 1953.

It had a lightweight aluminium body. The later Biscúter 200 had a steel one.

Although it was found ugly it did sell quite well in Spain. It was nick-named 'Zapatilla' which means little shoe (clog or slipper).

One of the more interesting cars at the first pre-1980 Haynes International Motor Museum Breakfast Club for 14 months. This was a magnificent event. A whole new resurfaced car park area has been created, which will bring to the end the sometimes undignified sight of cars (particularly powerful rear wheel drive cars) getting stuck in muddy grass!

50 cc (3 cu in) Single cylinder 2 stroke

Displayed under the banner of Suzuki community vehicle, the CV1 was a single-seat, four-wheeler, with a narrower track at the rear. It had a single door in its fiberglass body and had a claimed maximum speed of 20 mph (32 km/h). The vehicle could be driven on a moped licence in Japan and was sold in very limited numbers on a trial basis at a price of 300,000 Yen. The car had windows on either side that could be slid upwards and early versions had a single headlamp. Production ended in 1985 when Japanese licensing laws were changed.

This image of a 1934-1938 Standard H504 Schnell-Lastwagen (light truck) was used in an online advertisement for such a Standard commercial vehicle. The H504 was based on the Standard Superior passenger car developed by Josef Ganz (Budapest, 1898-1967) in late 1932.

After Wilhelm Gutbrod (near Stuttgart, 1890-1948) resigned at the Carl Kaelble firm he started as an independent entrepreneur.

The brandname Standard was introduced in 1933 with the streamlined Superior 400 passenger microcar. Simultaneously a range of small commercial vehicles was presented based on the Superior 400 like the 1934 Standard Merkur.

After the production of the Superior 500 passenger car was discontinued in 1935 the brand name Standard disappeared in 1938. From then Wilhelm Gutbrod offered his commercial vehicles under his own name.

The B1000 was quite modern at the time of its presentation in 1961. Only the 2-stroke power source was already a bit outdated.

During her almost 30-year lifetime the B1000 remained unchanged. Only in Autumn 1989 the old Wartburg 2-stroke engine was replaced by a 4-stroke 1.3L engine.

This new engine didn't brought a solution for the big amounts of unsold vans in 1990. In this last year the curtain fell for good for IFA Barkas.

Before the P603 project started AWZ decided in the mid 1960s that the 1964 P601 had to last a long period. With that view on the future they started to develop different versions from existing P601 models.

One of it was this P602 V, a hatchback variant on the P601-range. This is the only P602 V item ever made.

It never came into production.
