I took this because of how much it stood out under the car park lights. Also because of how original it looked with the steelies.

We know this as the Proton Compact, but outside of the UK it was marketed as the Proton 300 series. In its home country of Malaysia, it carried the name 'Satria' (Sanskrit for 'knight').

Protons of any age are extremely rare in Poland, and unsurprisingly this was the only one I saw.

"Kitty Fun Barbie, Marshmallow and me!" I will never, ever forget the infamous Kitty Fun Barbie commercial of my childhood. Like the Generation Girl, Kelly Club Amusement Park, and Jam 'n Glam Tour Bus commercials, this Kitty Fun ad was never forgotten. Even after a five year hiatus from dolls, Colleen and I could still bust out into song. This set came out around the time we got a white cat in real life. While out at work one day, Dad saw that a mama cat had gotten run over by a car. She had a single kitten with her, that was crying by her dead body. Dad (who was a cat lover) felt terrible for the kitten. When he got home that night, he told the family of the poor kitty, and expressed that he should have taken it home. None of us really thought that Dad would be able to find the kitten the next day while driving around for work. But it just so happened that this kitty hadn't strayed far from his mother's body. I'll never forget coming home from school the next afternoon. Mom handed me the dictionary and asked if I could look up the word cat. I was very confused, as an eight year old, needless to say. When I sat on the couch, I suddenly spotted the all white cat with one green eye, and one blue eye. He was the cutest kitten in the whole world! Colleen and I named him Marshmallow because of his color.

When we found out that Barbie also had a cat named Marshmallow, we were ecstatic. Of course, I don't think Barbie's kitty was a stray. This cat looks like a fancy purebred, like the one on the Fancy Feast food containers she was packaged with. I desperately wanted my own Kitty Fun Barbie. Back then, I didn't get brand new Barbies super often. Mostly that's because I was supposed to save my allowance money up for things, and I was TERRIBLE at doing so. But I did get to play with a Kitty Fun Barbie. I picked one out for my friend Lisa as a birthday gift that year. Lisa was always like me and loved animals (although she admittedly wasn't much of a cat person). She must have thought Barbie's cat was cool though, because we opened it that same day. I recall sitting in her bedroom trying out the litter gimmick. These dolls came with colorful, clumping sand. The idea is that you bottle feed Marshmallow water and he pees in the litter box. Then you can scoop the litter clumps out! Honestly it made a horrifying mess. I think that's why I decided not to get myself a Kitty Fun Barbie. Even as a kid, I was extremely fastidious (to the point where Mom and Dad both thought I was very odd). I still wanted Kitty Fun Barbie...just not for $20!!!

As you can see, my inner child was satisfied with not one, but FOUR Kitty Fun Barbies. I have a duplicated African American doll, not shown here (she was actually my first). I found all three of these dolls in a year's time. The first (not shown as I mentioned) I got on opening day 2012 at the flea market. The last, ironically the other AA doll, I got boxed at a consignment shop in early 2013. Clearly Kitty Fun Barbie was an amazing seller. However, if I didn't get a boxed version, I'd still be chasing after Marshmallow. I did get a few of the spare pieces with my blonde lady. She was my cousin's wife's childhood doll. But she had lost her cat years before. Ironically, some of the spare Kitty Fun accessories I have once belonged to my friend Lisa! She ended up giving me and Colleen what she could find of her childhood doll stuff in 2015/2016. Although Barbie herself was missing, there were fragments of her left behind...it's very awesome having bits of the first Kitty Fun doll I played with. Honestly, as a kid it seemed like Kitty Fun Barbie came with a lot more goodies. Now I can recognize that she mostly came with a plethora of useless colorful sand (which I obviously chucked when I got my boxed doll...still traumatized from the mess we made at Lisa's house). Even though there have been dozens of pet themed Barbies produced over the years, this Kitty Fun doll will always be a classic. The commercial, the years of pining, and of course the cat who forever captures the memory of my own kitty named Marshmallow make this Kitty Fun Barbie impossible to beat.

A surprise encounter in Rotterdam: an Asia Towner. Asia Motors was a Korean car producer, acquired by Kia in 1976. After Kia was bought by Hyundai the brand was discontinued. In Europe only the Rocsta SUV and a larger van were sold by Asia in the late 1990's. The Towner was a badge engineered version of the Daihatsu HiJet. This model was first registered in the Netherlands in 2015.

EXPLOSION WRECKS CITY CINEMA

Dale Street Cordoned Off

A MYSTERY explosion ripped through Dale Street through Liverpool's controversial adult cinema, the Gilmore, in Manchester Street, last night, half-an-hour after closing time.

As fire swept the building, firemen took more than two hours to bring the blaze under control.

Dale Street was cordoned off for a while by police when the badly damaged building threatened to collapse.

The city building surveyor ordered it to be demolished.

Today fire experts and detectives were combing through the rubble for clues.

Several nearby buildings suffered smoke and water damage.

Site is still open (above the Mersey Tunnel entrance).
