its funny. I used to think a beautiful photograph could only be possible with studio lighting, the best of the best of cameras, and a very small focal length. I used to think only photographs with amazing scenery and great focus with bokehs were the good photos. My whole perception of photography has changed in this past year. Ive learned that total focus is good, not everything needs to be macro, natural lighting is stunning in photos, and you can process out the things you don't like in a photo. Most of all, I learned that sometimes the simplest of subjects make for the best photos.

She sleeps so soundly now. I imagine her dreams thronged with those she will not see again. Her mother is there, and her son. Her puppy self, with her brothers. And surely she is running, always running.
Studio 26, assignment on What is Time?
(Photo of Sardou, by Jen at Mountain Tails)
An assignment so resonant for me! And I had a couple of other ideas I didn't have a chance for. And then I had such a time fixing on a final image. I love the whole haphazard by chance, seize the moment aspect of the Morris family on their mother's porch. But this one touches my heart.
Studio 26 -- Assignment on Imitation & Flattery.
Though I actually have an artistic preference for the closer crop of this image, this choice is all about celebrating my party girl, so of course must include the entirety of her happy expression. And "party girl" was one of my nicknames for her, even when she was a puppy. And what better way to celebrate this milestone birthday than with meringues? Special sugarless, apple, beet & almond flavored!
(And thinking of her two fine brothers, Borgie & Ticket, who remain always close in memory.)
The various & wonderful inspiration shots linked below.
And a link to a gallery, as I thought would be fun to gather subsequent shots & various variants together in one place -- I hope it's complete:

Studio 26 -- assignment on photography at noon
Taken on the Corona Arch Trail, at 12:50
It felt a little like cheating, to be in Moab for the start of this assignment, since the colors & drama of the landscape stand up so well to midday bright sun. My strategy was simply to underexpose a stop or two -- as is my wont, anyway -- & most of my shots required minimal processing, or sometimes none at all. (Much more processing needed for early morning shots, to lift the intense shadows.)
I chose this shot as my final image because I think the luminosity of red actually depends on intense overhead light.
(Crop suggested by Stefanie & further tweaked according to Ann's & Nancy's suggestions)

Thank you to Liz for this fun assignment, which caught us up on this cultural phenomenon.

Similar to a couple of others in this location, just felt like putting it in - lots of dust/sand & closer. The hills and mountains in the background is an off road playground & sandbox.

Studio 26 assignment, It's a Wild World. Assignment was to photograph wildlife and a form of wildlife that you don't normally shoot (which means birds were off limits for me - it's about stretching yourself.) I can't say I shot a lot for this assignment and nothing else I shot was in acceptable focus, so this ground squirrel at Boyce Thompson Arboretum iis my submission. Cute guy

Just a quicky today, just wanted to say Happy Easter/Happy Chocolate day. Hope you have a nice long weekend and that things are going well. Trying to cram in the last of my school work. I'm so close to being done! Like two or three weeks left? I'm pretty much just focusing on school work till the very end. Until then I don't think I'm going to be going as hard with this project. We'll see what comes.
