'Conceived by les Ateliers Électromagnétiques de la Seine and produced by the SNCAN aircraft company, the Inter could be summed up as a French equivalent of the Messerschmitt.' – 'Beaulieu Encyclopedia of the Automobile'.
This charming French microcar looks very much like a 'car of the future' from the 1950s; indeed, it is easy to imagine it emerging from a flying saucer in a science fiction movie of the period. The Inter 'Auto Scooter' was built at SNCAN's factory near Lyon and first shown to the public at the Salon de l'Auto in 1953. Its aviation connections are obvious - it looks just like the cockpit and nose section of a contemporary light aircraft - while the tilting canopy was another feature it shared with the German Messerschmitt, as was the tandem seating arrangement for the two occupants. Motive power was supplied by a 175cc Ydral single-cylinder two-stroke engine, which drove the rear wheel via a three-speeds-plus-reverse gearbox and chain final drive. Unusually, the Inter's two front wheels could be folded up to reduce the body's width of 135cm by around 45cm, making it possible to store the vehicle in one's shed. Only some 300 Inters were manufactured from 1954 to 1956, with a few others assembled from parts up to 1958. It is estimated that around 38 cars remain today in collections and museums worldwide, with only a few among them still in running order.
This particular Inter was discovered in a barn a few years ago, in running order and original. The vehicle was then completely restored by Auto Classic Restauration in Normandy, and photographs and invoices relating to the restoration may be found in the history file. Guaranteed to turn heads at any motoring event, this quite delightful Inter microcar is one of the best of the surviving examples.

Controlled with scooter style handlebars, the original Ape was designed to sit one, but can accommodate a passenger (with a tight fit) in its cab. A door on each side is provided, making it quicker to get out of the vehicle when making deliveries to different sides of the road. Performance is suited to the job of light delivery, with good torque for hills but a low top speed, which is irrelevant in the urban settings for it was designed. Outside of towns Apes are customarily driven as close as possible to the curb to allow traffic to pass.

The BSA Bantam was introduced as a 125cc two stroke in 1948, with a production run spanning until 1971. With a total estimated production run between 250,000 - 500,000 The Bantam was based on the DKW RT 125, a design that was received as war reparations, with the Bantam as a mirror image so the gearchange was on the right side as with other British motorcycles of the period. The Bantam was constantly being developed with at least nine different itineration some of which could be further subdivided. Its engine size remained at 125cc until 1954 growing to 150cc for the D3 of 1954-57, after which it became a 175cc machine remaining so until the end of production.
The D14/4 Bushman was an off road version available 1968-69 then updated for 1969-71 as the B175 Bushman. Developed chiefly for export to Africa and Australia but 300 were sold in the UK. All UK Bushman models carry the engine number prefix BB. Its predecessor was the stripped down Bronk Buck but the Bushman models proper were fully equipped with lights, high level exhaust systems, side strands and sported dual seats apart from the commercial farming focused Pastoral model with its single saddle and carrier rack.

Montesa Badge
Montesa was formed in 1944 by Pedro Permanyer and Francisco Xavier Paco Bultó in Barcelona, producing a lightweight 95cc two stroke machine. As a successor Bulto designed a new 125cc bike, which found early sporting success as a trials bike. There followed a road rad version These bikes featured six-speed, bolt on gearboxes, in semi-unit construction, with all gears running on needle-roller bearings which finished 2nd,3rd and 4th in the 1956 125cc ultra lightweight race at the Isle of Man TT. The most successful Montesa street bike of the '50s was the Brio 80, of which more than 12,000 were produced. The success of the Brio and the other models, led to the opening of a new and larger factory.
With the improving Spanish economy of the 1960's and 70's came a new 175cc and This engine would form the basis of the company's future trials and motocross machines.
Larger bikes appeared in the 1960's and the companies sporting tally increased.
But by 1981 Spain was experiencing economic and industrial unrest and the market was shrinking. A Government loan from shares sold to Honda who were looking for a manufacturing base for their commuter bikes, helped production to continue. In 1985 another large investment from Honda and company reorganisation followed and the following year Honda completed the buyout. Honda now had an 85% holding and spent another $5 million on modifying and updating the factory. With Montesa being reduced to just one model the Cota which continued to be updated and entered in Trials, taking Dougie Lampkin to a number of World Titles.

Motobecane was founded in 1922 Charles Benoit and Abel Bardin with their first motorcycle, a 175cc, launched in 1923. By the 1930s Motobecane was producing a best-selling range of motorcycles and would go on to become France's largest motorcycle manufacturer. By 1933 they had produced the companies first four stroke machine, a 250cc, moving up to 500 and 750 cc in line four cylinder machines. During this period, the firm entered road racing competitions and won the Bol d'or endurance race. After the Second World War they produced the single-cylinder D45 motorbike that filled a need for cheap transportation. Like many European motorcycle manufacturers, the 1960s proved difficult for Motobécane with the arrival of cheap efficient Japanese machines and the increasing popularity of motorcars. They continued to produce two-cylinder 125cc motorcycles throughout the 1970s along with a decreasing number of two-stroke, three-cylinder 350cc and 500cc bikes. For a time in the late 1970s and early 1980s, the company competed in Grand Prix motorcycle racing claiming several victories in the 125cc class
The company is also famed for the manufacture of bicycles, very light weight mountain bicycles, and in 1973 Luis Ocaña won Tour de France on Motobecane branded bike
Motobécane introduced a moped, the Mobylette, in 1949; over the next 48 years, Motobécane manufactured 14 million Mobylettes. In India the same model was manufactured under licence by Mopeds India Ltd under the name Suvega. In the UK Raleigh manufactured Mobylettes under licence from Motobecane as the "RM" series from 1960 until 1971. In the late 1960s these "Raleigh" mopeds accounted for 38% of UK moped sales. American retailer Montgomery Ward imported Motobecane mopeds and sold them via their catalog under the Riverside captive import brand.
In 1981, the original Motobécane filed for bankruptcy and was purchased by Yamaha and reformed in 1984 as MBK After being acquired by Yamaha, MBK continued producing mopeds, becoming a force in French moped racing.

Most Apes are produced in India by Piaggio India, and a similar vehicle is manufactured by Bajaj Auto and its most common usage is as an autorickshaw. On October 16, 2013, Piaggio announced that the production of Ape would be completely shut down in Italy and entirely moved to India.
Nowadays two model ranges are offered: the "Ape 50" with a 49.8 cc petrol engine and the larger engined Ape TM which can come with a 218cc petrol or 422cc diesel engine. The Ape 50 has a payload of between 175 and 205kg.
This Ape has been converted to a Coffee Cart, which come fully equippes for business.

'Conceived by les Ateliers Électromagnétiques de la Seine and produced by the SNCAN aircraft company, the Inter could be summed up as a French equivalent of the Messerschmitt.' – 'Beaulieu Encyclopedia of the Automobile'.
This charming French microcar looks very much like a 'car of the future' from the 1950s; indeed, it is easy to imagine it emerging from a flying saucer in a science fiction movie of the period. The Inter 'Auto Scooter' was built at SNCAN's factory near Lyon and first shown to the public at the Salon de l'Auto in 1953. Its aviation connections are obvious - it looks just like the cockpit and nose section of a contemporary light aircraft - while the tilting canopy was another feature it shared with the German Messerschmitt, as was the tandem seating arrangement for the two occupants. Motive power was supplied by a 175cc Ydral single-cylinder two-stroke engine, which drove the rear wheel via a three-speeds-plus-reverse gearbox and chain final drive. Unusually, the Inter's two front wheels could be folded up to reduce the body's width of 135cm by around 45cm, making it possible to store the vehicle in one's shed. Only some 300 Inters were manufactured from 1954 to 1956, with a few others assembled from parts up to 1958. It is estimated that around 38 cars remain today in collections and museums worldwide, with only a few among them still in running order.
This particular Inter was discovered in a barn a few years ago, in running order and original. The vehicle was then completely restored by Auto Classic Restauration in Normandy, and photographs and invoices relating to the restoration may be found in the history file. Guaranteed to turn heads at any motoring event, this quite delightful Inter microcar is one of the best of the surviving examples.

A three wheeled bubble car designed by aircraft engineer Fritz Fend, based on the Fend Flitzer invalid carriage. Originally introduced a 175cc with a similar design and different bodywork.
The narrow body and low frontal area, was achieved with tandem seating, allowing the body to taper at the rear like an aircraft fuselage..
The TG500 Tiger was the top of the range, a super bubble car with an extra rear wheeland hydraulic brakes. The air cooled Fitchtel and Sachs twin engine produces 20bhp and near eneough 75mph top speed, four speed but no syncromesh.

Penton was a brand of off-road use motorcycle introduced in 1968 by John Penton, a noted enduro rider on the dirt bike competition circuit.[1]
Penton approached the KTM company, who at the time built bicycles and mopeds, to build a light-weight off-road motorcycle.[1] The first Penton motorcycles were modified small bore motorcycles with a Sachs engine with improved suspension and details.[2] The early motorcycles made their mark in International Six Days Trials (now called the International Six Days Enduro) competitions with riders such as future Motorcycle Hall of Fame members Billy Uhl and Carl Cranke. The most popular size was the 125cc (Six Day), but they were also made in 100cc (also Berkshire) and later, in 175cc (Jackpiner, in 1972), 250cc (Hare Scrambler, in 1973), and 400cc (Mint, in 1974). Later models utilized KTM engines, gas forks, lay down shocks, fiberglass gas tanks, plastic fenders and frames of high grade chrome-moly steel.
Other, less-common models included the Mudlark observed trials motorcycle (made by Wassell in England), the Cafe MX (a dual purpose version of the Mudlark), the Hiro 125 (the Six Day with an Italian motor), the Woodsman (an enduro version of the Mudlark) and the K-R (Kenny Roberts)shorttrack racer.[2]

Messerschmidt were temporarily banned from building aircraft following World War II and had turned to producing other products, in 1952 they were approached by Fritz Fend with a view to manufacturing a small motor model was the KR175 launched in 1952 powered by a 175cc engine. based on his Fend Flitzer invalid carriage. In 1956, around a year after West Germany joined NATO, Messerschmitt was allowed to manufacture aircraft again and lost interest in Fend's microcars. Messerschmitt sold the Regensburg works to Fend who, with brake and hub supplier Valentin Knott, formed Fahrzeug- und Maschinenbau GmbH Regensburg (FMR) to continue production of the KR200 but as the German and other economies began to recover sales of the bubble car derivatives decline and Messerchmidt car production ceased

This was the last year in which the Bantam was built, BSA was going under, along with all the other British motorcycling firms due to the Japenese invasion of the '60s. The Japenese bikes offered less engine life, slower top speeds, less fuel efficiency. They included indicators and every mod con that was going, and they were most importantly cheaper. This was probably the single most factor that caused the revolution, the change in attitudes towards manufacturing. The British bikes were built to last forever, the Japenese bikes were not. From a classic owners point of view in latter days however, that is a godsend. The Bantam is easy to work on, most parts are able to be simply replaced by the lay-man, requiring little specialist skill save for wheel building and cylinder boring. Apart from being the most numerous of classic motorcycles, the long lifetime of the model (23 years), its simplicity and general good looks make it the epitomy of the classic British motorcycle.

Launched in 1967 the Bantam Sports used the Bantam D10A engine, an air cooled 175cc 2-stroke with a 4-speed gearbox. Compared to the previous D7 engine the compression ratio was increased from 7.4 to 8.65, and a larger concentric carburetter and bigger pancake style air filter incresed power to 10 hp.

In addition to the massive volume of coconut husks that fully span the entire width of the lane and some, there are three adult men sitting inside this little pickup truck, which is really a 1960s Italian Vespa or Lambretta motor scooter with a 175cc 2-stroke engine that has been converted into a 3-wheeler. Vehicles like this are all over India, used as taxis and trucks.
As idiotic and dangerous as this is, it is still a sign of progress. In the old days, they would have driven an under-nourished ox to its death hauling this merchandise over distances of as much as 50 km.

Unfortunately, the programmed exposure on my Nikon D300 did a poor job by selecting low shutter speeds (1/40 sec. for the top picture, 1/50 sec. for the bottom one), so the pictures are not sharp. I had only seconds to take these shots, so I didn't have the time to change my settings. I tried sharpening the top picture a bit, and this is as good as it gets. The bottom picture is straight from the camera.
