El Citroën DS 21, forma parte de la icónica gama DS conocida popularmente como "Tiburón", es célebre por su diseño futurista y sus innovaciones tecnológicas, como la suspensión hidroneumática y los frenos de disco.
Especificaciones y Características Principales
Introducido como una versión tope de gama, el DS 21 mejoró las prestaciones y el equipamiento de los modelos anteriores.
Motor: Presentaba un motor de casi 2,2 litros (2175 cm³) que desarrollaba 100 CV DIN en sus primeras versiones, y más tarde 106 CV DIN con la introducción del motor del D Super 5.
Rendimiento: Alcanzaba velocidades máximas de aproximadamente 180 km/h y aceleraba de 0 a 100 km/h en unos 14,6 segundos, cifras notables para su época.
Innovaciones Tecnológicas:
Suspensión Hidroneumática: Un sistema revolucionario que ofrecía una calidad de conducción, manejo y confort excepcionales, permitiendo regular la altura del chasis.
Frenos de Disco Servoasistidos: Fue uno de los primeros coches de producción en serie en incorporar frenos de disco en las ruedas delanteras.
Faros Direccionales: A partir de 1967 (Serie 3), los faros interiores de las luces largas giraban hasta 90 grados mediante un sistema de cables conectado a la dirección, mejorando la visibilidad en curvas.
Otras: Incluía un testigo de desgaste de las pastillas de freno y un indicador de distancias de frenado.
Diseño y Legado
El diseño del Citroën DS, obra de Flaminio Bertoni, fue un salto cualitativo en la estética automovilística, lo que le valió el apodo de "tiburón". Su aerodinámica y líneas futuristas siguen siendo icónicas.
Su legado va más allá de la innovación, siendo un coche con una rica historia:
Fue utilizado en rallies, ganando el Rally de Montecarlo en 1966.
Personalidades como el poeta Pablo Neruda poseyeron un DS 21, regalo del gobierno francés tras ganar el Premio Nobel de Literatura.
Es ampliamente considerado por los expertos como uno de los automóviles más revolucionarios de la historia.
En 1973, el DS 21 fue sustituido por el DS 23, que ofrecía un motor aún más potente.

This is a 5 shot panorama auto-stitched in Lightroom. There is quite a bit of warpage in the image due to how I was standing. Next time, I'll need to stand farther back and zoom in more. That might keep the result flatter.

Gold Butte National Monument
After a heavy night last night I had a bit of a headache (!) so went to visit the cows to clear away the cobwebs.
Taking every opportunity I can to shoot P42 leaders now that the ALC-42s are very much a dominant force throughout the system. Amtrak #21 departs from Chicago Union Station with #58 leading, this was my first time shooting a Texas Eagle since my summer in Fort Worth in 2023 (3/8/25).

The prototype flying boat piloted by bounty hunter ace Porco Rosso at the Adriatic Sea in the 1920s.
Miyazaki's Porco Rosso (1992) is my all-time favourite film. This is a new version built this summer. The measurements are not identical in different frames of the film, so there was room for creatice decisions despite trying to stay as close to the original as possible.
