My brand new 'Honey Dijon' hybrid tea-rose. It started to flower early this morning - Monday, 19th October, 2026.
My 'Honey Dijon' rose arrived only eight weeks ago bare-rooted by mail order from Wagners Roses in South Australia. I soaked the roots in the bathtub for 36 hours, and planted the rose the following day. And now look - it looks amazing in the garden, with new green shoots and an array of flower buds. You would not know that two months ago this 'Honey Dijon' was a tangle of roots without any foliage at all.
'Honey Dijon' is a distinctive hybrid tea-rose (sometimes referred to as a 'Grandiflora') known for its unusual golden-tan, honey-mustard, and caramel-coloured palette - but with candy pink highlights.

'Honey Dijon' was bred by James A. Sproul in 2005 and introduced by Weeks Roses (from southern California, USA). Its parents roses are 'Stainless Steel' and 'Singing in the Rain'. It was the National Rose Trials Medal Winner in 2005.

Une vue captée lors du parcours de la randonnée "Tongariro Alpine Crossing" du parc national Tongariro en Nouvelle-Zélande.
Sur le sentier "Tongariro Alpine Crossing", la descente à partir du Red Crater est raide et difficile à cause des scories lâches qui roulent sous les pieds. L’idéal est d’avoir vos bâtons de marche car cette section exige de la prudence. À droite, apparaîtront les Emerald Lakes, qui sont de petites fosses d'explosion, la couleur verte brillante de l'eau est causée par les minéraux lessivés de la roche environnante. Les évents de vapeur au-dessus du lac sont responsables de l'odeur sulfureuse. De là, la piste descend abruptement vers les Emerald Lakes et vous pouvez voir le Blue Lake, au loin, après le cratère central.
La Tongariro Alpine Crossing est un sentier de randonnée du parc de niveau difficile. Longue de 19,4 à 20 km (5-8h), elle nécessite une bonne condition physique, notamment pour la montée raide du "Devil's Staircase" et la descente instable. La principale difficulté réside dans les conditions météo changeantes et le terrain volcanique exposé. La montagne peut connaître du vent fort, du brouillard ou de la neige, rendant la marche très difficile, même en été.
Le parc national de Tongariro est le premier parc national créé en Nouvelle-Zélande et le quatrième à voir le jour au niveau mondial. Le parc s'étend sur une superficie d'environ 795,98 km2 et est situé dans le centre de l'île du Nord à quelques kilomètres du lac Taupo. Il inclut notamment les volcans Ruapehu, Ngauruhoe et Tongariro. Depuis 1993, il est classé sur la liste du patrimoine mondial établie par l'UNESCO en paysage culturel et naturel (WHL-421bis). Le parc comporte de nombreux sites sacrés pour les Māori. Plusieurs sommets sont d'ailleurs désignés comme tapu, des lieux extrêmement sacrés aux yeux des Māori.

Irony of Fate is a large-scale multimedia installation in which monumental wreckage and streaming news imagery converge in a stark, contemporary tableau. A decommissioned MiG-21 fighter plane lies crashed into two black American limousines, capturing a moment of collision that evokes geopolitical confrontation and global power dynamics. Monitors embedded within the air-craft and vehicles, along with scattered devices and found objects, extend the scene into the surrounding environment like impact debris. The looped footage from current crisis and war zones introduces a continuous media presence that disturbs the somber stillness of the scene. A provisional structure of sandbags and tank barriers anchors the work in present-day European conflict. Both memorial and warning, the installation reflects on responsibility, perception and the persistent circulation of violence in contemporary media.

The Castro Marim railway station, currently a halt, is actually located in the village of São Bartolomeu do Sul, 5.5 km (3.4 mi) from the town of Castro Marim.
It is located at PK 389+911 on the Algarve line (coordinates 37°11′48.31″N; 7°29′2.15″W).
Today the Algarve line is fully electrified, but at the time of publication of this photo, it is still the 0450 series diesel railcars that provide commercial passenger service.
My photography over the past few weeks has been dominated by visits to the wildflower fields in the Eastern Eifel on various days and in differing weather conditions. This riot of color exerts a magical pull on me time and again.
To achieve continuous sharpness from the nearest flower to infinity, I used the Nikon Z8's automatic focus shift function.
Die letzten Wochen meiner Fotografie waren vorwiegend geprägt vom Besuch der Wildblumen-Felder in der Osteifel an verschiedenen Tagen und bei unterschiedlichen Wetterstimmungen. Diese Farbenpracht zieht mich immer wieder magisch an.
Um eine durchgehende Schärfe von der ersten Blüte bis unendlich zu erzielen nutzte ich die automatische Fokusverlagerung der Nikon Z8.
In a heavy downpour GB Railfreight 'Shed' 66759 gingerly negotiates the curve off the Denton line as it approaches Guide Bridge station with the 10.35am Small Heath Lafarge - Tunstead (4H61) discharged aggregate wagons.
Folk of a certain age will remember Guide Bridge as a busy four platform station in the Manchester area with a very active stabling point hosting class76 electrics, class 40s, class 25s, and shunters working the local freight yard there. For railfans living away from Manchester in the 1970s, and without access to a car, it was also possibly the prime point to access the Woodhead Line and see the 1500v DC class 76s in action.
Closure of the Woodhead route in 1981 massively reduced the significance of Guide Bridge as a freight route and stabling point, and a few years later the line here would be re-electrified at 25Kv allowing EMUs from other parts of the UK network to handle services between Manchester Piccadilly - Glossop/Hadfield. This led to withdrawal of the eight 30yo class 506 EMUs specifically built to service this route.
Station and track rationalisation eventually followed, hastened by a fire in the original ticket office buildings and footbridge, which resulted in both being demolished. The station is now just two platforms but the distinctive Woodhead catenary gantries remain and, despite the heavy vegetation growth, you can still see evidence of where the other two tracks (primarily used for freight traffic) used to be. And thus the title - the class 66 and first couple of wagons are crossing the old trackbed on this now much simplified junction. Rattling the Woodhead ghosts? Maybe!
If you choose to arrive here by car today, you can rattle a few ghosts yourself by parking in the station car park, where some judicious positioning will see you over the trackbed of the old freight lines, or even over the turn-out by which locomotives accessed the stabling point!
The shot, uploaded for historical value, is framed by the girders of the road bridge carrying Guide Lane. Which is definitely more of a road than a lane these days!

Gianluca Occhipinti is a huge talent. He comes to jazz music quite naturally, as his father Michael is respected jazz guitarist and his uncle Roberto is well know bass player. There are more musicians in the family, but I have heard only these three. I have seen Gianluca first time at the Kensington Market Jazz Festival and I was impressed as were many people, who were in the club. He was with bassist Jordan Pelunsky and drummer Marito Marques at intimate club Tapestry. Gianluca will be talk of the town soon. Gianluca has studied with JUNO Award-winning pianist Jeremy Ledbetter for 7 years, but also with Amanda Tosoff , and Hilario Durán, plus performing with internationally recognized artists including Felix Pastorius, Don Byron, Alex Dean, and Larnell Lewis.

London-based singer, songwriter and guitarist, Olive Jones draws on soul, blues and alt-folk to produce her sumptuous music. She was on her first ever US + Canadian tour! She had the Gotts Street Park group *a drummer and bassist with her and crisscrossed the USA, even had a gig in Toronto at the Mod Club.
Montreal jazz Festival brings some (jazz) household names; some not so jazz names. Olive Jones is a new name for me. Olive grew up listening to jazz. First I thought a spelling mistake, as Montrealer Oliver Jones used to play a lot at the festival. He retired few times already. I was at his 'last' concert around 2017. He actually died few weeks after the festival ended.

A little sun visible between the rains. The afterglow of the early July sunset colored the clouds a beautiful red. This doesn't happen here many times during the summer. I was briefly following the World Cup match when I went to photograph this scene. The games have admittedly interfered with my photography hobby a bit, but such quality work is just a sight to behold. Soon I will have more time for my beloved hobby (A7C0960_pano_e1).

CN 2026 South is on the final approach to Two Harbors as it crosses Airport Road on July 7, 2021. The 2026 is heading down the almost 3% grade of the Iron Range Sub. and will yard its 145 Minntac pellet loads in Stephenson Yard down below in a few minutes. The gentler grade of the Two Harbors Sub., used by northbounds, is seen in the foreground. The background has a CN-family ore boat on a really nice and blue Lake Superior. I can't remember which GLF boat this was, so obviously I'm not a great boat fan.
Grammy winner Danilo Perez made many trips to Toronto. Mostly as a part of Wayne Shorter quartet. Last time, I saw them was in April 2017. Shorter died in 2023. His trio played tribute to him and in second half of the concert they played with all star Toronto musicians, premiering Perez's composition "Panafrica suite" honouring his native country Panama, with vocalist April May Webb and young Panama percussionist Lucas Maylin. The big band never played in this formation and had one rehearsal at the day of the concert.

Keyon has the chops, but something rubs me wrong about his stage presence, remines me of his 'New School' classmate Robert Glasper whom I seen last year on the same stage and hated. It may be just me, as many young people around me seemed to enjoy his performance. It was all about ME; from large picture of him on the screen, to somehow disconnected solos.
Harrold performed at The White House in 2016. During this period, Harrold became a notable crossover performer, becoming a staple of New York jazz clubs as well as providing instrumentation for recordings by JAY-Z, Beyoncé, 50 Cent, Gregory Porter, Mary J. Blige. Harrold has also toured with Cirque du Soleil's Michael Jackson: The Immortal World Tour, Rihanna, Eminem, Gregory Porter, D’Angelo, Maxwell and Mary J. Blige. Harrold supplied all of the trumpet playing in Don Cheadle’s Miles Davis biopic Miles Ahead, playing to match Cheadle’s on-screen performance.

In de zomer van 2026 konden we wederom van het fraaie vakantieland Tsjechië genieten. Onze dochter heeft een voorkeur voor dit land en dan komt het helemaal niet slecht uit dat de vader een groot liefhebber van Tsjechische treinen is. Zwemmen bij het zomerhuisje en uitjes werden afgewisseld met korte en wat langere treinentripjes in de buurt. Deze keer zaten we iets ten oosten Praag en kon er worden gespot aan de hoofdlijnen Praag-Kolin, Praag-Tábor en de verderop gelegen hoofdlijn Nymburk-Lysá nad Labem. Er waren ook fraaie diesellijntjes in de buurt. Het weer was goed voor uitstapjes en met behulp van de radar kon er gericht op de zonnige momenten aan de baan worden gespot. Zowel aan de hoofdlijn als aan een aantal diesellijnen werd goed geoogst.
Op woensdag 29 juli werd voor het eerst een compleet onbewolkte dag voorspeld. Daarom werd gekozen om het verder weg te gaan voor de treinen. Het gebied ten zuiden van Ústí nad Labem werd met een bezoek vereerd. Zowel links als rechts van de Elbe werd gespot. Totaal werden 20 goederentreinen gefotografeerd waaronder een groot aantal zeer fraaie. Er werden stekken bij Ústí nad Labem Střekov, Libochovany, Církvice en Vaňov bezocht. Het was een hete dag en daarom werd ook een aantal (“standaard”) stekken gekozen waar lekker in de schaduw op de treinen kon worden gewacht.
Een mooi en bekend fotopunt is de stek bij Ústí nad Labem Střekov. Hier stond ik deze dag met een groep Duitsers. Het punt is gelegen aan de hoofdspoorlijn Nymburk-Ústí nad Labem. Het kan hier ’s ochtends behoorlijk druk zijn qua goederentreinen. Deze ochtend reden er in 1,5 uur drie goederentreinen. De eerste was gelijk het hoogtepunt met twee gave IDS-klassiekers van de serie 121 voorop. Na deze trein werden twee goederentreinen voor de statistieken geclickt. De stoptreindienst wordt nog gereden met getrokken treinen met als tractie een 162 of 362.
Hier zien we de Čd 362 017-6 met Os 6409 Ústí nad Labem západ-Lysá nad Labem bij Ústí nad Labem Střekov op 29-7-2026.
Van woensdag 17 juni t/m zaterdag 20 juni 2026 stond in de agenda’s van mijn treinenspotmaat en ik een treinenspottripje naar Tsjechië. Het is dan iedere keer weer afwachten wat het weer en de omlopen doen. Het leek qua weer vooraf wat twijfelachtig. De omlopen zijn soms nog minder voorspelbaar dan het weer. Er werd toch gekozen om te gaan en dat is een zeer goede keuze geweest. De foto’s kwamen met het nodige geluk, uiteraard goede keuzes 😉 en sterke verhalen tot stond. Iedere dag bleek maar weer dat alle voorbereidingen door het weer en de omlopen voor een deel richting de prullenbak konden. Improviseren aan de hand van de wolkenradar en een blik in de omlopen was de enige zekerheid.
Zaterdag 20 juni zou het ’s ochtends zonnig zijn in het oosten tot halverwege de middag. Toen we wakker werden en vanuit ons hotel naar buiten keken, leek het ten oosten van Praag toch best wel bewolkt. Een blik op de radar deed ons besluiten om nog een uurtje te gaan slapen en daarna naar de westkant van Praag te gaan. Daar konden we in de buurt van Jeneč twee verschillende Broodtrommels fotograferen en daarna werd bij Nučice een gave Duikbril tijdens een bijzondere rit gespot.
We zagen ondertussen dat de in alleen in de weekenden rijdende KŽC-trein met Bardotka richting Rakovník 15 minuten vertraging had. Zodoende konden we bij één van de weinige geschikte stekken vastleggen. De fraaie diesellijn Beroun-Rakovnik kronkelt door een prachtig landschap, maar heeft de KŽC-trein qua stekken weinig te bieden. Bij het station van Zbečno rijdt de trein wel mooi in het zonnetje. We bleven tijdens de autorit naar deze stek aardig op schema rijden. Dat gold helaas niet voor de trein. De oude Bardotka tufte aardig door en de vertraging nam met flinke sprongen af.
We werden daarom al een beetje zenuwachtig. Onze reistijd nam niet echt af. Tijdwinst boeken is in dit gebied met de vele bochtige weggetjes en haarspeldbochten een utopie. Op een gegeven moment keek op de site van Tsjechische Spoorwegen en bleek dat de trein met nog maar 4 minuten vertraging reed. Op hetzelfde moment draaide de lokale bus net voor onze neus de weg op. Deze reed met een kalm gangetje door alle bochten en moest ook zo’n beetje bij elke halte stoppen. Dat leverde van onze kant nog wat vertraging op, terwijl de oude Bardotka gewoon lekker doorreed en nog een minuutje winst boekte. Eenmaal bij het station aangekomen moesten we een sprintje trekken in de hitte (inmiddels alweer boven de 30 graden) en zagen we onze geliefde loc al pruttelend met een flink gangetje de bocht omkomen. Het ging allemaal nog net goed.

The 2x Grammy winner is no stranger in Toronto and has many fans here. They filled most seats in the Koerner Hall. He performed in White House, but based on his comments, I doubt he would perform for the current resident (I can not call him president).
Kurt Elling was headlining with guitar virtuoso Charlie Hunter and impressive drummer Marcus Finnie plus Kenny Banks Jr. another top-shelf musician on keyboard. Elling was mostly funk, some blues numbers, but finished with a ballad 'Desperado', as encore.

Iets ten noorden van ons vakantieverblijf waren de fraaie zandsteenkliffen, het mooie eiland Rømø en het fraaie stadje Ribe te vinden en ten zuiden de Marschbahn. Allemaal met grote aantrekkingskracht, maar de Marschbahn heeft voor een treinenliefhebber toch net iets meer te bieden.
Vooral omdat op deze fraaie lijn nu nog met een beetje geluk diesellocs van de serie 218 zijn te vinden. Tenminste, t/m 30 april in de IC-dienst en met wat geluk één omloop in de autotreindienst tussen Niebüll en Westerland (Sylt). Achteraf bleek er bijna de hele week één setje 218’s in de autotreindienst te rijden, al werden de locs soms gedurende de dag vervangen door de moderne 245’s. Het doek lijkt ook snel te vallen voor de oude diesels. De Marschbahn is nu nog extra interessant door de aanwezigheid van de mooie armseinen. Die gaan de komende tijd ook verdwijnen. De kabels voor de nieuwe lichtseinen liggen al in een goot en de plekken waar de lichtseinen komen zijn al goed te zien.
Op dinsdagochtend 28-4-2026 werd na een bezoekje aan een fraaie stek bij Klanxbüll richting Niebüll gereden. Bij Süderende werd een nieuwe stek uitgeprobeerd. Op deze stek zijn de vorderingen voor de modernisering van het seinstelsel ook al goed te zien. Er werden een aantal autotreinen afgewacht en de ICE-L. Gelukkig zat er vandaag ook weer een koppeltje 218’s in de autotreindienst.
Hier zien we de DB 218 834-0 en 218 831-6 en met autotrein AS 1429 Westerland (Sylt)-Niebüll bij Süderende op 28-4-2026.

Daarom was ik ook wel blij dat ik één van de laatste IC’s nog kon vastleggen en ook nog met de fraaie 218 497. Al blijft het een kwestie van smaak deze bijzondere variant. Persoonlijk vind ik deze wel geslaagd.
