On multiple occasions I have been next to this octopus when it swims off the reef and follows near your side. It diplays a threating posture, as in the photograph. The tiny golf ball sized octopus tries to intimidate and warn you off with intense color changes and strange arm positioning-

Saint Joseph London

In July of 1946 the Sisters of Charity of Nazareth, Kentucky purchased what was then called Pennington General Hospital in London, Kentucky and assumed its leadership. Renamed Marymount – Our Lady of the Mountain, the mission of the sisters was to extend the healing ministry of Christ bringing quality health care to the poor and underserved of rural Kentucky. In 1997 Marymount along with seven other Kentucky facilities, became part of Catholic Health Initiatives (CHI) and in 2008 those same eight facilities formed Saint Joseph Health System. At that time the hospital name was changed to Saint Joseph – London. In January 2012 Saint Joseph London became part of KentuckyOne Health, the largest health system in Kentucky with more than 200 locations including hospitals, outpatient facilities and physician offices, and more than 3,000 licensed beds. An 18-member volunteer board of directors governs KentuckyOne Health, its facilities and operations, including Saint Joseph London with this mission:

Ho preferito mangiare io». Come dargli torto.

Warning! Story May Scare You!

Scholars around the world are astonished at Professor VaeV's inventive Aristo's Vow Blood Tubes for which spews out blinking hearts with skin conductivity pairing Bunny Dolls sectional arms, legs and torsos.

His well known Val-Lab (Established in the Mid-17th Century somewhere in the most Northern thistled parts of Eastern Europe) has been popularized by his detailed research where his fanged companions have assisted him in creating legendary feminine Sasa Cupids; best known as sensual half Cupid & half sexy ladies of the night.

Now don't let their sex appeal fool you dearest males of todays dates; stop drooling and snap out of it. Pay close attention. One quick whip of their horned tail and prick from their pumping Tell-Tale Abyssal Heart will cast a forever spell on you. I've known men who have become meek mice of the Bram Stoker's deadly fields. We've sadly heard their cries and awful squeaks when stepped on.

This is no myth, mind you. Their charm floats in the mist of your bedroom walls, under your car seats and golden elevators around the world. It's the bloody truth.

You are most venerable in the after days of Valentines while they have carried darkened roses into lover's trash bins once they dwindle and all the feeding and fun has settled for each February's event.

If you listen closely to the music echoing from their enchanted Lyre's, you are doomed. Beware my friends. We want to see you alive and well next year.

This one was probably the most difficult to process, as the contrast between the sea of older sodium lights out towards the east is an assault on the eyes against the ultra-cool temps of inner London lighting. Tower Bridge is practically neon. So, I've tried to make this as true to life as I remember it, which was a spectacular view with a juxtaposition of eras and architecture.

Happy New Year!!!!! Well the fireworks are over for another year. I always think that they go for too long and after a while there is so much smoke that it is difficult to see the effects of the fireworks properly. They should shorten the time, (it was over 10 minutes this year), or do the Harbour Bridge first so we could see the spectacular effects before it is clouded by smoke. I could only watch on TV tonight, but this is a collage from photos that I took on New Year's Eve 2011/2012.

The Miami-Biltmore Hotel & Country Club was designated a National Historic Landmark in the year 1996. It is a spanish colonial revival high-rise building with 15 floor and towering at 314.96 ft in height.

On April 18, 2012, the AIA's Florida Chapter placed the building on its list of Florida Architecture: 100 Years. 100 Places as the Biltmore Hotel.

The Biltmore was one of the most fashionable resorts in the United States in its heyday, hosting royalty of both the European and Hollywood variety. The Duke and Duchess of Windsor, Ginger Rogers, Judy Garland and Bing Crosby were frequent guests here. In fact, everyone who was anyone - from politicians like President Franklin D. Roosevelt to notorious gangsters like Al Capone – stayed at The Biltmore, where they enjoyed fashion shows, gala balls, aquatic shows in the 23,000 square foot grand pool, elaborate weddings and world-class golf tournaments.

When the Jazz Age was at full cry, the Biltmore’s big bands entertained wealthy, well-traveled visitors at this American Riviera resort. Challenged by America’s economic lulls in the late 1920's and early 1930's, The Biltmore thrived by hosting aquatic galas that drew crowds and kept the hotel in the spotlight.

Happy Dragonflly Thursday! These skimmers are rare down South and usually spotted in the fall. I had them in the spring and fall - and even in mid-summer. But they appear and disappear mysteriously. They've been seen gathering for migration on the east coast but it is not known whether ours arrive via migration. I did finally have females last year and saw matings occur.

So we'll see what happens this season. btw it's going to 75o here today in the Big A.

Amsterdam is the capital and most populous city of the Netherlands. Its status as the Dutch capital is mandated by the Constitution of the Netherlands, although Amsterdam is not the seat of the Dutch government which is The Hague. Amsterdam has a population of 802,938 within city limits, 1,560,414 in the urban region and 2,332,839 in the greater metropolitan area. The city is located in the province of North Holland in the west of the country. It comprises much of the northern part of the Randstad, one of the larger conurbations in Europe, with a population of approximately 7 million.

Amsterdam's name derives from Amstelredamme, indicative of the city's origin: a dam in the river Amstel. Originating as a small fishing village in the late 12th century, Amsterdam became one of the most important ports in the world during the Dutch Golden Age, a result of its innovative developments in trade. During that time, the city was the leading center for finance and diamonds. In the 19th and 20th centuries, the city expanded, and many new neighborhoods and suburbs were planned and built. The 17th-century canals of Amsterdam and the 19–20th century Defence Line of Amsterdam are on the UNESCO World Heritage List.

As the commercial capital of the Netherlands and one of the top financial centres in Europe, Amsterdam is considered an alpha world city by the Globalization and World Cities (GaWC) study group. The city is also the cultural capital of the Netherlands.] Many large Dutch institutions have their headquarters there, and 7 of the world's top 500 companies, including Philips and ING, are based in the city. In 2012, Amsterdam was ranked 2nd best city to live by the Economist Intelligence Unit (EIU) and 12th globally on quality of living by Mercer. The city was previously ranked 3rd in innovation by 2thinknow in the Innovation Cities Index 2009.

The Amsterdam Stock Exchange, the oldest stock exchange in the world, is located in the city center. Amsterdam's main attractions, including its historic canals, the Rijksmuseum, the Van Gogh Museum, Stedelijk Museum, Hermitage Amsterdam, Anne Frank House, Amsterdam Museum, its red-light district, and its many cannabis coffee shops draw more than 3.66 million international visitors annually.

The earliest recorded use of the name "Amsterdam" is from a certificate dated 27 October 1275, when the inhabitants, who had built a bridge with a dam across the Amstel, were exempted from paying a bridge toll by Count Floris V. The certificate describes the inhabitants as homines manentes apud Amestelledamme (people living near Amestelledamme). By 1327, the name had developed into Aemsterdam

Amsterdam's founding is relatively recent compared with much older Dutch cities such as Nijmegen, Rotterdam, and Utrecht. In October 2008, historical geographer Chris de Bont suggested that the land around Amsterdam was being reclaimed as early as the late 10th century. This does not necessarily mean that there was already a settlement then since reclamation of land may not have been for farming—it may have been for peat, used as fuel.

Amsterdam was granted city rights in either 1300 or 1306. From the 14th century on, Amsterdam flourished, largely because of trade with the Hanseatic League. In 1345, an alleged Eucharistic miracle in the Kalverstraat rendered the city an important place of pilgrimage until the adoption of the Protestant faith. The Stille Omgang—a silent procession in civil attire—is today a remnant of the rich pilgrimage history

In the 16th century, the Dutch rebelled against Philip II of Spain and his successors. The main reasons for the uprising were the imposition of new taxes, the tenth penny, and the religious persecution of Protestants by the Spanish Inquisition. The revolt escalated into the Eighty Years' War, which ultimately led to Dutch independence. Strongly pushed by Dutch Revolt leader William the Silent, the Dutch Republic became known for its relative religious tolerance. Jews from the Iberian Peninsula, Huguenots from France, prosperous merchants and printers from Flanders, and economic and religious refugees from the Spanish-controlled parts of the Low Countries found safety in Amsterdam. The influx of Flemish printers and the city's intellectual tolerance made Amsterdam a centre for the European free press

The 17th century is considered Amsterdam's Golden Age, during which it became the wealthiest city in the world. Ships sailed from Amsterdam to the Baltic Sea, North America, and Africa, as well as present-day Indonesia, India, Sri Lanka, and Brazil, forming the basis of a worldwide trading network. Amsterdam's merchants had the largest share in both the Dutch East India Company and the Dutch West India Company. These companies acquired overseas possessions that later became Dutch colonies. Amsterdam was Europe's most important point for the shipment of goods and was the leading Financial Centre of the world. In 1602, the Amsterdam office of the Dutch East India Company became the world's first stock exchange by trading in its own shares.

Amsterdam lost over 10% of its population to plague in 1623–1625, and again in 1635–1636, 1655, and 1664. Nevertheless, the population of Amsterdam rose in the 17th century (largely through immigration) from 50,000 to 200,000

Amsterdam's prosperity declined during the 18th and early 19th centuries. The wars of the Dutch Republic with England and France took their toll on Amsterdam. During the Napoleonic Wars, Amsterdam's significance reached its lowest point, with Holland being absorbed into the French Empire. However, the later establishment of the United Kingdom of the Netherlands in 1815 marked a turning point.

The end of the 19th century is sometimes called Amsterdam's second Golden Age. New museums, a train station, and the Concertgebouw were built; in this same time, the Industrial Revolution reached the city. The Amsterdam-Rhine Canal was dug to give Amsterdam a direct connection to the Rhine, and the North Sea Canal was dug to give the port a shorter connection to the North Sea. Both projects dramatically improved commerce with the rest of Europe and the world. In 1906, Joseph Conrad gave a brief description of Amsterdam as seen from the seaside, in The Mirror of the Sea.

Shortly before the First World War, the city began expanding, and new suburbs were built. Even though the Netherlands remained neutral in this war, Amsterdam suffered a food shortage, and heating fuel became scarce. The shortages sparked riots in which several people were killed. These riots are known as the Aardappeloproer (Potato rebellion). People started looting stores and warehouses in order to get supplies, mainly food.

Germany invaded the Netherlands on 10 May 1940 and took control of the country. Some Amsterdam citizens sheltered Jews, thereby exposing themselves and their families to the high risk of being imprisoned or sent to concentration camps. More than 100,000 Dutch Jews were deported to Nazi concentration camps of which some 60.000 lived in Amsterdam. Perhaps the most famous deportee was the young Jewish girl Anne Frank, who died in the Bergen-Belsen concentration camp. At the end of the Second World War, communication with the rest of the country broke down, and food and fuel became scarce. Many citizens traveled to the countryside to forage. Dogs, cats, raw sugar beets, and Tulip bulbs—cooked to a pulp—were consumed to stay alive. Most of the trees in Amsterdam were cut down for fuel, and all the wood was taken from the apartments of deported Jews.

The (reconstructed) bookcase that covered the entrance to the "Secret Annex" where Anne Frank hid from Germans occupying Amsterdam during World War II.

Many new suburbs, such as Osdorp, Slotervaart, Slotermeer, and Geuzenveld, were built in the years after the Second World War These suburbs contained many public parks and wide, open spaces, and the new buildings provided improved housing conditions with larger and brighter rooms, gardens, and balconies. Because of the war and other incidents of the 20th century, almost the entire city centre had fallen into disrepair. As society was changing, politicians and other influential figures made plans to redesign large parts of it. There was an increasing demand for office buildings and new roads as the automobile became available to most common people. A metro started operating in 1977 between the new suburb of Bijlmer and the centre of Amsterdam. Further plans were to build a new highway above the metro to connect the Central Station and city centre with other parts of the city.

The incorporated large-scale demolitions began in Amsterdam's formerly Jewish neighbourhood. Smaller streets, such as the Jodenbreestraat, were widened and saw almost all of their houses demolished. During the destruction's peak, the Nieuwmarktrellen (Nieuwmarkt riots) broke out, where people expressed their fury about the demolition caused by the restructuring of the city.

As a result, the demolition was stopped, and the highway was never built, with only the metro being finished. Only a few streets remained widened. The new city hall was built on the almost completely demolished Waterlooplein. Meanwhile, large private organisations, such as Stadsherstel Amsterdam, were founded with the aim of restoring the entire city centre. Although the success of this struggle is visible today, efforts for further restoration are still ongoing The entire city centre has reattained its former splendor and, as a whole, is now a protected area. Many of its buildings have become monuments, and in July 2010 the Grachtengordel (Herengracht, Keizersgracht, and Prinsengracht) was added to the UNESCO World Heritage List

A Poole studio image of this hirsute young man with a distinctive name to match his appearance. He features in the Irish Political Figures collection but I, for one, have never heard of him before. Therefore, could he be described as a known unknown?

While previously unknown to all of us Marys, we were delighted to be schooled on the life and times of Herbert Moore Pim. While summarised in the verso of this image (itself "shopped" from a Poole original) an aptly titled article on the Curious Career of Herbert Moore Pim covers the main points. At once Quaker and Catholic, Unionist and separatist, fascist and bohemian, he comes across as one who perhaps was a little less certain of his own mind than most others in the political figures collection. He did seem to maintain his lustrous beard throughout however :)

Flying home from Georgia, we missed our connecting flight and stayed overnight at an O'Hare Airport hotel. Our flight home wasn't until mid-afternoon. So we hung out until checkout. We had the good fortune to have a room on the 14th floor with floor-to-ceiling windows. My husband was happy as could be watching the planes--jumbo jets down to diminutive commuter jets--take-off and land. I was happy drawing him and the expansive view out the window. Go North East's Percy Main based "Coaster" branded Volvo B5LH/Wright Eclipse Gemini 2 6061 (NK62 CJE) is pictured here in the yard at Saltmeadows Road Depot, Gateshead, following completion of repaint and branding, prior to transfer to Percy Main for driver familiarisation. 15/12/17

The entry into service of new Wright StreetDeck vehicles on "The Angel" service 21 (Durham - Chester-le-Street - Newcastle) will see the Wright Eclipse Gemini 2 bodied Volvo B5LHs cascade to another route.

The Hybrids, partially funded by a grant of £1,119,235 in Round 3 of the Green Bus Fund in 2012, are intended to be repainted blue and branded for the "Coaster" 1/1A services, then transferred to Percy Main, in line with the entry into service of the new Wright StreetDecks.

They will replace the existing Scania OmniCity buses allocated to the service - providing an upgraded seating capacity and also the provision of audio-visual Next Stop Announcements, as well as free Wi-Fi which was already offered on the OmniCitys.

The first two "Coaster" branded Scania OmniCitys have already been repainted into Go North East's corporate livery. Some of the vehicles in the batch are expected to provide a vehicle upgrade for other services.

Smoke Photo Art.

Well, I guess I was right about the last one....perhaps it should have stayed in the vaults. Hopefully people will like this one more. It was named in the classic vein of 70's albums, Too bad those great big vinyl covers with their terrific artwork have disappeared. I would like to think that this would have made a pretty good one.

If you haven't done so, please take a look at the Smoke & Mirrors group, become a member and vote for the Pick of the Year 2012 here:

It is an amazing assemblage of some of the finest smoke art work on the internet, IMHO. : )

Piccadilly Circus is a famous road junction and public space of London's West End in the City of Westminster, built in 1819 to connect Regent Street with the major shopping street of Piccadilly. In this context a circus, from the Latin word meaning a circle, is a circular open space at a street junction.

Piccadilly Circus used to be surrounded by illuminated advertising hoardings on buildings, starting in the early 1900s, but only one building now carries them, the one in the north-western corner between Shaftesbury Avenue and Glasshouse Street. The site is unnamed (usually referred to as Monico after the Café Monico which used to be on the site); its addresses are 44/48 Regent Street, 1/6 Sherwood Street, 17/22 Denman Street and 1/17 Shaftesbury Avenue, and has been owned by property investor Land Securities Group since the 1970s.

The earliest signs used incandescent light bulbs, these were replaced with neon lamps, as well as moving signs (there was a large Guinness clock at one time). From December 1998 digital projectors were briefly used for the Coke sign [1], while the early 2000s have seen a gradual move to LED displays. The number of signs has reduced over the years as the rental costs have increased.

As of 2008, the site has six illuminated advertising screens above three large retail units, facing Piccadilly Circus on the north side, occupied by Boots, and GAP and a mix of smaller retail, restaurant and office premises fronting the other streets. A Burger King located under the Samsung advert which had been previously a Wimpy Bar until the late 1980s had closed in early 2008 and has now been converted into a Barclays Bank.

London (pronounced /ˈlʌndən/) is the capital of both England and the United Kingdom. It has been an influential city for two millennia, and its history goes back to its founding by the Romans, then named Londinium. London's core, the ancient City of London, still retains its limited medieval boundaries. However, since at least the nineteenth century, the name "London" has also referred to the whole metropolis that has developed around it. Today, the bulk of this conurbation forms the London region and the Greater London administrative area,[9] with its own elected mayor and assembly.

London is a prominent global city and one of the world's largest financial centres. Central London is home to the headquarters of more than half of the UK's top 100 listed companies (the FTSE 100) and more than 100 of Europe's 500 largest. London's influence in politics, education, entertainment, media, fashion, the arts and culture in general contributes to its global position. It is a major tourist destination for both domestic and overseas visitors. London hosted the 1908 and 1948 Summer Olympics and will host the 2012 Summer Olympics.

London contains four World Heritage Sites: the Tower of London; the historic settlement of Greenwich; the Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew; and the site comprising the Palace of Westminster, Westminster Abbey and St. Margaret's Church.

London has a wide range of peoples, cultures, and religions, and more than 300 languages are spoken within its boundaries. In July 2007, it had an official population of 7,556,900 within the boundaries of Greater London, making it the most populous municipality in the European Union.[20] The Greater London Urban Area (the second largest in the EU) has a population of 8,278,251. while the metropolitan area (the largest in the EU) has an estimated total population of between 12 million[3] and 14 million. The public transport network, administered by Transport for London, is the most extensive in the world, London Heathrow Airport is the world's busiest airport by number of international passengers and the airspace is the busiest of any urban centre in the world. London was named by New York Magazine as the capital of the world for the 21st century.

When I researched the pattern of seeds which you see in the dried heads, I was delighted to find that the Fibonacci sequence is in action here. Although I hated mathematics at school, knowing that this mathematical sequence is behind the organisation of the seeds, gives me a feeling of being a very small part of the living cosmos, which is awesome!

* NYPD Cop Plot To "Slow Cook" 100 Women "Zombie Cult" Demons!

* Prosecutors: NYPD officer conspired to kidnap, cook, eat women

* Why People Around the World Should be Terrified of Obama ( And Christians Should be Thankful)

A fascinating perspective :-/

Instead of fear and worrying isn't it time to keep looking up with joy because it points to big changes soon to come and as foretold of Jesus coming .Look at world events ,earthquakes in diverse places of greater intensity ( Matthew 24 ) ,millions of animal deaths almost like everyday from one corner of the world to the next ,apocalyptic disasters one after another ... not the least ,the division of the promise land of God is on the big agenda right on our present day and President Obama is unto this in favor of the division of the land ,which I get the shivers of this thought ,but the Biblical text had stated this will happen .

Take note in Genesis 12 :2 - 3 "those who curse Israel will be curse " and Read Zechariah 12 ,God will cut down nations into pieces of those who attack Israel and divide His land . Make no mistake things will get so bad when your nation will be unto division of Israel .We are right in the cusp of the dark days towards the Tribulations .Read you Bible friends but no fear --- Jesus said "let not your hearts be troubled " rather put your trust in Jesus . I do believe everything happened for a purpose ,even the reelection of President Obama in my opinion and of other who are watching closely , is part of the fulfillment of prophetic events that should happen in our timeline ,what was foretold is unfolding . But keep holding on to the hope ,as this means we are close to Jesus coming to bring lasting peace on earth . This earth will never end .It's this evil world as we knew it that will come to its end - then the millenial reign of Jesus on earth ,the Bible said so .To every Christians ,it's time to keep our ways right with God in case we have slipped a little away from our walk with God , ask for true discernment to see things right from the Lord not from man. It's time to prepare ,keep your lamps with oil like 5 of the 10 virgins ( as the door to the bridegroom will shut soon ) , forsake the love of the things of this world , ask Jesus to search your hearts ,and put your lives right and stronger with Him .He is coming soon ,Maranatha !

Trassini con la lurida giacchetta grigia

annota su certi quadernetti neri

e confronta appunta

trafigge inutilmente dati

eh, impettiti e pronti a fare finta

The Thirumayam Fort is a 40-acre wide fortress in the town of Thirumayam in Pudukkottai-Karaikudi Highway in Pudukkottai District, Tamil Nadu, India. It was constructed by Vijaya Raghunatha Sethupathi, the Raja of Ramnad in 1687. Later the fort was handed over to his brother in law Raghunatha Raya Tondaiman. The fort has been extensively renovated by Archaeological Survey of India in 2012

The fortress is of great historical significance and was an important stronghold of rebel chieftains in the Polygar (Palaiyakkarar)Wars. Oomathurai (ஊமைத்துரை)

A community of Augustinian canons built a priory here, known as Anglesea or Anglesey Priory, some time during the reign of Henry I (i.e., between 1100 and 1135),

The former priory was acquired around 1600 by Thomas Hobson, who converted it to a country house for his son-in-law, Thomas Parke. In the late 18th century, the house was owned by Sir George Downing, the founder of Downing College, Cambridge.

Huttleston (1896–1966) and Henry (1900–1973) Broughton bought the site in 1926 and made improvements to the house. They were the sons of Urban Broughton (1857–1929), who had made a fortune in the mining and railway industries in America. On his death, Huttleston left the abbey to the National Trust

Jaén (Spanish pronunciation: [xaˈen]) is a city in south-central Spain. The name is most likely derived from the Roman name Villa Gaiena (Villa of Gaius), which the Arabs called Jayyān It is the capital of the province of Jaén, and is located in the autonomous community of Andalusia.

SKR 801G touring the West Highlands

The 1965 registered Bedford SB was shipped out to Malta for the then "Maltese Bus" after which they did some tweeking of their own and a further rebuild was designed by Michael Debono.

After some 55 years the bus was retired from service on the island and put up for sale.

A well known UK bank seen some promotional ideas and bought the bus to be used for the 3 month 8,000 miles London Olympics National Relay Torch Tour in 2012 ( as pictured here on it's West Highland leg). Much work was done to built in a Performance Platform onto the roof with a hatch to inside and a photographer/camera platform at the rear.

After the Olympics the bus was sold and then Taken-in-Hand for further restoration which lasted until 2013 when it's first outing was to the South East Bus Festival with the recommendation that any future drivers limit the bus to 45mph 'as a sensible precaution'. The bus continues to be maintained by Purdy Oxford Ltd.

I'm going to make note on this photo the fact that this winter has been the warmest and with the least snowfall of any winter in my memory, or my mothers 80 year recollection, and she remembers everything! :). There wasn't a hint of snow or ice anywhere on the Lake Michigan shoreline.

Flattr this!

In this photo the bulls are nearing the finishing post and they had to turn left to avoid running into the embankment straight ahead.

Looks like this is what is going to happen now. - I mean that the bulls are going straight on to the embankment.

The runner on the left ought to have controlled the bull to make them turn but handling heaving and seething masses of bull power running in the mud is not at all easy.

The people are already scattering and running for cover. Not to miss the vidographer in the lungi who is recording the run.

Adoor in Kerala holds its famous Bull Races every year around the time of Onam. It is a celebration of agrarian existence and is carried on without any grants or aid from the Government. This is a spectacular fiesta of rural Kerala. There are 2-3 other such events that are held in Kerala.

Two racing bulls are hitched together and three men come into action. Two racers with lead ropes on either side of the bulls who try to control the direction and speed if possible and one often obscured by sprays of mud and water, a jockey who rides on a small flat strip of wood.

The bulls race ahead with the men keeping desperately abreast of the thundering hooves. At the end of the racing track there is a 4-6 feet embankment of earth which acts as a protection and a marker for the bulls. The embankment gets totally crowded with onlookers. The bull racers need to turn the bull around and do a 360 degree here but most times that effort fails as the bulls in their racing frenzy would be uncontrollable.

I have no idea on the current status of the bull races. There are enough organisations howling to stop such races but the Supreme Court of India in a judgement a few months ago allowed bull/bullock cart races to go on in Punjab. So chances are that the tradition may still live on.
