This set formed 1E25 the 14-52 departure to KX.

I was the driver as far as Edinburgh.

Five days after I took this image 43000 was written off in a low speed collision with Azuma 800109 at Leeds Neville Hill depot on 13-11-19.

This was the final time I got to drive her after thousands of miles doing so on the ECML and internal Scottish routes.

Between two longer periods of rain, I found this gorgeous flowering cherry tree. Since it's been raining for two days, it should have been with the flowering trees for this year.

Sailor Jerry was tagged with the name Norman Collins at birth, but he began to distance himself from normalcy when he was 19 (that's why he became a sailor). He traveled around the world, not only getting his first tattoos, but also gaining exposure to the art and imagery of Southeast Asia. This later became a crucial influence when he opened his first tattoo shop in Honolulu's Chinatown, ground zero for swaggering sailors, drunken soldiers and whoever else wasn't afraid to hang around volatile levels of testosterone.

The Honolulu Tattoo district was designed to accommodate a time in men's lives when they drank heavily, paid for women, and imprinted their biceps with pictures solid and resonant enough to last a lifetime. Back then, Chinatown was the only place on the island where a man could get a tattoo, creating fierce competition among the many tattoo parlors.

Roving sailors weren't looking at the nuances of shading and color, they were seeking pictures worth showing off to their buddies back home. Sailor Jerry built his business with bold designs that artfully expressed the mind set of his clientele. When you look at Sailor Jerry's "flash", it's immediately apparent why he spawned the kind of following that made it necessary to begin printing "The Original Sailor Jerry" on all his business cards. This is man stuff. Filled with the grit, romance and heartbreak that drives some men to do what most would not. There's a tension about port cities filled with men who consider themselves on a mission to have a good time and return with evidence of such. And it's drawn into all of Sailor Jerry's tattoos. Keep your eyes out for his work, not in galleries, but in bars and on the street. If you find yourself strangely captivated by the girl on an old man's arm, we suggest you go ahead and offer to buy the guy a drink of Sailor Jerry Navy Rum. Hopefully, he'll be so impressed with your taste in rum, he won't punch you out and maybe he'll tell you some stories.

Here is some of the tattoo flashes done by Sailor Jerry. To see more Sailor Jerry’s stuff you can go to www.sailorjerry.com Enjoy…

As the Soviets surround the capital of the Großdeutsches Reich, Berlin, the German defenders, Wehrmacht, SS, and civilians alike are making the final preparations for what will become one of the deadliest battles in the history of warfare. Not even the walking wounded are spared from the carnage.

“The war is nearly over. Everyone feels it, I know, but nobody voices it. Being a tank commander in a city is absolute hell, I must say. Everywhere you go there is risk of a sniper perched in an apartment building, ready to blow your brains out. The SS soldiers show nothing but ferocity. Fools, I say. Death is not something they fear, but they fear the possibility of failure. Damn fanatics. They've been rounding up anyone who makes a defeatist comment.”

A view from the footpath running around Carr Mill Dam showing part of the 19 arches viaduct which is situated at the northern end of the dam. The dam was originally a small mill pond which was expanded in the mid 1700's to form a large 0.22 square Km reservoir to feed the Sankey Navigation Canal. It is the largest body of water in Merseyside. (England)

This was my final day driving HST's.

I worked this as the 14-52 departure from Aberdeen to Kx as far as Newcastle.

Edinburgh based LNER driver Paul ( right of shot) accompanied me on the Aberdeen to Edinburgh part of the journey.

He kindly took the images of me on 43307 that I have shared here.

When I departed Edinburgh minutes after I took this, it dawned on me I only had an hour and a half left driving this superb train type. I savoured every minute of the experience.

To date the arrival back at Newcastle has drawn the curtain ( so far!) on me driving two different classes of Locomotive. The first being of class 47's , with 47760 on 22-9-2003 and with 43307 as above. Hopefully I will get back on a Brush Type Four again once things return to normal.

This is #19 in an September photo-a-day project that includes a random challenge each day. Today's challenge... "Underneath"

I'm leaving university to go to Canada in 16 days! I'm really excited but also very very sad because I won't see Aaron for 6 months :(

He's going to America for his second year at university and will leave for America while I'm still in Canada. I won't see him till Christmas (that's if he comes back then). But I'm going to visit him in Colorado over easter and stay with him for a week or so! But that won't be for over a year.

I hope the time goes fast.

* We don't think the Tokyo Olympics will be held anymore.

There is no time for that. That is no longer possible.

We don't care about the Olympics such a small thing anymore.

There is concern about the collapse of the medical system in Japan.

It doesn't matter sports day . . . . . .
