A wave surges water through a narrow gap between 2 blocks of basalt and into the piscina natural (natural pool) called Belo Abismo (Beautiful Abyss) at Bisciotos on the Ilha Terceira, Azores, This is just one of the natural pools at Ponta Biscoitos that are found in the gaps between basalt blocks and are fed by waves and tides along the seashore. These natural rock pools contain crystal clear water and are natural swimming holes. At Biscoitos, the swimming area has been improved with walkways, steps, bridges, and shelters.
