Is it snow or is it dirt? How 'bout a combination of the two? Snirt!? Well, I think it's certainly a funny word. I didn't make it up. :)
I know this isn't a "pretty" shot by any means, I was aiming for a different perspective by angling my camera up towards the hill. I took this one with my iPhone while out walking the dog this morning. The kids had a "snow day" on what would have been their first day of exams. Not sure why they called it, they've been bused to school in far worse weather.

GOBBO RUGGINOSO - white-headed duck (Oxyura leucocephala)
Il gobbo rugginoso (Oxyura leucocephala) è una piccola anatra tuffatrice dall'aspetto "gobbo" che le dà il nome italiano. Questo raro anatide è una specie a rischio estinzione: In Europa è sopravvissuta in Spagna, mentre in Italia è estinta dal 1979.
Qui un bel esemplare femmina ripreso al Centro Cicogne e Anatidi di Racconigi in Piemonte dove è attivo un progetto di reintroduzione in collaborazione con la LIPU.

The white-headed duck (Oxyura leucocephala) is a small stiff-tailed duck with a "hunchback" appearance that gives it its Italian name. This rare duck is a species at risk of extinction: In Europe it has survived in Spain, while in Italy it has been extinct since 1979.
Here is a beautiful female specimen taken at the Cicogne e Anatidi Center in Racconigi in Piedmont where a reintroduction project is active in collaboration with LIPU.

IC #1000 leads L536 past Kensington Tower after a round of thunderstorms.
25 years ago today (10/7), IC #1000 made its debut appearance at the Woodcrest Shops in Homewood, Illinois. It was the first of 40 brand-new EMD SD70s delivered to the Illinois Central in 1995 and 1999 and the railroad's first brand-new motive power since the ICG picked up four SD40-2s in 1975.
