247/365 4th Sept “Part of the Whole” ! By Isla Chaney, this has appeared on the Town offices lawn, I think its part of a local Open Art week.

So, you know when you open your compost bin, and the top layer of sludge undulates? Well........that's our model for the day!!!! I believe he/she is the larva of the soldier fly. Whatever it is, it looks prehistoric, and does not smell very good. I used two strip boxes for the shoot, one at nine o'clock, and the other at about 10.30 o'clock. I then used a bounce board at three o'clock to.....bounce some of the light back on to our subject. I clutted about ten of our model's friends or family members, but he/she clearly shined and just craved the spotlight. So, I got down to eye (perhaps anus) level, and started shooting. I used my 100 macro lens so I could get in close, and for some dramatic shallow depth of field. He/she was clearly a pro, and the shoot was over before we knew it. You never know how something so ugly at a distance can appear..........so ugly up close. Thanks, larva!!! And thank YOU for dropping by!!
