i decided it'd be nice to say goodbye to 2010 by spending the last hour or so of daylight in one of my favorite places, Sabino Canyon. i didn't spend as much time there as i should have this year and if i'm making anything like a resolution tonight, it's that i'll spend more time there (and in the outdoors in general) in the coming year.
i mentioned, on an earlier photo, that we had a blizzard sweep through 2 nights ago. it didn't sweep itself across the valley floor, but those mountains behind me got pretty hairy (two news crews got stuck up there, and one of them lost control of the news van and it spun itself deep into the snow). arctic air rushed in to fill the void behind the storm, and in the hour and a half i spent on the lower Bajada Nature Trail Loop this evening just off the parking lot, my car temp gauge noted the temp went from 42 to 36 degrees F. i might sound like a ninny, but that's super-cold for us for daytime temps. the ubiquitous "they" say that we'll see lows in the 20s tonight, also extraordinarily cold 'round these parts.
i've never been much of a new year's eve party girl, and find myself happily putzing around my warm apartment tonight, going through piles of artsy and not-so-artsy things. a hot bath, a read-through of 2011's horoscope (an annual tradition, with Comma Girl and me trading notes over coffee on sunday) and perhaps a midnight toast await. Speckle-Doodle-Doo's waiting for some scooby-snacks and a doggie-massage, too.
